We present measurements of the anisotropy of the nonlinear absorption of a silica matrix doped with aligned spheroidal silver nanoparticles, produced by a double ion-implantation process of silver nanoparticles followed by an irradiation with Si ions. The nonlinear response was studied using the z-scan technique with fs pulses at 530 nm, which lies very close to the surface-plasmon absorption peak of the sample. The observed saturable absorption is studied for different angles of the input linear polarization of the pulses, showing a strong anisotropy, which is consistent with the fact that the nanorods are aligned.  相似文献

In the present work, we report the third order nonlinear optical properties of ZnO thin films deposited using self assembly, sol gel process as well as pulsed laser ablation by z scan technique. ZnO thin films clearly exhibit a negative nonlinear index of refraction at 532 nm and the observed nonlinear refraction is attributed to two photon absorption followed by free carrier absorption. Although the absolute nonlinear values for these films are comparable, there is a change in the sign of the absorptive nonlinearity of the films. The films developed by dip coating and pulsed laser ablation exhibit reverse saturable absorption whereas the self assembled film exhibits saturable absorption. These different nonlinear characteristics in the self assembled films can be mainly attributed to the saturation of linear absorption of the ZnO defect states.  相似文献

Nanocomposite films consisting of gold nanospheres or gold nanorods embedded in a silica matrix have been prepared using a hybrid deposition technique consisting of plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition of SiO2 and co-sputtering of gold, followed by annealing at 900 °C. Subsequent irradiation with 30 MeV heavy ions (Cu5+) was used to form gold nanorods. Linear and nonlinear optical properties of this material are closely related with the surface plasmon resonance in the visible. The nonlinear absorption coefficient (α2@532 nm) for the films containing gold nanospheres was measured by Z-scan and P-scan techniques, and it was found to be isotropic and equal to −4.8 × 10−2 cm/W. On the contrary, gold nanorods films exhibited two distinct surface plasmon resonance absorption bands giving rise to a strong anisotropic behavior, namely a polarization-dependent linear absorption and saturable absorption. Z-scan and P-scan measurements using various light polarization directions yielded nonlinear absorption coefficient (α2@532 nm) values varying from −0.9 × 10−2 cm/W up to −3.0 × 10−2 cm/W. Linearity of the P-scan method in the context of nanocomposite saturable absorption is also discussed.  相似文献

InP nanocrystals synthesized by refluxing and annealing of organic solvent are determined from XRD measurements to have an averse granularity of 25 nm. The nonlinear optical properties of the InP nanocrystals studied by using laser Z-scan technique with 50 ps pulses at 532nm are found to reveal strong nonlinear optical properties and two-photon absorption phenomenon. Also, the nonlinear absorption coeffcient, the nonlinear refractive index and the third-order nonlinear optical susceptibility are determined by experiments, in which the nonlinear refractive index is three orders of magnitude larger than that of bulk InP.  相似文献

The third-order nonlinear optical properties of a series of polythiophenes are investigated with the Z-scan method under picosecond pulse laser irradiation at 532nm. The copolymers exhibit a good nonlinear response: large nonlinear refraction coefficients without nonlinear absorption. The signs of nonlinear refraction coefficients are positive, which are opposite to the negative signs of the polythiophene reported before. The mechanism accounting for the process of nonlinear refraction under pulse laser excitation is analyzed from the viewpoint of the electrondonor/acceptor units of polythiophenes. Moreover, changes of nonlinearity according to the lengths of main chains in polythiophene molecules are discussed.  相似文献

We present the studies of nonlinear refraction and nonlinear absorption in promising crystals which are extensively used in Raman lasers or as solid-state laser host materials: Ba(NO3)2, KGW, KYW, and KYbW. The single-beam z-scan technique with 1 ps laser pulses at 790 and 395 nm has been applied for the study. Nonlinear refraction-index intensity-coefficients and two-photon absorption coefficients have been determined for the crystals. The considerable enhancement of nonlinear refraction is observed in the crystals at 395 nm.  相似文献

We report on the ultrafast third-order optical nonlinearity in multilayer Au/TiO2 composite films fabricated on quartz substrates by pulsed laser deposition technique. The linear optical properties of the films are determined and optical absorption peaks due to surface plasmon resonance of Au particles are observed at about 590hm. The third-order optical nonlinearities of the films are investigated by z-scan method using a femtosecond laser (50 fs) at the wavelength of 800 nm. The sample showed fast nonlinear optical responses with nonlinear absorption coefficient and nonlinear refractive index being -3.66 × 10^-10 m/W and -2.95 × 10^-17 m^2/W, respectively. The results also show that the nonlinear optical effects increase with the increasing Au concentration in the composite films.  相似文献

We investigate the third-order nonlinear optical properties of six novel fullerene derivatives under picosecond laser excitation by Z-scan technique. The experimental results reveal that all the derivatives have very large nonlinear absorption coefficient under 532 nm pulses excitation and great third-order nonlinear refraction index under 1064 nm pulses excitation. The molecular second hyperpolarizabilities are obtained from the experimental results.  相似文献

A new design of an all optical Flip-Flop is proposed. It consists of a nonlinear distributed feedback (DFB) laser. The wave guiding layer of the DFB laser consists of linear grating section followed by a nonlinear one, and both sections are separated by a phase shift section. In the OFF-state, the real part of the refractive index in the wave guiding layer forms a Bragg grating. In the ON-state, it forms a Bragg grating with a phase shift section. Optical gain is achieved by current injection in the semiconductor active layer. Nonlinearity in the nonlinear layers of the semiconductor grating was achieved by direct absorption at the edge of the absorption band (Urbach tail). Numerical simulation shows that the device switches in a nanosecond time scale.  相似文献

A quantitative technique for flow measurements based on a wash-in analysis is proposed. The technique makes use of the shape dependence of the optical absorption of gold nanorods and the transitions in their shape induced by pulsed laser irradiation. The photon-induced shape transition of gold nanorods involves mainly a rod-to-sphere conversion and a shift in the peak optical absorption wavelength. The application of a series of laser pulses will induce shape changes in gold nanorods as they flow through a region of interest, with quantitative flow information being derived from the photoacoustic signals from the irradiated gold nanorods measured as a function of time. To demonstrate the feasibility of the technique, a Nd:YAG laser operating at 1064 nm was used for irradiation and a 1 MHz ultrasonic transducer was used for acoustic detection. The flow velocity ranged from 0.35 to 2.83 mm/s. Excellent agreement between the measured velocities and the actual velocities was demonstrated, with a linear regression correlation coefficient of 0.93. This study is a pioneer work on wash-in flow estimation in photoacoustic imaging.  相似文献

The laser ablation of Ge and GaAs targets placed in water and ethanol was carried out using the fundamental radiation of nanosecond Nd:YLF laser. The results of preparation and the optical and nonlinear optical characterization of the Ge and GaAs nanoparticle suspensions are presented. The considerable shift of the band gap energy of the nanoparticles compared to the bulk semiconductors was observed. The distribution of nanoparticle sizes was estimated in the range of 1.5-10 nm on the basis of the TEM and spectral measurements. The nonlinear refractive indices and nonlinear absorption coefficients of Ge and GaAs nanoparticles were defined by the z-scan technique using second harmonic radiation of picosecond Nd:YAG laser (λ = 532 nm).  相似文献

This paper presents an investigation on the synthesis and characterization of ZnO-Ag core-shell nanocomposites. ZnO nanorods were employed as core material for Ag seeds, and subsequent nucleation and growth of reduced Ag by formaldehyde formed the ZnO-Ag core-shell nanocomposites. The ZnO-Ag nanocomposites were annealed at different temperature to improve the crystallinity and binding strength of Ag nanoparticles. The morphology, microstructure and optical properties of the ZnO-Ag core-shell nanocomposites were characterized by X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) absorption and photoluminescence measurement. It was demonstrated that very small face-center-cubic Ag nanoparticles were coated on the surface of ZnO nanorods. The ultraviolet absorption and surface plasmon absorption band of ZnO-Ag core-shell nanocomposites exhibited some redshifts relative to pure ZnO nanorods and monometallic Ag nanoparticles. The coating of Ag nanocrystals onto the ZnO nanorods completely quenched the photoluminescence. These observations reflected the strong interfacial interaction between ZnO nanorods and Ag nanoparticles. The effect of Ag coating thickness on the morphology and optical properties of ZnO-Ag core-shell nanocomposites was also investigated. Moreover, the growth mechanism of ZnO-Ag core-shell nanocomposites was also proposed and discussed in detail.  相似文献

The nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of a novel cluster Polymer {WS4Cu4I2(bpe)3}n solution are studied by using Z-scan technique with laser pulses of 4.5 ns pulse-width at a wavelength of 532 nm. The results show that the cluster solution possesses strong nonlinear absorption and refraction. Nonlinear refraction of the cluster is composed of third-order nonlinear refraction and transient thermal effect. The thermal effect is mainly due to the strong nonlinear absorption. Numerical simulations obtained by solving simultaneously photo-acoustic and electromagnetic wave equations, agrees basically with experimental results.  相似文献

Bismuth sulfide (Bi2S3) and antimony sulfide (Sb2S3) nanorods were synthesized by hydrothermal method. The products were characterized by UV-vis spectrophotometer, X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). Bi2S3 and Sb2S3 nanorods were measured by Z-scan technique to investigate the third-order nonlinear optical (NLO) properties. The result of NLO measurements shows that the Bi2S3 and Sb2S3 nanorods have the behaviors of the third-order NLO properties of both NLO absorption and NLO refraction with self-focusing effects. The third-order NLO coefficient χ(3) of the Bi2S3 and Sb2S3 nanorods are 6.25×10−11 esu and 4.55×10−11 esu, respectively. The Sb2S3 and Bi2S3 nanorods with large third-order NLO coefficient are promising materials for applications in optical devices.  相似文献

The quest for materials exhibiting high nonlinear refraction and absorption are required for photonic device application. In this paper we report a simplified Z-scan technique, to study the optical nonlinearity of the dye bromocresol purple in methanol and ethanol for different concentration and dye doped polymer film at the wavelength 532 nm of Nd:YAG laser. The experimental results show that the investigated organic dye molecule exhibits saturation absorption and negative nonlinearity. The nonlinear absorption co-efficient and the nonlinear refractive index were measured for the dye doped film, and for dye in methanol and ethanol at the concentration of 0.03 mM and 0.05 mM. The measured third order susceptibility was found to be of the order of 10−6 e.s.u. in both solid and liquid medium. The result shows that the dye has potential applications in nonlinear optics.  相似文献

The mechanisms of nonlinear absorption in transparent materials under irradiation with ultrashort laser pulses are considered theoretically. Nitride semiconductor, sapphire and others transparent dielectrics were investigated. The ablation threshold for these materials is within multi-TW/cm2 range. The model was used based on the tunneling absorption under the irradiation by high-intensity ultrashort pulses in terms of the theory of ionization of solid in a field of strong electromagnetic wave. The effect of the energy gap of material on the threshold of laser ablation was adequately explained.  相似文献

Nonlinear optical properties of Basic Violet 16 dye solution in water are studied employing different optical techniques. Experiments are performed using the second harmonic of a continuous Nd-Yag laser beam at 532 nm wavelength and 100 mW power. The effect of nonlinearity of Basic Violet 16 dye in broadening the laser beam is observed. The optical limiting behavior is investigated by measuring the transmission of the samples. The third-order nonlinearity, χ3 of Basic Violet 16 dye, is measured using Z-scan data. The nonlinear absorption coefficient is calculated using the open aperture Z-scan data, while its nonlinear refractive index is measured using the closed aperture Z-scan data. All experiments are done for different concentrations and thicknesses of Basic Violet 16 dye solution. The effect of intensity of input laser beam on the nonlinear susceptibility is studied experimentally. Results indicate that Basic Violet 16 dye is a potential candidate for low-power optical limiting applications.  相似文献

Linear and nonlinear optical properties of a new organic dye, trans-4-[p-(N-n-butyl-N-n-butylamino)-styryl]-N-methyl-pyridinium tetraphenylborate solution in dimethyl formamide (DMF) have been studied systematically. When excited with mode-locked picosecond 1 064 nm laser beam, intense upconversion fluorescence and superradiance can be obtained. The temporal behaviors of one-photon absorption and two-photon absorption (TPA) fluorescence and superradiance have been studied. The highest upconversion efficiency was found to be 4.1% at a pump energy of 4 mJ. By using an optical parameter amplifier (OPA) as the pump laser, the nonlinear transmittance and upconversion efficiencies of the dye solution at different wavelengths were measured. The strongest linear absorption was found at a wavelength of 930 nm whereas the highest upconversion efficiency was at 1 030 nm. The 100 nm red-shift for the highest upconversion efficiency wavelength compared with the strongest nonlinear absorption are caused by excited state absorption. Two soluble polymer grafted multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs), including poly(N-vinylcarbazole)-MWNTs and poly(methyl methacrylate)-MWNTs, are synthesized. Their nonlinear optical properties and opticaJ limiting (OL) performances are investigated by z-scan method with 527nm nanosecond laser pulses. These grafted MWNTs dissolved in chloroform show much better optical limiting performance than those of MWNTs and C60 in toluene solution. Nonlinear absorption and nonlinear scattering mechanism are taken into consideration for explaining the observed results. The comparison of the experimental results shows that nonlinear absorption is the dominant mechanism for OL performance of these new samples.  相似文献

The photo-bleaching of single living cells excited by femtosecond laser irradiation was observed in situ to study the nonlinear interaction between ultrafast laser pulses and living human breast MDA-MB-231 cells. We conducted a systematic study of the energy dependence of plasma-mediated photo-disruption of fluorescently labeled subcellular structures in the nucleus of living cells using near-infrared (NIR) femtosecond laser pulses through a numerical aperture objective lens (0.75 NA). The behavior of photo-bleached living cells with fluorescently labeled nuclei was observed for 18 h after femtosecond laser irradiation under a fluorescence microscope. The photo-bleaching of single living cells without cell disruption occurred at between 470 and 630 nJ. To study the photo-disruption of subcellular organelles in single living cells using the nonlinear absorption excited by a NIR femtosecond laser pulse, the process of photo-bleaching without photo-disruption provides key information for clarifying the nonlinear interaction between NIR ultrashort, high-intensity laser light and transparent fluorescently labeled living cells.  相似文献
