A design is proposed and a resolving power is calculated for a detector that monitors the unauthorized transportation of high
Z materials (nuclear materials with Z > 90) using the natural cosmic-ray muon flux. The identification of nuclear materials is based on the strong dependence of
the multiple scattering angle on the matter charge upon traversing the matter by cosmic muons. It is proposed that chambers
assembled from drift aluminum tubes similar to chambers used in the muon system of the ATLAS detector be used as the coordinate
detector for the setup. The calculations show that the proposed variant of the setup makes it possible to detect the presence

The increase in luminosity and energy of the Large hadron collider (LHC) in the next upgrade (Phase-1) in 2018–2019 will lead to a significant increase in radiation load on the ATLAS detector, primarily in the areas close to the interaction point of the LHC proton beams. One of these regions is the Small Wheel of the ATLAS Muon Spectrometer. It is planned to be replaced with the New Small Wheel that will have Micromegas chambers as main coordinate detectors. A new type of measuring system, the Laser Reference Line, is proposed as a metrological tool and can be used within limited space to ensure a precise installation along an axis on the ATLAS interaction point. A simplified ATLAS like beam pipe mock-up is used for this test. The coordinates of the beam pipe are measured three times using the new method and a Total Station. The measurements agree within the measurement error of the Total Station, which indicates that the precision of the laser reference line is suitable for this specific task in the ATLAS experiment. 相似文献

An expression for the space charge limiting current of an electron beam in a vacuum coaxial drift chamber is obtained in the strong field approximation. The expression is an analogue of the Bogdankevich-Rukhadze interpolation formula for a cylindrical drift chamber. The space charge limiting currents in the coaxial and cylindrical chambers are compared. The space charge limiting current in the vacuum coaxial chamber is numerically calculated and compared to analytical predictions. 相似文献

A new device structure for high breakdown voltage and low specific on resistance of the LDMOS device is proposed in this paper. The main idea in the proposed structure is using omega shape channel. The benefits of omega shape channel could be determined by extending depletion region in the drift region that causes low specific on resistance. Also, uniform horizontal electric field would be achieved that results in high breakdown voltage. The proposed structure is called Omega-shape Channel LDMOS (OCH-LDMOS). The simulation with two dimensional ATLAS simulator shows that the breakdown voltage increases to 712 V from 243 V of the conventional LDMOS at 12 µm drift length. Also, effective values of doping, length, and depth of Ω-shape channel are investigated. 相似文献
