We propose a beam steering type optical switch employing a phase shifter. It consists of collimating waveguide mirrors, an arrayed-waveguide which has deep trenches incorporating polymer materials, and input/output waveguides. The incident light is guided to the front mirror, where it is then collimated, and input to the arrayed waveguide. The number of trenches filled with polymer linearly increases in order. The refractive index of the polymer can be controlled with temperature, and the propagation direction of the output light from the arrayed waveguide can also be controlled. A switch with 15 waveguides in the array has been fabricated. The chip size is about 2:5 × 9:0 mm2, the insertion loss is 10 dB, and the extinction ratio is about 10–13 dB.  相似文献

Abstract

Two types of 4 × 4 plastic optical fiber star couplers incorporated with a polymer waveguide as the optical power distributor are proposed, and their high performances are demonstrated. The characteristics of the proposed star coupler are investigated based on ray optics, and its power distribution performance is evaluated in terms of the flatness of the coupling ratio and the amount of the excess loss. Under the best conditions, the flatness of the coupling ratio and the excess loss of the fabricated device have been obtained as 2.0 dB and 2.5 dB, respectively.  相似文献

Integrated waveguide turning mirrors (IWTM) based on total internal reflection are investigated theoretically and experimentally. The effects of the mirror surface displacement, the rotation, and the roughness are studied. The loss due to the various spectral components of the roughness is comprehensively analysed. A wide waveguide turning mirror is more influenced by the low-frequency component, which is the major component of the actually fabricated mirror surface, resulting in high radiation loss of an IWTM with long taper, contrary to expectation. The excess radiation loss is about 0.8 dB/mirror and 1.0 dB/mirror for quasi-TE and quasi-TM modes, respectively, in the optimum design, which could be reduced by further minimizing the displacement error of the mirror position. We also designed and fabricated a low-loss beam splitter with modal interference region, the measured excess losses being about 1.2 dB and 1.8 dB for quasi-TE and quasi-TM modes, respectively, which are believed to be the lowest in this kind of beam splitter.  相似文献

设计和制作了基于SOI的通道转换型多模干涉耦合器。用二维BPM方法分析了耦合器的性能与多模波导宽度和长度的依赖关系.制作出的耦合器能实现良好的通道转换,器件的功率转换比为73,附加损耗为2.2 dB.提高器件制作的精度将能进一步改善耦合器的性能.  相似文献

Mismatched optical couplers with variable widths of waveguide tapered by Hamming function are numerically investigated in the demand of short-length, broadband, and low crosstalk. We used global search algorithm and beam propagation method to seek optimal structure parameters of coupling waveguide. The coupler length is 3.6 mm within the C+L-band (1.53-1.61 μm) for variable widths of waveguide at crosstalk level of −35 dB. Comparison with constant width of waveguide, the constant width of waveguide has a coupler length of 4.4 mm and can only achieve −20 dB of crosstalk within the C-band (1.53-1.565 μm). Obviously, the waveguide with variable widths has the advantage over constant width for the demand of short-length, bandwidth, and low-crosstalk.  相似文献

波导耦合器是组成光纤传感系统和光纤通信系统光收发组件及模块的重要元器件,是实现光收发模块一体化光电集成的基础。给出了一种用光纤陀螺系统的X型四端口波导耦合器的工作原理,采用有效折射率法和BPM(Beam propagation method)法建立了耦合器的数学模型,计算并分析了耦合器尺寸在尽可能小的情况下和在满足单模传输的条件下耦合器的耦合系数、有效耦合长度、分光比以及回波损耗等参数之间的关系,并对其关键技术进行了系统的研究。仿真结果表明,所设计的波导耦合器在低损耗情况下分光比可达到50%∶50%,耦合器全长为33.5mm,输入输出波导间距为410μm,芯层截面积为6μm×6μm。  相似文献

A mismatched optical coupler with waveguide weighted by the Blackman function is numerically investigated in the demand of short length, C+L-band, and low crosstalk. Utilizing the full factorial design, the structure parameters of coupling waveguide are obtained by beam propagation method. In the condition of crosstalk of −35 dB, the mismatched optical coupler with proper selected waveguide structure parameters is found to have a coupling length of 3.60 mm in the transmission wavelength ranges of C+L-band (1.53-1.61 μm). Obviously, the selection and design of waveguide structure are very important to satisfy the qualities of a mismatched optical coupler for the demand of short length, broad bandwidth, and low crosstalk.  相似文献

提出并设计了一种基于电光聚合物的锥形波导,可用于单模光纤与电光聚合物波导器件之间的连接.锥形波导中采用了宽度锥形和折射率锥形结构.宽度锥形采用劈形形状,通过宽度和折射率的缓慢变化实现模场转换.劈形形状的宽度锥形具有较小的损耗且易于制作,折射率锥形可采用灰度掩膜光刻技术制作.研究了锥形波导的传输损耗与锥形波导的长度、波导宽度和厚度、材料吸收损耗等参数的关系及其优化,分析了锥形波导中的功率传输、模场分布与模式转换效率.结果显示锥形波导的传输损耗小于0.37 dB,光纤-波导-光纤的连接损耗优于1.62 dB,对插入损耗的改善达到8.78 dB,模场转换效率达到了83.7%.  相似文献

The theoretical performance of a new polarisation splitter/combiner based on a directional coupler is studied using vectorial mode analysis. The device includes an efficient antiresonant mirror transparent to TM polarisation and opaque to TE polarisation. Simulations indicate a high level of TM light can be transferred from the input waveguide into the non-excited guide for coupling lengths shorter than 1 mm. In addition, coupling efficiency of 80% and extinction ratios close to 30 dB have been obtained in a not optimised device.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Integrated photonics enables the miniaturization of bulk optical components for biosensing applications such as optical coherence tomography (OCT) and is therefore promising for future lab-on-chip solutions. Here, we report the design and simulation of a compact low loss broadband beam splitter with arbitrary coupling ratios on silicon nitride platform for OCT systems. The reported coupler uses asymmetric waveguide-based phase control section for 10:90, 20:80, 30:70, 40:60, and 50:50 splitting ratios and is broadband over 100 nm with the central wavelength of 850 nm. The couplers are realized for transverse electric, transverse magnetic, and fully vectorial modes, and maximum excess loss for all mode types is reported to be less than 0.19 dB. The design tolerance of waveguide width and thickness of the designed coupler is further calculated and is within fabrication limit.  相似文献

借助波导转角镜结构,利用古斯-汉欣空间位移和热光效应折射率调制的有效组合,提出了波导反射模式数字式热光开关结构。在给定入射角的条件下优化了空间古斯-汉欣位移,在具有古斯-汉欣效应的本征态下,反射光束出现了较大的跳跃。在1.0μm厚硅膜的绝缘体上硅平台上,单模输入波导和多模干涉波导结构之间的导模本征态匹配,验证了1×3数字式光开关功能。实验中,器件结构引起的光损耗为0.3 dB,开关功率为130~150 mW,开关时间约为50μs,相邻输出端之间隔离度为15 dB。与马赫-曾德尔干涉仪型的2×2热光开关和等离子体效应热光开关的最新结果进行比较证明了该数字式热光开关的先进性。  相似文献

报道锗硅合金在λ=1.3μm的脊形单模光波导的设计,工艺及测量结果。这种光波导的传播损耗已达0.7dB/cm。脊形的高4-8μm,宽8-12μm,均和单模光纤芯径相当,此外,其数值孔径在光波导的输入,输出端均能和单模光纤匹配,它已满足硅光集成对光波导的要求。文中最后报道了用这种锗硅合金光波导试制Y分支器,并观察到二支分路输出的单模光斑。  相似文献

研究了用于光互连的聚硅氧烷多模光波导直接弯曲时弯曲损耗与圆弧曲率半径的关系。用Marcuse的直波导近似法理论计算了其弯曲损耗,理论计算表明弯曲损耗随模阶数的增加而变大,随半径的减少而变大;光在波导中传输时,总弯曲损耗出现阶跃式变化,并且曲率半径大于4 mm时,波导的弯曲损耗小于1dB/cm。用BeamPROP仿真软件仿真了5、10、20mm三种曲率半径下的传输光场情况。利用数字化散射法测量了其弯曲损耗,实验结果显示曲率半径在5~6mm时弯曲损耗值在0.55~0.8dB/cm之间,考虑所制备的聚硅氧烷直波导固有的传输损耗,实验值与理论值基本相符。  相似文献

本文报道了GaAs非对称X结波导耦合器的工作原理。该器件制作在n^-/n^+GaAs外延材料上。文中采用有效折射率法分析了这个耦合器的分离角、波导脊高及其两个非对称波导传播常数差之间的关系。器件在λ=1.15μm下测量,得到了小于-2.9dB的分光性能和小于-20dB的串音比。  相似文献

The optical properties of novel polymer poly(phthalazinone ether sulfone ketone, PPESK) film waveguide are studied by prism coupler. The optical properties of PPESK-8020, including refractive index, birefringence, thermo-optical coefficient and optical loss, are demonstrated. This kind of material has the advantages of low optical loss (less than 0.24 dB/cm at 1310 nm and 0.52 dB/cm at 1550 nm) and high thermal stability (1% weight loss temperature: 488 ℃). Due to these excellent properties, it may have great potential in optical waveguide applications.  相似文献

在密集波分复用系统中,多波长DFB激光器阵列与多模干涉耦合器集成光源器件具有重要的应用前景.为了研制多波长集成光源中的宽带可用低损耗光耦合器,利用三维有限差分光束传播法仿真设计了一种具有强限制作用的InP/InGaAsP材料的多模干涉型耦合器.输入/输出端波导均采用楔形结构以降低多模干涉型耦合器的插入损耗,提高各个输出端口的出光平衡度.根据仿真结果,结合波导芯层为采用外延生长设备,采用反应离子刻蚀工艺制作了1×乘4多模干涉型耦合器.利用自动对准波导耦合测试系统对所制作器件的插入损耗和出光平衡度进行测量.测试结果表明,该器件在1 550 nm波长附近的40 nm带宽范围内获得了约2.6 dB的通带平坦度,在1 550 nm通信波长处,器件的插入损耗低于10 dB.  相似文献
