Necessary and sufficient conditions for the product of two block Toeplitz matrices to be block Toeplitz are obtained. In the special case of two Toeplitz matrices, the conditions simplify considerably and, when combined with known necessary and sufficient conditions for a nonsingular Toeplitz matrix to have a Toeplitz inverse, provide a simple characterization of the additional matrix structure required by a subclass of Toeplitz matrices in order for it to be closed with respect to both inversion and multiplication. 相似文献

We introduce block maps for subfactors and study their dynamic systems. We prove that the limit points of the dynamic system are positive multiples of biprojections and zero. For the Z_2 case, the asymptotic phenomenon of the block map coincides with that of the 2 D Ising model. The study of block maps requires a further development of our recent work on the Fourier analysis of subfactors. We generalize the notion of sum set estimates in additive combinatorics for subfactors and prove the exact inverse sum set theorem. Using this new method, we characterize the extremal pairs of Young's inequality for subfactors, as well as the extremal operators of the Hausdorff-Young inequality. 相似文献

A block 2 × 2 Hermitian positive-definite (h.p.d.) matrix is called equilibrated if its diagonal blocks coincide with the corresponding blocks of its inverse. It is demonstrated that any block 2 × 2 h.p.d. matrix is block diagonally similar to an equilibrated matrix, and any equilibrated matrix is optimally conditioned. The block number of a permutation is the maximum number of components in its expression as a direct sum. We show that, for 321-avoiding permutations, the set of left-to-right maxima has the same distribution when the block number is assumed to be k, as when the last descent of the inverse is assumed to be at position \(n - k\). This result is analogous to the Foata–Schützenberger equidistribution theorem, and implies that the quasi-symmetric generating function of the descent set over 321-avoiding permutations with a prescribed number of blocks is Schur-positive. 相似文献
