An optimal rigidity theorem for complete submanifolds in a sphere

It is proved that if M^n is an n-dimensional complete submanifold with parallel mean curvature vector and flat normal bundle in S^n＋p（1）, and if supM S 〈 α（n, H）, where α（n,H）=n＋n^3/2（n-1）H^2-n（n-2）/n（n-1）√n^2H^4＋4（n-1）H^2,then M^n must be the totally urnbilical sphere S^n（1/√1＋H^2）.An example to show that the pinching constant α（n, H） appears optimal is given.

设x:Mn→Sn 1是(n 1)维单位球面Sn 1中的无脐点的超曲面.Sn 1中超曲面x有两个基本的共形不变量:M(o)bius度量g和M(o)bius第二基本形式B.当超曲面维数大于3时,在相差一个M(o)bius变换下这两个不变量完全决定了超曲面.另外M(o)bius形式Ф也是一个重要的不变量,在一些分类定理中Ф=0条件的假定是必要的.本文考虑了Sn 1(n≥3)中具有消失M(o)bius形式Ф的超曲面:对具有调和曲率张量的超曲面进行分类,进而,在M(o)bius度量的意义下,对Einstein超曲面和具有常截面曲率的超曲面也进行了分类.     

On approximation of smooth functions from null spaces of optimal linear differential operators with constant coefficients

For a real valued function f defined on a finite interval I we consider the problem of approximating f from null spaces of differential operators of the form Ln(ψ) = n ∑ k=0 akψ(k), where the constant coefficients ak ∈ R may be adapted to f . We prove that for each f ∈ C(n)(I), there is a selection of coefficients {a1, ,an} and a corresponding linear combination Sn( f ,t) = n ∑ k=1 bkeλkt of functions ψk(t) = eλkt in the nullity of L which satisfies the following Jackson’s type inequality: f (m) Sn(m )( f ,t) ∞≤ |an|2n|Im|1/1q/ep|λ|λn|n|I||nm1 Ln( f ) p, where |λn| = mka x|λk|, 0 ≤ m ≤ n 1, p,q ≥ 1, and 1p + q1 = 1. For the particular operator Mn(f) = f + 1/(2n) f(2n) the rate of approximation by the eigenvalues of Mn for non-periodic analytic functions on intervals of restricted length is established to be exponential. Applications in algorithms and numerical examples are discussed.     

Classification of hypersurfaces with parallel M(o)bius second fundamental form in Sn+1

Let Mn(n≥2) be an immersed umbilic-free hypersurface in the(n+1)-dimensional unit sphere Sn+1. Then Mn is associated witha so-called M(o)bius metric g, and a M(o)bius second fundamental form Bwhich are invariants of Mn under the M(o)bius transformation groupof Sn+1.In this paper, we classify all umbilic-free hypersurfaces withparallel M(o)bius second fundamental form.

The Topoligical Sphere Theorem for Complete Submanifolds

A topological sphere theorem is obtained from the point of view of submanifold geometry. An important scalar is defined by the mean curvature and the squared norm of the second fundamental form of an oriented complete submanifold Mn in a space form of nonnegative sectional curvature. If the infimum of this scalar is negative, we then prove that the Ricci curvature of Mn has a positive lower bound. Making use of the Lawson–Simons formula for the nonexistence of stable k-currents, we eliminate Hk (Mn, Z) for all 1 ` k ` n – 1.We then observe that the fundamental group of Mn is trivial. It should be emphasized that our result is optimal.

Minimal surfaces in a unit sphere pinched by intrinsic curvature and normal curvature

We establish a nice orthonormal frame field on a closed surface minimally immersed in a unit sphere Sn, under which the shape operators take very simple forms. Using this frame field, we obtain an interesting property K + K~N= 1 for the Gauss curvature K and the normal curvature K~N if the Gauss curvature is positive. Moreover, using this property we obtain the pinching on the intrinsic curvature and normal curvature, the pinching on the normal curvature, respectively.

Homomorphisms Between Multiplicative Semigroups of Matrices Over Fields

Suppose F is a field, and n, p are integers with 1 ≤ p 〈 n. Let Mn（F） be the multiplicative semigroup of all n × n matrices over F, and let M^Pn（F） be its subsemigroup consisting of all matrices with rank p at most. Assume that F and R are subsemigroups of Mn（F） such that F M^Pn（F）. A map f ： F→R is called a homomorphism if f（AB） = f（A）f（B） for any A, B ∈F. In particular, f is called an endomorphism if F = R. The structure of all homomorphisms from F to R （respectively, all endomorphisms of Mn（F）） is described.

On the Multiplicity and the Cohen-Macaulayness of Fiber Cones of Graded Modules

Let (A,m) be a Noetherian local ring with maximal ideal m,I an ideal of A,J an m-primary ideal of A,N a finitely generated A-module,S =⊕n≥0 Sn a finitely generated standard graded algebra over A and M =⊕n≥0 Mn a finitely generated graded S-module.We characterize the multiplicity and the Cohen-Macaulayness of the fiber cone FJ(M) =⊕n≥0 Mn/JMn.As an application,we obtain some results on the multiplicity and the Cohen-Macaulayness of the fiber cone ⊕n≥0 InN/JInN.

Convex Hypersurfaces with Prescribed Curvature and Boundary in Riemannian Manifolds

In this article a priori estimates at the boundary for the second fundamental form of n-dimensional convex hypersurfaces M with prescribed curvature quotient Sn (M)/Sl (M) in Riemannian manifolds are derived. A consequence of these estimates and other known results is an existence theorem for such hypersurfaces, which is a generalization of a recent result of Ivochkina and Tomi to the Riemannian case.

Algebraic curvature tensors whose skew-symmetric curvature operator has constant rank 2

Let R be an algebraic curvature tensor for a non-degenerate inner product of signature (p,q) where q5. If is a spacelike 2 plane, let R() be the associated skew-symmetric curvature operator. We classify the algebraic curvature tensors so R() has constant rank 2 and show these are geometrically realizable by hypersurfaces in flat spaces. We also classify the Ivanov–Petrova algebraic curvature tensors of rank 2; these are the algebraic curvature tensors of constant rank 2 such that the complex Jordan normal form of R() is constant.

设CNnc是具有常全纯截面曲率c(≤O)的复n维的复空间形式,Mn是CNnc中常数量曲率的完备全实伪脐子流形,R,‖h‖2分别表示Mn的标准数量曲率和第二基本形式模长的平方.假设R≥c/4.利用丘成桐的广义极大值原理和自伴随算子研究了关于‖h‖2的pinching问题,得到了两个Mn成为全测地或全脐的刚性定理.
