Based on our 2D BEM software THBEM2 which can be applied to the simulation of an elastic body with randomly distributed identical circular holes, a scheme of BEM for the simulation of elastic bodies with randomly distributed circular inclusions is proposed. The numerical examples given show that the boundary element method is more accurate and more effective than the finite element method for such a problem. The scheme presented can also be successfully used to estimate the effective elastic properties of composite materials. In this paper, the artificial boundary method is considered for the numerical simulation of the exterior Stokes flow in three dimensions. First, an exact relation between the normal stress and the velocity field is obtained on a spherical artificial boundary. With the relation specified on the artificial boundary, the original problem is reduced to a new one only defined on a finite domain. After that, an variational problem equivalent to the reduced problem is derived. By truncating the series term in the formulation, a sequence of approximate variational problems are obtained, which can then be solved with a suitable finite‐element scheme. A computational model is proposed for short-fiber reinforced materials with the eigenstrain formulation of the boundary integral equations (BIE) and solved with the newly developed boundary point method (BPM). The model is closely derived from the concept of the equivalent inclusion Of Eshelby tensors. Eigenstrains are iteratively determined for each short-fiber embedded in the matrix with various properties via the Eshelby tensors, which can be readily obtained beforehand either through analytical or numerical means. As unknown variables appear only on the boundary of the solution domain, the solution scale of the inhomogeneity problem with the model is greatly reduced. This feature is considered significant because such a traditionally time-consuming problem with inhomogeneity can be solved most cost-effectively compared with existing numerical models of the FEM or the BEM. The numerical examples are presented to compute the overall elastic properties for various short-fiber reinforced composites over a representative volume element (RVE), showing the validity and the effectiveness of the proposed computational modal and the solution procedure.  相似文献

The Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) framework coupled with some boundary tracking techniques is proven to be an effective method for simulation of free‐surface flows. In this paper, a special ALE framework is derived with clarification of three velocities, the notion of mesh‐frozen and field‐frozen, and the notion of tentatively inertial coordinates. A weighted integral ALE governing equations are formulated on generic coordinates and discretized with a finite element method and linear implicit time scheme. The system is solved with a discrete operator splitting technique and superposition‐based logistic parallelization. The formulation and implementation are verified through several fixed‐geometry problems and a reasonably good parallel performance is observed. Capillary jet flow is the main problem of the paper and the numerical techniques for boundary tracking are elaborated, which include an indirect boundary tracking of flux method and an iterative direct boundary tracking method. Also, a high‐order compact scheme for dynamic boundary condition and a squeeze technique for kinematic boundary condition are adopted. The axisymmetric jet breakup is studied in detail and numerical results match with the published data very well. In this work, two-phase parallel fiber-reinforced periodic piezoelectric composites are considered wherein the constituents exhibit transverse isotropy and the cells have different configurations. Mechanical imperfect contact at the interface of the piezoelectric composites is studied via linear spring model. The statement of the problem for two-phase piezoelectric composites with mechanical imperfect contact is given. The local problems are formulated by means of the asymptotic homogenization method, and their solutions are found using complex variable theory. Analytical formulae are obtained for the effective properties of the composites with spring imperfect type of contact and different rhombic cells. Using the concept of a representative volume element (RVE), a finite element model is created, which combines the angular distribution of fibers and imperfect contact conditions (spring type) between the phases. Periodic boundary conditions are applied to the RVE, so that effective material properties can be derived. The fibers are distributed in such a way that the microstructure is characterized by a rhombic cell. The presented numerical homogenization technique is validated by comparing results with theoretical approach reported in the literature. Some studies of particular cases, numerical examples, and comparisons between the two aforementioned methods with other theoretical results illustrate that the model is efficient for the analysis of composites with presence of rhombic cells and the aforementioned imperfect contact.  相似文献

In this paper, an adaptive boundary element method (BEM) is presented for solving 3-D elasticity problems. The numerical scheme is accelerated by the new version of fast multipole method (FMM) and parallelized on distributed memory architectures. The resulting solver is applied to the study of representative volume element (RVE) for short fiber-reinforced composites with complex inclusion geometry. Numerical examples performed on a 32-processor cluster show that the proposed method is both accurate and efficient, and can solve problems of large size that are challenging to existing state-of-the-art domain methods.The project supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (10472051).The English text was polished by Yunming Chen.  相似文献

The acoustical scattering by a cracked elastic structure is studied. The mixed method of boundary element and fractal finite element is adopted to solve the cracked structure-acoustic coupling problem. The fractal two-level finite element method is employed for the cracked structure, which can reduce the degree of freedoms (DOFs) greatly, and the boundary element method is used for the exterior acoustic field which can automatically satisfy Sommerfeld‘s radiation condition. Numerical examples show that the resonance frequency is lower with the crack‘s depth increase, and that the effect on the acoustical field by the crack is particularly pronounced in the vicinity of the crack tip. This mixed method of boundary element and finite element is effective in solving the scattering problem by a cracked structure.  相似文献

A simple and accurate mixed finite element-differential quadrature formulation is proposed to study the free vibration of rectangular and skew Mindlin plates with general boundary conditions. In this technique, the original plate problem is reduced to two simple bar (or beam) problems. One bar problem is discretized by the finite element method (FEM) while the other by the differential quadrature method (DQM). The mixed method, in general, combines the geometry flexibility of the FEM and high accuracy and efficiency of the DQM and its implementation is more easier and simpler than the case where the FEM or DQM is fully applied to the problem. Moreover, the proposed formulation is free of the shear locking phenomenon that may be encountered in the conventional shear deformable finite elements. A simple scheme is also presented to exactly implement the mixed natural boundary conditions of the plate problem. The versatility, accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method for free vibration analysis of rectangular and skew Mindlin plates are tested against other solution procedures. It is revealed that the proposed method can produce highly accurate solutions for the natural frequencies of rectangular and skew Mindlin plates with general boundary conditions.  相似文献
