In a series of letters to D. Stanton, R.W. Gosper presented many strange evaluations of hypergeometric series. Recently, we rediscovered one of the strange hypergeometric identities appearing in (Gosper: A letter to D. Stanton, XEROX Palo Alto Research Center, 1977). Using a general q-summation formula, we derive a generating function for the q-Hahn polynomials, which is used to give a complete proof of the orthogonality relation for the continuous q-Hahn polynomials. A new proof of the orthogonality relation for the big q-Jacobi polynomials is also given. A simple evaluation of the Nassrallah–Rahman integral is derived by using this summation formula. A new q-beta integral formula is established, which includes the Nassrallah–Rahman integral as a special case. The q-summation formula also allows us to recover several strange q-series identities.  相似文献

We investigate strange nonchaotic self-oscillations in a dissipative system consisting of three mechanical rotators driven by a constant torque applied to one of them. The external driving is nonoscillatory; the incommensurable frequency ratio in vibrational-rotational dynamics arises due to an irrational ratio of diameters of the rotating elements involved. It is shown that, when losing stable equilibrium, the system can demonstrate two- or three-frequency quasi-periodic, chaotic and strange nonchaotic self-oscillations. The conclusions of the work are confirmed by numerical calculations of Lyapunov exponents, fractal dimensions, spectral analysis, and by special methods of detection of a strange nonchaotic attractor (SNA): phase sensitivity and analysis using rational approximation for the frequency ratio. In particular, SNA possesses a zero value of the largest Lyapunov exponent (and negative values of the other exponents), a capacitive dimension close to 2 and a singular continuous power spectrum. In general, the results of this work shed a new light on the occurrence of strange nonchaotic dynamics.  相似文献

In the first part of this work, the local singularity of non-smooth dynamical systems was discussed and the criteria for the grazing bifurcation were presented mathematically. In this part, the fragmentation mechanism of strange attractors in non-smooth dynamical systems is investigated. The periodic motion transition is completed through grazing. The concepts for the initial and final grazing, switching manifolds are introduced for six basic mappings. The fragmentation of strange attractors in non-smooth dynamical systems is described mathematically. The fragmentation mechanism of the strange attractor for such a non-smooth dynamical system is qualitatively discussed. Such a fragmentation of the strange attractor is illustrated numerically. The criteria and topological structures for the fragmentation of the strange attractor need to be further developed as in hyperbolic strange attractors. The fragmentation of the strange attractors extensively exists in non-smooth dynamical systems, which will help us better understand chaotic motions in non-smooth dynamical systems.  相似文献

The singularities of the stratification of the space of the Hermitian matrices according to the multiplicities of the eigenvalues are described as an informal complexification of the previous study of the space of the real symmetric matrices. The degeneration of the spectral sequence associated to this stratification provides some strange combinatorial identities. The eigenvector bundles over the manifold of the Hermitian matrices with simple spectra are equiped with the natural connections, describing also the adiabatic approximation to the oscillations of the linear systems defined by the slowly varying skew Hermitian matrices. The curvature of this connection is singular at the codimension 3 variety of the Hermitian matrices having multiple eigenvalues. The resulting jumps of the integrals of the curvature form at the crossings of this variety by the moving surface of integration are responsible for the quantum Hall effect.This article is an expanded version of a lecture read 25 March, 1994, at the conference on Real Algebraic Geometry at the Institut Henry Poincaré, Paris  相似文献
