CHARACTERIZING THE NIL RADICAL OF A GAMMA RING

ABSTRACT

The nil radical, N(M) of a Γ-ring M was defined by Coppage and Luh [3], and shown by Groenewald [4] to be a special radical. We define s-prime ideals of M and show that N(M) is equal to the intersection of the s-prime ideals of M. If R is a ring, the nil radical of R considered as a Γ-ring with Γ = R is equal to the upper nil radical of R. We also give a sufficient condition for the equality N(R)* = N(M), where R is the right operator ring of M, and N(R) is its upper nil radical.     

Near-Rings and Partitioned Groups

Over a commutative ring R with identity, free modules M with 2 distinguished submodules are studied. The category Rep₂R of such objects M have the obvious morphisms between them, which are homomorphisms between .R-modules preserving the distinguished submodules. The endo-morphisms for each M constitute a subalgebra End_RM of the algebra End_RM and the readability of λ-generated R-algebras A as End_RM is considered for cardinals λ. Despite the fact that 4 is the minimal number of distinguished submodules for realizing any algebra over a field il, we are able to prove a similar result in Rep₂R for many rings R including R = Z and algebras which are cotorsion-free. Several examples illustrate the boarder line of our main result. The main theorem is applied for constructing Butler groups in [11]

Fast convolutions meet Montgomery

Arithmetic in large ring and field extensions is an important problem of symbolic computation, and it consists essentially of the combination of one multiplication and one division in the underlying ring. Methods are known for replacing one division by two short multiplications in the underlying ring, which can be performed essentially by using convolutions.

However, while using school-book multiplication, modular multiplication may be grouped into operations (where denotes the number of operations of one multiplication in the underlying ring), the short multiplication problem is an important obstruction to convolution. It raises the costs in that case to . In this paper we give a method for understanding and bypassing this problem, thus reducing the costs of ring arithmetic to roughly when also using fast convolutions. The algorithms have been implemented with results which fit well the theoretical prediction and which shall be presented in a separate paper.

Let R be a noetherian ring and S an excellent extension of R.cid(M) denotes the copure injective dimension of M and cfd(M) denotes the copure flat dimension of M.We prove that if M S is a right S-module then cid(M S)=cid(M R) and if S M is a left S-module then cfd(S M)=cfd(R M).Moreover,cid-D(S)=cid-D(R) and cfd-D(S)=cfdD(R).     

WHITEHEAD GROUPS OF MODULE EXTENSIONS

When R satisfies (strong unit) 1-stable range and M is a R-R-bimodule, theauthors calculate that K1(R ∞ M) ≌ U(R ∞ M)/L(R ∞ M). ON EULER CHARACTERISTIC OF MODULES~(**)

This paper gives a characteristic property of the Euler characteristic for IBN rings. The following results: are proved. (1) If R is a commutative ring, M, N are two stable free R-modules, then χ(MN)=χ(M)χ(N), where χ denotes the Euler characteristic. (2) If f: K_0(R)→Z is a ring isomorphism, where K_0(R) denotes the Grothendieck group of R, K_0(R) is a ring when R is commutative, then f([M])=χ(M) and χ(MN)=χ(M)χ(N) when M, N are finitely generated projective R-modules, where.the isomorphism class [M] is a generator of K_0(R). In addition, some applications of the results above are also obtained.
