Viability for a class of semilinear differential equations of retarded type

Let X be a Banach space, A ： D（A） X → X the generator of a compact C0- semigroup S（t） ： X → X, t ≥ 0, D a locally closed subset in X, and f ： （a, b） × X →X a function of Caratheodory type. The main result of this paper is that a necessary and sufficient condition in order to make D a viable domain of the semilinear differential equation of retarded type u＇（t） = Au（t） ＋ f（t, u（t - q））, t ∈ [to, to ＋ T], with initial condition uto = φ ∈C（[-q, 0]; X）, is the tangency condition lim infh10 h^-1d（S（h）v（O）＋hf（t, v（-q））; D） = 0 for almost every t ∈ （a, b） and every v ∈ C（[-q, 0]; X） with v（0）, v（-q）∈ D.     

Asymptotically Self-Similar Global Solutions for a Higher-Order Semilinear Parabolic System

In this paper, we study the higher-order semilinear parabolic system{ut＋（-△）^mu=a｜v｜^p-1v,（t,x）∈R^1＋×R^N,vt＋（-△）^mv=b｜u｜^q-1u,（t,x）∈R^1＋×R^N,u（0,x）=φ（x）,v（0,x）=ψ（x）,x∈R^N, where m, p,q 〉 1, a,b ∈R. We prove that the global existence of mild solutions for small initial data with respect to certain norms. Some of these solutions are proved to be asymptotically self-similar.

The existence of nontrivial solutions to a semilinear elliptic system on without the ambrosetti-rabinowitz condition

In this paper, we prove the existence of at least one positive solution pair （u, v）∈ H1（RN） × H1（RN） to the following semilinear elliptic system {-△u＋u=f（x,v）,x∈RN,-△u＋u=g（x,v）,x∈RN （0.1）,by using a linking theorem and the concentration-compactness principle. The main conditions we imposed on the nonnegative functions f, g ∈C0（RN× R1） are that, f（x, t） and g（x, t） are superlinear at t = 0 as well as at t =＋∞, that f and g are subcritical in t and satisfy a kind of monotonic conditions. We mention that we do not assume that f or g satisfies the Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition as usual. Our main result can be viewed as an extension to a recent result of Miyagaki and Souto [J. Diff. Equ. 245（2008）, 3628-3638] concerning the existence of a positive solution to the semilinear elliptic boundary value problem {-△u＋u=f（x,u）,x∈Ω,u∈H0^1（Ω） where Ω ∩→RN is bounded and a result of Li and Yang [G. Li and J. Yang： Communications in P.D.E. Vol. 29（2004） Nos.5＆ 6.pp.925-954, 2004] concerning （0.1） when f and g are asymptotically linear.     

RESEARCH ANNOUNCEMENTS——Dynamical Behavior for the Three-dimensional Generalized Hasegawa-Mima Equations

Existence and bifurcation of solutions for a double coupled system of Schrdinger equations

Consider the following system of double coupled Schr¨odinger equations arising from Bose-Einstein condensates etc.,-△u+u=μ1u3+βuv2-κv,-△v+v=μ2v3+βu2v-κu,u≠0,v≠0 and u,v∈H1(RN),whereμ1,μ2are positive and fixed;κandβare linear and nonlinear coupling parameters respectively.We first use critical point theory and Liouville type theorem to prove some existence and nonexistence results on the positive solutions of this system.Then using the positive and non-degenerate solution to the scalar equation-△ω+ω=ω3,ω∈H1r(RN),we construct a synchronized solution branch to prove that forβin certain range and fixed,there exist a series of bifurcations in product space R×H1r(RN)×H1r(RN)with parameter κ.

A note on solutions for asymptotically linear elliptic systems

In this paper, we are concerned with the elliptic system of
{ -△u＋V（x）u=g（x,v）, x∈R^N,
-△v＋V（x）v=f（x,u）, x∈R^N,
where V（x） is a continuous potential well, f, g are continuous and asymptotically linear as t→∞. The existence of a positive solution and ground state solution are established via variational methods.

RECENT PROGRESS ON SPHERICAL HARMONIC APPROXIMATION MADE BY BNU RESEARCH GROUP ——In memory of Professor Sun Yongsheng

As early as in 1990, Professor Sun Yongsheng, suggested his students at Beijing Normal University to consider research problems on the unit sphere. Under his guidance and encouragement his students started the research on spherical harmonic analysis and approximation. In this paper, we incompletely introduce the main achievements in this area obtained by our group and relative researchers during recent 5 years （2001-2005）. The main topics are： convergence of Cesaro summability, a.e. and strong summability of Fourier-Laplace series; smoothness and K-functionals; Kolmogorov and linear widths.     

A unified approach to certain problems of best local approximation

In this paper we study best local quasi-rational approximation and best local approximation from finite dimensional subspaces of vectorial functions of several variables. Our approach extends and unifies several problems concerning best local multi-point approximation in different norms.     

Boundedness for commutators of multipliers on Hardy type spaces

In this paper, we study the commutators generalized by multipliers and a BMO function. Under some assumptions, we establish its boundedness properties from certain atomic Hardy space Hb^p（R^n） into the Lebesgue space L^p with p 〈 1.

Bounds for the zeros of polynomials

Let P(z)=∑↓j=0↑n ajx^j be a polynomial of degree n. In this paper we prove a more general result which interalia improves upon the bounds of a class of polynomials. We also prove a result which includes some extensions and generalizations of Enestrǒm-Kakeya theorem.     

Boundedness of commutators related to Marcinkiewicz integrals on hardy type spaces

In this paper, the authors study the boundedness of the operator [μΩ, b], the commutator generated by a function b ∈ Lipβ(Rn)(0 ＜β≤ 1) and the Marcinkiewicz integrals μΩ, on the classical Hardy spaces and the Herz-type Hardy spaces in the case Ω∈ Lipα(Sn-1)(0 ＜α≤ 1).     

Jacobi polynomials used to invert the laplace transform

Given the Laplace transform F(s) of a function f(t), we develop a new algorithm to find an approximation to f(t) by the use of the classical Jacobi polynomials. The main contribution of our work is the development of a new and very effective method to determine the coefficients in the finite series expansion that approximation f(t) in terms of Jacobi polynomials. Some numerical examples are illustrated.     

Generalization of the interaction between Haar approximation and polynomial operators to higher order methods

In applications it is useful to compute the local average empirical statistics on u. A very simple relation exists when of a function f（u） of an input u from the local averages are given by a Haar approximation. The question is to know if it holds for higher order approximation methods. To do so, it is necessary to use approximate product operators defined over linear approximation spaces. These products are characterized by a Strang and Fix like condition. An explicit construction of these product operators is exhibited for piecewise polynomial functions, using Hermite interpolation. The averaging relation which holds for the Haar approximation is then recovered when the product is defined by a two point Hermite interpolation.
