在AWG器件的设计中引入了抛物线型的楔形波导结构,根据过渡区理论优化了引入的抛物线型楔形结构的形状和尺寸.采用抛物线型楔形结构代替直线型楔形结构,AWG的插入损耗降低了2 dB左右.在优化参数时使输出/输入波导间距与阵列波导间距取不同的值,并使输出/输入波导间距适当增大,而阵列波导间距取较小值,这样使得串扰降至-30 dB以下且插入损耗保持在低水平.运用光束传播方法给出器件的输出光谱并证实了理论上预想的结果.  相似文献

A 32 × 32 arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) multiplexer operating around the 1550 nm wavelength has been designed and fabricated using highly fluorinated polyethers. The propagation loss of the slab waveguide is about 0.3 dB/cm at 1550 nm wavelength. The channel spacing of the AWG multiplexer is 0.8 nm (100 GHz). The insertion loss of the multiplexer is 10.3-15.3 dB and the crosstalk is less than −20 dB.  相似文献

A 33×33 polymer arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) multiplexer is optimized and fabricated. This device is made of polymeric materials named 2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorostyrene-co-glycidylmethacrylate (PFS-co-GMA). The central wavelength and wavelength spacing are designed to be 1550.918 and 0.8 nm, respectively. The calculated results are: the 3-dB bandwidth is about 0.24 nm, insertion loss is about 8.4 dB and crosstalk is −33.7 dB. The corresponding measured results are: the center wavelength is about 1550.85 nm, wavelength channel spacing is about 0.81 nm, 3-dB bandwidth is about 0.35 nm, crosstalk is about −20 dB, insertion loss is between 10.4 dB for the central port and 11.9 dB for the edge ports.  相似文献

A triplexer is fabricated based on SOI arrayed waveguide gratings (AWGs). Three wavelengths of the triplexer operate at different diffraction orders of an arrayed waveguide grating. The signals of 1490nm and 1550nm, which are input from central input waveguide of an AWG, are demultiplexed and the signal of 131Onto, which is input from central output waveguide of an AWG, is uploaded. The tested results show that the downloaded and uploaded signals have fiat-top response. The insertion loss is 9 dB on chip, the nonadjacent crosstalk is less than -30 dB for 1490nm and 1301 nm, and is less than -25 dB for 1550nm, the 3dB bandwidth equates that of the input light source.  相似文献

We propose a new type of arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) multiplexer/demultiplexer based on modified group refractive index. This device is composed by an array of straight and parallel waveguides of equal length and each waveguide consist of two sections with different width. The length of the two sections are changed from a waveguide to the adjacent one following a linear dependence resulting in a wavelength dispersive waveguide array. An example of the device design for silicon-on-insulator (SOI) platform is provided and numerical simulations have been carried out for various arrayed waveguide parameters. We demonstrate that the group index modification can be used for tailoring device dispersion properties, and that it can also result in new dispersion characteristics predicted numerically not observed in conventional AWGs. Additional advantages are that the demultiplexer does not necessarily require bending waveguide sections as in a conventional AWG (de)multiplexers, and thus yields highly compact devices with potentially very low insertion loss. Channel spacing of 1 nm have been predicted for sub-micron waveguides sizes. In this paper it is also proposed a novel wavefront converter based on waveguide array lens-like element with waveguides broadened sections. Numerical results for different input/output geometries are analized.  相似文献

阵列波导光栅的平坦化在实际应用中有很重要的意义.本文系统地研究了阵列波导光栅的平坦化.在输入波导、输出波导、阵列波导输入端与输出端上分别引入了指数型锥形波导.通过改变锥形波导的形状和尺寸来实现平坦化的优化.本文首先从理论上论述了引入指数型锥形波导的输出光谱特性,给出了结构参量的关系表达式,阐明了输入波导处的锥形波导是影响输出光谱平坦化的主要因素,阵列波导和输出波导处的锥形波导对输出光谱的平坦化有一定的影响.其次采用数值模拟的方法模拟了输出光谱,优化了结构参量,总结出了指数型锥形波导对平坦化影响的趋势和规律.模拟结果显示,输出光谱1 dB带宽大于通道间隔的50%,插入损耗从5.2 dB减小到了4.0 dB,串扰小于-30 dB.最后,本文给出了实验结果,插入损耗减小了0.87 dB,串扰减小了3.67 dB,1 dB带宽增加0.1 nm,增加了54.7%.实验结果表明引入指数型锥形波导提高了阵列波导光栅器件的光谱性能.  相似文献

A novel arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) with asymmetric configuration is proposed. In this configuration, the length of the output slab region, the width and the spacing of the output waveguides are unequal to the corresponding parts of the input ones. Compared to a conventional symmetric AWG, the asymmetric AWG proposed in this paper has a smaller size without degrading its performance The analytic method used in a conventional symmetric AWG is extended to the asymmetric AWG. A design example of an asymmetric AWG with low insertion loss, low channel crosstalk and wide bandwidth is presented.  相似文献

A novel 1 × N optical switch array based on arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) structure is presented in this paper. The device is designed for polymeric materials with a large negative thermooptic (TO) coefficient, which is employed to change the imaging effect and to realize optical switching. When input wavelength is located in a special waveband, the optical signal will image at different output channel as temperature changes. The two-dimensional finite difference beam propagation method (FD-BPM) has been used to simulate a 1 × 9 optical switch array. The insertion loss of this switch array is below 1.37 dB and the extinction ratio is better than 31 dB at 1550 nm, when the coupling and propagation loss is neglected. The optimum design and the simulation results show that this structure could be a multiple wavelengths switching at the same time.  相似文献

A compact eight-channel flat spectral response arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) multiplexer based on silicon-on-insulator (SOI) materials has been fabricated on the planar lightwave circuit (PLC). The 1-dB bandwidth of 48 GHz and 3-dB bandwidth of 69 GHz are obtained for the 100 GHz channel spacing. Not only non-adjacent crosstalk but also adjacent crosstalk are less than −25 dB. The on-chip propagation loss range is from 3.5 to 3.9 dB, and the total device size is 1.5 × 1.0 cm2.  相似文献

阵列波导光栅(AWG)器件是波分复用(WDM)系统的一种关键器件,其中,聚合物阵列波导光栅由于其制备工艺、器件集成等方面的优势而受到人们的日益关注。侧壁散射损耗是聚合物阵列波导光栅损耗的一个主要因素,减少阵列波导光栅波导的侧壁损耗对制备低损耗阵列波导光栅具有重要意义。一种蒸气回溶技术被用来有效地减少硅基聚合物阵列波导光栅的散射损耗,该技术的机理是饱和溶剂分子融入并软化波导侧壁,增加其流动性,从而降低波导侧壁粗糙度。用扫描电镜方法验证了用该技术能获得更光滑的波导侧壁。对直波导和阵列波导光栅样品进行回溶处理,测试后得到直波导的侧壁散射损耗减少2.1 dB/cm,阵列波导光栅中心信道和周边信道的插入损耗分别减少5.5 dB和6.7 dB,串扰减少2.5 dB。  相似文献

In this Letter, a 16 channel 200 GHz wavelength tunable arrayed waveguide grating(AWG) is designed and fabricated based on the silicon on insulator platform. Considering that the performance of the AWG, such as central wavelength and crosstalk, is sensitive to the dimension variation of waveguides, the error analysis of the AWG with width fluctuations is worked out using the transfer function method. A heater is designed to realize the wavelength tunability of the AWG based on the thermo-optic effect of silicon. The measured results show that the insertion loss of the AWG is about 6 d B, and the crosstalk is 7.5 d B. The wavelength tunability of 1.1 nm is achieved at 276 m W power consumption, and more wavelength shifts will gain at larger power consumption.  相似文献

To reduce the crosstalk of the polymer waveguide optical switches, waveguide attenuators are integrated with the switch on the same substrate. The switch and attenuator shares a single connected electrode which is controlled by a single current source. Due to the simple structure of the integrated attenuator, the device length is reduced to 10 mm so as to provide low insertion loss of 0.8 and 1.1 dB for 1300 and 1550 nm, respectively. Further radiation of the remained optical signal on the switch-off branch is induced by the integrated attenuator so that the switching crosstalk is reduced to −70 dB with an applied electrical power of 200 mW. The low crosstalk is maintained for the environmental temperature range of −10 to 55 °C.  相似文献

随着AWG型器件在光通信系统中的大规模应用,对低成本AWG芯片的需求越来越多。在各种降成本方案中,减小AWG芯片的尺寸是最有效的方法之一。本文介绍了一种新型小尺寸低折射率差硅基二氧化硅阵列波导光栅(AWG)的设计。在该AWG中,输入波导/输出波导与平板波导连接的部分制作成两侧为空气槽的高折射率差波导,所以在与输出平板波导连接处的相邻输出波导间距较小,这样可以在设计上缩短平板波导的长度、减少阵列波导的数量,实现较小的AWG芯片尺寸。该AWG的其它部分,如输入/输出波导与光纤耦合的部分、阵列波导光栅等均采用常规的低折射率波导工艺,所以就同时具有与常规的低折射率波导AWG相同的优点:如低耦合损耗、较好的串扰以及光学特性等。根据这个原理,设计了一种40通道100 GHz频率间隔的低折射率差硅基二氧化硅AWG,其芯片尺寸只有23.88 mm?10.5 mm,是传统相同材料制作的AWG尺寸的1/6。  相似文献

设计并制作了一款应用于IEEE 200/400GbE标准802.3bs的阵列波导光栅.该阵列波导光栅使用2.0%的超高折射率差硅基二氧化硅材料,使得芯片尺寸及损耗较小.为了获得平坦化的接收光谱,将输出波导进行展宽,采用多模波导结构,激发若干个高阶模,数个模式叠加使得原本高斯状的光谱顶部产生平坦化,形成箱形接收光谱.设计的阵列波导光栅的中心波长为1 291.10nm,通道间隔为800GHz,芯片尺寸为11mm×4mm.经过等离子增强化学气相沉积和感应耦合等离子刻蚀工艺制备了芯片,测试结果表明最小的插入损耗为-3.3dB,相邻通道间串扰小于-20dB,单通道1dB带宽在2.12~3.06nm范围,实现了良好的解复用和平坦化效果,在实际光通信系统中有一定的实用价值.  相似文献

Structural model and design technique are proposed for a polymer directional coupler electro-optic switch with rib waveguides and push-pull electrodes, of which the electric field distribution is analyzed by the conformal transforming method and image method. In order to get the minimum mode loss and the minimum switching voltage, the parameters of the waveguide and electrode are optimized, such as the core with, core thickness, buffer layer between the core and the electrode, coupling gap between the waveguides, electrode thickness, electrode width and electrode gap. Switching Characteristics are analyzed, which include the output power, insertion loss, and crosstalk. To realize normal switching function, the fabrication error, spectrum shift, and coupling loss between a single mode fiber (SMF) and the waveguide are discussed. Simulation results show that the coupling length is 3082 μm, push-pull switching voltage is 2.14 V, insertion loss is less than 1.17 dB, and crosstalk is less than −30 dB for the designed device.  相似文献

In this paper, we have analyzed the performance and feasibility for the metropolitan area network based on arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) multiplexers and arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) demultiplexers operating at the bitrate of 10 Gb/s. In the network, the data is successfully transmitted to a distance of 50 km with a very low BER of 1 × 10−40 thus improving the performance over AWG star based networks. Here, we have observed that arrayed waveguide gratings based multiplexers and demultiplexers for WDM applications prove to be capable of precise multiplexing and demultiplexing of a large number of channels with relatively low losses. This paper also presents the comparative investigation and suitability of various data formats like NRZ Rectangular, NRZ Raised cosine, RZ Rectangular, RZ Raised cosine and RZ super Gaussian for optical transmission link. It has been shown that RZ Raised cosine yields the highest value of Q, good eye opening and lowest BER.  相似文献

We propose a beam steering type optical switch employing a phase shifter. It consists of collimating waveguide mirrors, an arrayed-waveguide which has deep trenches incorporating polymer materials, and input/output waveguides. The incident light is guided to the front mirror, where it is then collimated, and input to the arrayed waveguide. The number of trenches filled with polymer linearly increases in order. The refractive index of the polymer can be controlled with temperature, and the propagation direction of the output light from the arrayed waveguide can also be controlled. A switch with 15 waveguides in the array has been fabricated. The chip size is about 2:5 × 9:0 mm2, the insertion loss is 10 dB, and the extinction ratio is about 10–13 dB.  相似文献

Planar waveguides with ultra-low propagation loss are necessary for integrating optoelectronic systems that require long optical time delay or narrowband optical filters. In this paper, we review an ultra-low loss planar waveguide platform that uses thin (<150 nm) Si3N4 cores and thick (>8 μm) SiO2 cladding layers. In particular, we discuss the performance of arrayed waveguide gratings (AWGs) fabricated with the platform. We propose the use of a practical design method that takes the statistical nature of worst-case crosstalk into account. We also demonstrate the measurement of amplitude and phase error distributions in an AWG using an optical backscatter reflectometer. We show that the waveguides have phase errors small enough to achieve AWG crosstalk below ?30 dB, while crosstalk below ?40 dB should also be possible with optimization of the component design.  相似文献

First some important parameters are optimized for the structural design of a polymer arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) multiplexer around the central wavelength of 1.55 μm with the wavelength spacing of 1.6 nm. These parameters include the thickness and width of the guide core, mode effective refractive indices and group refractive index, diffraction order, pitch of adjacent waveguides, length difference of adjacent arrayed waveguides, focal length of slab waveguides, free spectral range (FSR), the number of input/output (I/O) channels, and that of arrayed waveguides. Then the bent angles, radii and lengths of all the input/output channels and arrayed waveguides are determined. Finally, a schematic waveguide layout of this device is presented, which contains 2 slabs, 11 input channels, 11 output channels, and 91 arrayed waveguides.  相似文献

To the best of our knowledge, proposed is the first liquid lens technology-based 2 × 2 free-space optical switch using a pair of Electronically Controlled Variable Focus Lenses (ECVFLs). By independently controlling the focal lengths of two cascaded liquid ECVFLs, the two input optical beams are spatially adjusted to couple to their respective output beam ports. At 633-nm, the experimental switch demonstrates 26.3 dB crosstalk, 23.0 dB within-channel isolation, 1.1 dB optical loss, and 0.2 dB Polarization Dependent Loss (PDL). A 0.2 dB Wavelength Dependent Loss (WDL) is measured over 633-nm and 514-nm wavelengths. A 1 × 2 optical-fiber coupled switch version is also tested. The proposed switch can be useful in free-space laser systems as well as fiber-based modules.  相似文献
