Experimental study of nonlinear switching characteristics of conventional 2×2 fused tapered couplers
The nonlinear switching characteristics of fused fiber directional couplers were studied experimentally. By using femtosecond laser pulses with pulse width of 100 fs and wavelength of about 1550 nm from a system of Ti:sapphire laser and optical parametric amplifier (OPA), the nonlinear switching properties of a null coupler and a 100% coupler were measured. The experimental results were coincident with the simulations based on nonlinear propagation equations in fiber by using super-mode theory. Nonlinear loss in fiber was also measured to get the injected power at the coupler. After deducting the nonlinear loss and input efficiency, the nonlinear switching critical peak powers for a 100% and a null fused couplers were calculated to be 9410 and 9440 W, respectively. The nonlinear loss parameter PN in an expression of αNL=αP/PN was obtained to be PN = 0.23 W. 相似文献

Influence of laser linewidth on performance of Brillouin optical time domain reflectometry 下载免费PDF全文
The effects of optical sources with different laser linewidths on Brillouin optical time domain reflectometry (BOTDR) are investigated numerically and experimentally. Simulation results show that the spectral linewidth of spontaneous Brillouin scattering remains almost constant when the laser linewidth is less than 1 MHz at the same pulse width; otherwise, it increases sharply. A comparison between a fiber laser (FL) with 4-kHz linewidth at 3 dB and a distributed feedback (DFB) laser with 3-MHz linewidth is made experimentally. When a constant laser power is launched into the sensing fiber, the fitting linewidths of the beat signals (backscattered Brillouin light and local oscillator (LO)) is about 5 MHz wider for the DFB laser than for the FL and the intensity of the beat signal is about a half. Furthermore, the frequency fluctuation in the long sensing fiber is lower for the FL source, yielding about 2 MHz less than that of the DFB laser, indicating higher temperature/strain resolution. We demonstrate a high power single-frequency fiber laser. By using phosphate glass fiber as its gain media, the laser can achieve high output power of 100 mW in centimeter-long linear cavity. 采用Ag+-Na+离子工艺,在K9玻璃上制备了跑道形波导谐振腔滤波器.测试得到该滤波器自由光谱范围为FSR=0.177 nm,对比对为Cr=7.5 dB.同时分析得到耦合器的耦合系数为κ=0.916,耦合器和环形腔的损耗因子分别为δ=0.55,γ=0.48.耦合器的两波导几乎相连、条波导边缘不规则和一次离子交换波导表面缺陷是造成该波导滤波器具有较大损耗的主要原因.通过改进工艺技术降低波导损耗,该滤波器可以用于光通信、传感等领域,也可与其它波导结构相结合实现新的功能. 相似文献

利用掺镧锆钛酸铅(PLZT)陶瓷二次电光效应结合光纤环形镜结构的优势构成偏振无关高速电光开关。采用琼斯矩阵方法分析了光纤环形镜的输出特性,给出了开关消光比同器件结构参量之间的关系。测量掺镧锆钛酸铅电光开关具有输入偏振无关特性,光开关消光比达到25 dB,响应时间小于3μs。此外利用此开关装置测量获得了实验用掺镧锆钛酸铅陶瓷的克尔系数为κ~1.1×10-16m2/V2。理论分析和实验结果表明,利用环形镜结构稳定优势和掺镧锆钛酸铅优良的电光特性结合设计的高速光开关具有良好的应前景。本工作对掺镧锆钛酸铅电光材料的应用推广和高速光开光研究提供了有益的理论和实验参考。 相似文献

A simplified ring cavity for achieving a unidirectional room temperature multi-wavelength erbium-doped fiber ring laser without optical isolator is demonstrated. The fiber ring cavity is built in such a way that the optical fields propagating in two directions suffer different losses caused by one sampled fiber Bragg grating. Furthermore, simultaneous multi-wavelength lasing with 0.8-nm intervals is demonstrated with sinusoidal phase modulation just before the sampled fiber Bragg grating to prevent single-wavelength lasing and unstable wavelength oscillation. 相似文献
