Inequalities for the largest zero of Jacobi polynomials, conjectured recently by us and in joint work with P. Leopardi, are here extended to all zeros of Jacobi polynomials, and new relevant conjectures are formulated based on extensive computation.   相似文献

Jacobi polynomials are mapped onto the continuous Hahn polynomials by the Fourier transform, and the orthogonality relations for the continuous Hahn polynomials then follow from the orthogonality relations for the Jacobi polynomials and the Parseval formula. In a special case this relation dates back to work by Bateman in 1933 and we follow a part of the historical development for these polynomials. Some applications of this relation are given.

We prove that Euler supercharacters for orthosymplectic Lie superalgebras can be obtained as a certain specialization of super Jacobi polynomials. A new version of Weyl type formula for super Schur functions and specialized super Jacobi polynomials play a key role in the proof.  相似文献

The aim of this article is to present the essential properties of a finite class of orthogonal polynomials related to the probability density function of the F -distribution over the positive real line. We introduce some basic properties of the Romanovski–Jacobi polynomials, the Romanovski–Jacobi–Gauss type quadrature formulae and the associated interpolation, discrete transforms, spectral differentiation and integration techniques in the physical and frequency spaces, and basic approximation results for the weighted projection operator in the nonuniformly weighted Sobolev space. We discuss the relationship between such kinds of finite orthogonal polynomials and other classes of infinite orthogonal polynomials. Moreover, we derive spectral Galerkin schemes based on a Romanovski–Jacobi expansion in space and time to solve the Cauchy problem for a scalar linear hyperbolic equation in one and two space dimensions posed in the positive real line. Two numerical examples demonstrate the robustness and accuracy of the schemes.  相似文献

A hierarchy of matrix-valued polynomials which generalize the Jacobi polynomials is found. Defined by a Rodrigues formula, they are also products of a sequence of differential operators. Each class of polynomials is complete, satisfies a three term recurrence relation, integral inter-relations, and weak orthogonality relations.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce the notion of Jacobi polynomials of a code with multiple reference vectors, and give the MacWilliams type identity for it. Moreover, we derive a formula to obtain the Jacobi polynomials using the Aronhold polarization operator. Finally, we describe some facts obtained from Type III and Type IV codes that interpret the relation between the Jacobi polynomials and designs.  相似文献

This paper describes how, given the Jacobi matrixJ for the measure d(t), it is possible to produce the Jacobi matrix for the measurer(t)d(t) wherer(t) is a quotient of polynomials. The method uses a new factoring algorithm to generate the Jacobi matrices associated with the partial fraction decomposition ofr(t) and then applies a previously developed summing technique to merge these Jacobi matrices. The factoring method performs best just where Gautschi's minimal solution method for this problem is weakest and vice versa. This suggests a hybrid strategy which is believed to be the most powerful yet for solving this problem. The method is demonstrated on a simple example and some numerical tests illustrate its performance characteristics.  相似文献

We give an algorithm for computing orthogonal polynomials over triangular domains in Bernstein–Bézier form which uses only the operator of degree raising and its adjoint. This completely avoids the need to choose an orthogonal basis (or tight frame) for the orthogonal polynomials of a given degree, and hence the difficulties inherent in that approach. The results are valid for Jacobi polynomials on a simplex, and show the close relationship between the Bernstein form of Jacobi polynomials, Hahn polynomials and degree raising.  相似文献

The main object of this paper is to construct a systematic investigation of a multivariable extension of the extended Jacobi polynomials and give some relations for these polynomials. We derive various families of multilinear and multilateral generating functions. We also obtain relations between the polynomials extended Jacobi polynomials and some other well-known polynomials. Other miscellaneous properties of these general families of multivariable polynomials are also discussed. Furthermore, some special cases of the results are presented in this study.  相似文献

Appell sequences in Clifford analysis are defined as polynomial families on which the Heisenberg algebra acts through a raising and a lowering operator satisfying the canonical Heisenberg relation. Recently, these sequences have gained new interest, as they are connected to the topic of special functions (such as harmonic or monogenic Gegenbauer polynomials) and branching rules for certain irreducible representations of the spin group. In this paper, we will explain how Jacobi polynomials appear quite naturally in the setting of Appell sequences related to certain branching problems. The main object of this paper is to investigate several general families of hypergeometric polynomials and their associated single-, double-, and triple-integral representations. Some known or new consequences of the general results presented here, involving such classical orthogonal polynomials as the Jacobi, Laguerre, Hermite, and Bessel polynomials, and various other relatively less familiar hypergeometric polynomials, are also considered. Each of the integral representations, which are derived in this paper, may be viewed also as a linearization relationship for the product of two different members of the associated family of hypergeometric polynomials.  相似文献

This paper presents a shifted fractional‐order Jacobi orthogonal function (SFJF) based on the definition of the classical Jacobi polynomial. A new fractional integral operational matrix of the SFJF is presented and derived. We propose the spectral Tau method, in conjunction with the operational matrices of the Riemann–Liouville fractional integral for SFJF and derivative for Jacobi polynomial, to solve a class of time‐fractional partial differential equations with variable coefficients. In this algorithm, the approximate solution is expanded by means of both SFJFs for temporal discretization and Jacobi polynomials for spatial discretization. The proposed tau scheme, both in temporal and spatial discretizations, successfully reduced such problem into a system of algebraic equations, which is far easier to be solved. Numerical results are provided to demonstrate the high accuracy and superiority of the proposed algorithm over existing ones. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Jacobi polynomials were introduced by Ozeki in analogy with Jacobi forms of lattices. They are useful to compute coset weight enumerators, and weight enumerators of children. We determine them in most interesting cases in length at most 32, and in some cases in length 72. We use them to construct group divisible designs, packing designs, covering designs, and (t,r)-designs in the sense of Calderbank-Delsarte. A major tool is invariant theory of finite groups, in particular simultaneous invariants in the sense of Schur, polarization, and bivariate Molien series. A combinatorial interpretation of the Aronhold polarization operator is given. New rank parameters for spaces of coset weight distributions and Jacobi polynomials are introduced and studied here.  相似文献

This article analyzes the solution of the integrated forms of fourth‐order elliptic differential equations on a rectilinear domain using a spectral Galerkin method. The spatial approximation is based on Jacobi polynomials P (x), with α, β ∈ (?1, ∞) and n the polynomial degree. For α = β, one recovers the ultraspherical polynomials (symmetric Jacobi polynomials) and for α = β = ?½, α = β = 0, the Chebyshev of the first and second kinds and Legendre polynomials respectively; and for the nonsymmetric Jacobi polynomials, the two important special cases α = ?β = ±½ (Chebyshev polynomials of the third and fourth kinds) are also recovered. The two‐dimensional version of the approximations is obtained by tensor products of the one‐dimensional bases. The various matrix systems resulting from these discretizations are carefully investigated, especially their condition number. An algebraic preconditioning yields a condition number of O(N), N being the polynomial degree of approximation, which is an improvement with respect to the well‐known condition number O(N8) of spectral methods for biharmonic elliptic operators. The numerical complexity of the solver is proportional to Nd+1 for a d‐dimensional problem. This operational count is the best one can achieve with a spectral method. The numerical results illustrate the theory and constitute a convincing argument for the feasibility of the method. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new class of three-variable orthogonai polynomials, defined as eigenfunctions of a second order PDE operator,is studied. These polynomials are orthogonal over a curved tetrahedron region, which can be seen as a mapping from a traditional tetrahedron, and can be taken as an extension of the 2-D Steiner domain. The polynomials can be viewed as Jacobi polynomials on such a domain.Three- term relations are derived explicitly. The number of the individual terms, involved in the recurrences relations, are shown to be independent on the total degree of the polynomials. The numbers now are determined to be five and seven, with respect to two conjugate variables z,(?) and a real variable r, respectively.Three examples are discussed in details, which can be regarded as the analogues of the Chebyshev polynomials of the first and the second kinds, and Legendre polynomials.  相似文献
