Structure and photoluminescence of Zn(II) and Сd(II) complexes with chiral bis-pyridine containing fragments of natural (–)-α-pinene

Complexes ZnLCl₂ (I) and [CdLCl₂] _n (IV), where L is chiral bis-pyridine containing fragments of natural monoterpenoide (–)-α-pinene are synthesized. Single crystals of [ZnLCl₂]·CH₂Cl₂ (II), [ZnLCl₂]·i-PrOH (III), and IV compounds are grown. The crystal structures of II and III are composed of mononuclear ZnLCl₂ complex molecules and solvate CH₂Cl₂ and i-PrOH molecules; the coordination polyhedron of the zinc atom Cl₂N₂ is a distorted tetrahedron. According to the single crystal XRD data, complex IV is a 1D coordination polymer; the coordination core CdN₂Cl₄ is a distorted octahedron and Cl atoms are bridging ligands. In the structures of II, III, and IV the L molecule functions as a bidentate chelate ligand. In the solid phase, complexes I and IV exhibit photoluminescence in the visible range (λ_max 505 nm and 460 nm respectively). The band intensity in the photoluminescence spectra of I and IV complexes considerably exceeds the band intensity in the spectrum of free L.     

Viscoelasticity: Fractal parameters studied on mammalian erythrocytes under shear stress

In this work, experimental determinations are carried out using a home-made device called an erythrodeformeter, which has been developed and constructed for rheological measurements on red blood cells subjected to definite fluid shear stress. A numerical method formulated on the basis of the fractal approximation for ordinary and fractionary Brownian motion¹ is proposed to evaluate the viscoelastic behavior of mammalian erythrocyte membranes. The diffraction pattern, which is circular when the mammalian erythrocyte membranes are at rest, becomes elliptical when the cells undergo shear stress. Photometric readings of light intensity variation along the major axis of the elliptical diffraction pattern are recorded during the creep and recovery process. These data series are used to calculate, fractal rheological parameters of self-affine Brownian motion on the erythrocytes, averaged over several millions of cells. Three different parameters over the time dependent process could be obtained, which are: correlation coefficient <C(t)>, correlation integral, andK ₂-entropy, and very different results were obtained.     

Crystal structure and thermal properties of [Pt(NH3)5Cl][ReCl6]Cl·H2O

The crystal structure of double complex salt [Pt(NH₃)₅Cl][ReCl₆]Cl·H₂O is determined. Crystallographic characteristics are: a = 23.9502(4) Å, b = 7.5963(1) Å, c = 8.9016(2) Å, V = 1619.49(5) ų, space group Pnma, Z = 4, d _x = 3.150 g/cm³. The packing of structural fragments is studied. It is shown that on heating the salt in a helium atmosphere up to 840 °C a mixture of two solid solutions of fcc Pt_0.90Re_0.10 and hcp Pt_0.25Re_0.75 forms.

Complexes of PdCl2 with chiral oximes of α-(o-anisidino)caranone and α-(o-anisidino)pinanone: synthesis and crystal structures

3-(2-Methoxyphenylamino)caran-4-one and 2-(2-methoxyphenylamino)pinan-3-one E-oximes obtained from appropriate natural terpenes were transformed into 1: 1 complexes with PdCl₂. The structures of the complexes were examined by X-ray diffraction.     

Features of the manufacture of deep X-ray lithography masks in the siberian synchrotron and terahertz radiation center

The development of a low-cost technology to manufacture high-contrast X-ray LIGA masks is topical because this technology is important for various applied research on microstructured products with minimum element sizes of 10–50 μm, such as microfluid analytical systems, selective waveguide mesh-based elements to control terahertz (THz) radiation, microshaped optical elements for the visible range, etc. Technological particularities of mask manufacture are considered. A method to check the quality of masks is presented. Test microproducts manufactured using the produced deep X-ray lithography masks are demonstrated.
