A simple method to generate a hollow laser beam by multimode fiber is reported.A dark hollow laser beam is generated from a multimode fiber and the dependence of the output beam profile on the incident angle of laser beam is analyzed.The results show that this hollow laser beam can be used to trap and guide cold atoms.  相似文献

We propose a new method to generate a focused hollow laser beam by using an azimuthally distributed 2π-phase plate and a convergent thin lens,and calculate the intensity distribution of the focused hollow beam in free propagation space.The relationship between the waist w0 of the incident collimated Gaussian beam and the dark spot size of the focused hollow beam at the focal point,and the relationship between the focal lenght f of the thin lens and the dark spot size are studied respectively.The optical potential of the blue-detuned focused hollow beam for^85 Rb atoms is calculated.Our study shows that when the larger waist w of the incident Gaussian beam and the shorter focal length f of the lens are chosen,we can obtain an extremely small dark spot size of the focused hollow beam,which can be used to form an atomic lens with a resolution of sereval angstroms.  相似文献

Optical guiding of ^Rb atoms in a magneto-optical trap (MOT) by a blue-detuned horizontal hollow laser beam is demonstrated experimentally. The guiding efficiency and the velocity distribution of the guided atoms are found to have strong dependence on the detuning of the guiding laser. In particular, the optimum guiding occurs when the blue detuning of the hollow laser beam is approximately equal to the hyperfine structure splitting of the ^85Rb ground states, in good agreement with the theoretical analysis based on a three-level model.  相似文献

In this letter, the axial distribution of Gaussian beam limited by a hard-edged aperture is studied. We theoretically analyze the axial diffraction of Gaussian beam limited by a hard-edged aperture, and give the simpler formulas of the axial diffraction intensities of Gaussian beam in Fresnel diffraction field and Fraun-hofer diffraction field. The corresponding numerical calculation of axial diffraction intensity distribution of Gaussian beam with different wave waist is provided and the evolution of the diffraction distribution with the wave waist of Gaussian beam is explained. As the especial cases of the truncated Gaussian beam, the Gaussian beam in free space and the parallel light limited by the aperture are discussed too, and the system parameters of the truncated Gaussian beam which can cause it to equal to these cases are given. The theoretical results conform to the numerical analysis.  相似文献

We report a simple Nd:YAG laser that emits radially polarized beam with helical wavefront. The laser cavity consists of a piece of laser crystal and a plane output coupler, and there is no additional polarization component inside it. The pump light is converted into annular profile through de-focal coupling into a multi-mode fiber. For the continuous-wave(CW) operation, the laser emits radially polarized vortex beam, and it is observed that the helical wavefront of the laser beam is switched from right handedness to left handedness when the output coupler is tilted slightly. For the Q-switched operation under the insertion of a Cr4t:YAG saturable absorber inside the cavity, we obtain radially polarized outputs with left-handedness helical wavefront. By tilting the laser crystal slightly, the laser output switches to azimuthal polarization at pump power larger than 4.5 W and left-handedness helical wavefront of laser beam is preserved.  相似文献

Coiling technique is used to control the transverse mode of a large-mode-area(LMA)multimode fiber laser.By winding the fiber to a coil with different radius,high-order modes of a multimode fiber laser are suppressed one by one and finally 15.4-W single-transverse-mode output is achieved when the coil radius is 20 mm.It is found that as the coil radius decreases,the beam quality of a multimode fiber laser gets better but the slope efficiency drops for higher-order modes are discriminated.During the experiment,as the coil radius of multimode fiber changes,output characteristic of the laser has been measured.Meanwhile, the mode loss of different modes is calculated theoretically.It is proved that the experimental measured results fit well with the theoretically calculated results.  相似文献

The significant variation of the laser output can be caused by feedback of a small part of laser beam, which is reflected or backscattered by a target at a long distance from laser source, into the laser cavity. This paper describes and analyzes theoretically and experimentally the influence of atmospheric turbulence on interference caused by laser feedback. The influence depends upon both the energy of feedback into the laser cavity and the strength of turbulence over a laser propagation path in the atmosphere. In the case of stronger energy of feedback and weak turbulence variance of fluctuation of the laser output can be enhanced by hundreds to thousands times. From our measurements and theoretical analysis it shows that these significant enhancements can result from the change of laser-cavity-modes which can be stimulated simultaneously and from beat oscillations between a variety of frequencies of laser modes. An asymmetric laser heterostructure is developed to improve the beam properties of GaSb-based diode lasers with no degradation in laser parameters.Employing the semivectorial finite difference method,the dependences of beam divergence and optical confinement factor on waveguide width and refractive index step are investigated theoretically.After carefully design,a particular asymmetric laser structure is proposed.Its beam divergence in the fast axis is reduced from 61° to 34° compared with that of the broad-waveguide structure.The optical confinement factor is approximately equal to 0.0362 and comparable to that of the conventional broad-waveguide structure.  相似文献

The twisted Laguerre-Gaussian beam was generated by transforming of Hermite-Gaussian beams through an optical system consisting of three rotated cylindrical lenses. The intensity distribution and phase structure of the twisted hollow beam were theoretically analyzed by using Collins diffraction integral. By utilizing the method of mode decomposition, the theory of transformation was analyzed. In the experiment, micro particles were trapped and rotated by this twisted beam.  相似文献

<正>The square soft-edge diaphragm with round angle is designed by Matlab,and is sent to a liquid crystal spatial light modulator by the computer.In order to obtain precompensation for the following laser system, local diaphragm transmission can be adjusted by feedback signals of surface-channel charge-coupled device (SCCD).This method can reduce the diffraction effect and realize no modulation,high stability,high homogeneity,and large scale laser beam.Several parameters of soft-edge diaphragms which affect the laser beam quality are studied systematically,and the optimized values are obtained.The method can avoid the serious modulation of hard edges and provide soft-edge diaphragms of different shapes in a fast and convenient way for the large scale laser beam system.  相似文献
