Abstract

The modified ray-optics method is used to analyze the coupling efficiency from a Gaussian beam to a rectangular multimode embedded strip waveguide. It is convenient for analyzing the case of a simple waveguide structure because of reduced computation time. The conditions for determining which optical rays can be coupled into the waveguide to become the waveguiding modes, as well as the effective receiving area of the waveguide, are derived in this work. The data obtained by this method are compared with those calculated by the well-known overlap integral theorem and Marcatili's models for investigating the validity of the modified ray-optics method.  相似文献

 理论分析了介质镀膜空芯光纤在THz频段的传输特性,得出了该光纤的特征方程及模式分布。利用射线光学原理计算了介质膜材料为聚酰亚胺、介质膜厚度为0.05 mm的光纤的衰减常数随介质膜内直径的变化情况。得出其主模在THz频段的衰减常数小于1 dB/m,该值远小于相同内径的金属圆波导在这一频段的衰减常数。模拟计算了介质膜厚度为0.05 mm、内径为1 mm,金属膜内径为1.05 mm的介质镀膜空芯光纤在0~1 THz的S参数,模拟结果显示该光纤在THz频段有很宽的通带,且在通带内衰减常数小于0.5 dB/m,可用于THz频段电磁波远距离传输。  相似文献

We introduce a modified surface plasmonic waveguide with an arc slot. The dependences of distribution of energy flux density, effective index, propagation length and mode area of the symmetric mode supported by this waveguide on geometrical parameters and working wavelength are analysed by using the finite-difference frequency-domain (FDFD) method. Results show that the energy flux density distributes mainly in four corners which are formed by two arcs, and the closer to the corners it is, the stronger the energy flux density will be. The effective index, the propagation length and the mode area are influenced by geometrical parameters, including the width, the thickness and the arc radius of the surface plasmonic waveguide, as well as the working wavelength. It has been shown that the surface plasmonic waveguide with an arc slot has better propagation properties than the surface plasmonic waveguide with a straight slot. This work may be helpful for applying the slot surface plasmonic waveguide to integrated photonics.  相似文献

对近轴近似条件下求解亥姆霍兹方程得到的高斯光束显式传播公式做了分析,同时,基于基尔霍夫衍射理论,在菲涅耳近似的条件下给出了相应的高斯光束在远场的传播公式,在此基础上,对近轴近似条件做出了定量分析,给出了这个近似条件引入的误差,提出了一种计算高斯光束远场分布的修正方法,并采用有限差分-光束传播方法(FD-BPM)来检验各种方法的准确性。把这种修正方法应用到平面光集成波导器件,如阵列波导光栅(AWG)、蚀刻衍射光栅(EDG)等器件的设计和模拟中,可以大大降低工作的复杂性,同时可以得到精确的结果。  相似文献

A modified resonance theory of waveguide circulator with ferrite specimen is presented. The kernal of this theory is a two-step analysis method of an H-plane Y-junction waveguide circulator. For the first step, the ferrite specimens of Y-junction waveguide circulators are treated as if it were dielectric resonators with no magnetic bias. This simplistic approach is used to design the ferrite specimens of the circulators. Simple formulas are developed for determining the center frequency of the circulators. For the second step, wave circulation is made possible when a pair of degenerate resonance modes experiences different changes when the ferrite specimens are being magnetized. A modified analysis of joint resonance theory and simple field theory is advanced to evaluate the performances of the circulators. Good agreements between the analytically obtained performance and experimental result of various MMW waveguide circulators are observed.  相似文献

We propose a novel photonic crystal slab waveguide that provides a single-mode band with large bandwidth. The proposed waveguide is obtained by introducing a line defect in a triangular lattice of air holes in a dielectric slab. This line defect consists of holes which are not located in the original lattice points. The plane wave expansion (PWE) method is used to extract the band diagram of guiding modes and based on the results, photonic crystal holes in the defect row and its adjacent rows are modified to maximize the waveguide bandwidth. We show that using the proposed structure, a single-mode bandwidth of 17% can be achieved.  相似文献

The bi-directional mode expansion propagation algorithm (BEP) is known to be an accurate and efficient method for modelling field distribution in high-index contrast waveguide structures with strong back-reflections like Bragg gratings and photonic crystals. The main difficulty of this method is that for lossy structures, the propagation constants of modes are to be searched in the complex plane. To speed-up this procedure, a two-step algorithm for eigenmode calculation based on the expansion into the modes of an empty metallic waveguide has recently been proposed. Proper truncation rules possessing good convergence of the expansion method for both TE and TM modes have also been recently published. In this contribution, both these approaches are combined in the development of an extremely simple version of the two-dimensional BEP method that makes use of the field expansion into the eigenmodes of a parallel-plate waveguide. The method is strictly reciprocal and appeared to be computationally reliable also for strongly lossy structures. High numerical stability is ensured using the scattering matrix formalism, and an efficient method of calculating Bloch modes for symmetric as well as asymmetric periodic waveguide structures is adopted. A wide range of applicability of the method is demonstrated by a few examples.  相似文献

We propose a new type of arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) multiplexer/demultiplexer based on modified group refractive index. This device is composed by an array of straight and parallel waveguides of equal length and each waveguide consist of two sections with different width. The length of the two sections are changed from a waveguide to the adjacent one following a linear dependence resulting in a wavelength dispersive waveguide array. An example of the device design for silicon-on-insulator (SOI) platform is provided and numerical simulations have been carried out for various arrayed waveguide parameters. We demonstrate that the group index modification can be used for tailoring device dispersion properties, and that it can also result in new dispersion characteristics predicted numerically not observed in conventional AWGs. Additional advantages are that the demultiplexer does not necessarily require bending waveguide sections as in a conventional AWG (de)multiplexers, and thus yields highly compact devices with potentially very low insertion loss. Channel spacing of 1 nm have been predicted for sub-micron waveguides sizes. In this paper it is also proposed a novel wavefront converter based on waveguide array lens-like element with waveguides broadened sections. Numerical results for different input/output geometries are analized.  相似文献

 提出了一种数值分析同轴线-矩形波导结散射特性的模式匹配方法。采用同轴线和矩形波导的本征模函数表示电磁场分量,通过同轴线-矩形波导结截面横向场分量匹配获得波导结的散射参数,引入电场模式匹配矩阵的解析形式提高了计算效率。给出了基于模式匹配法数值仿真的各种同轴线-矩形波导结散射特性及仿真结果分析,并与3维全电磁波分析软件HFSS的仿真结果进行了比较,二者非常吻合。模式匹配法计算效率高,能广泛应用于微波毫米波元器件及系统结构的设计与优化。  相似文献

在耦合波理论的基础上,结合波导渐变曲线给出了普适高阶渐变波导设计方法,研究了95 GHz回旋管内置 TE03模式改进Dolph-Chebychev渐变波导。采用编制的数值计算程序进行优化,得到了可靠的最优几何参量,设计出了紧凑的95 GHz渐变波导。经全电磁场仿真验证,该内置渐变输出结构对杂模的抑制达30 dB,满足设计要求。回旋管的热测实验中测出的模式样图表明,所设计的内置渐变波导有效地实现了回旋管内径变化。该方法可以高效地指导高阶过模圆波导渐变结构的设计。  相似文献

In this study, a competent numerical strategy to compute the dispersion of optical waveguides is presented and propagation of electromagnetic waves in a coaxial optical waveguide with DB boundary conditions is instigated. For this intend, cylindrical coordinates are here being used to derive the DB boundary conditions and to obtain field components for the modes. The propagation constant for the waveguide to be studied is determined by solving the Bessel and the modified Bessel functions. The cutoff frequencies for various lower order modes have been calculated and their dispersion characteristics are plotted correspondingly. The behavior of the coaxial optical waveguide under DB boundary conditions is shown to be significantly different from that of coaxial optical waveguide and conventional optical waveguide under traditional or tangential boundary conditions. Finally, the effect of waveguide dimensions on the mode cutoff frequencies and fabrication issues are also addressed.  相似文献

To improve the coupling effciency between fibers and conventional Ti:LiNbO3 diffused channel waveguides, it is feasible that the elliptical mode pattern of the channel waveguide can be modified by the Ti/Mg double diffusion method. By means of the three-dimensional beam propagation method, we successfully show that the mode size of the waveguide fabricated by this method is well matched to that of the fiber for TE and TM polarizations separately.  相似文献

The bending efficiency of three-dimensional bent multiple-slot waveguides is studied by applying a combined method of effective-index and modified transfer-matrix methods. The effects of asymmetric structure, asymmetric slots, and asymmetric middle strips on the bending efficiency are investigated. We show that the bending efficiency can be improved by the use of asymmetric structures and asymmetric middle strips. The bending efficiency of different slot waveguides (up to quintuple-slot structure) is compared. It is revealed that although the single-slot waveguide in general provides the lowest bending loss for the same waveguide parameters, it is possible that the multiple-slot waveguide can present a lower bending loss than the single-slot one.  相似文献

In this paper the complex-image approximation to the reflection coefficient for water over a seabed half-space is used to generate an image representation for a bounded acoustic waveguide with an underlying layered seabed. The images are true point sources; they have constant amplitudes which are raypath independent and, in the case of a Pekeris waveguide, frequency-independent. This image representation is ideal for constructing the Green's function kernel of the boundary integral equation method for target scattering in a waveguide. The singular behavior of the Green's function for an infinitesimal source/receiver separation, possibly with the target adjacent to one of the interfaces, is modeled correctly and the image expansion has a simple analytic form which can be analytically differentiated. The method is also accurate for significant source/receiver separations, which means that it can be used in the modeling of scattering from large-sized objects and can also be used as an efficient and accurate short-range propagation model for harmonic and broadband propagation in a penetrable waveguide.  相似文献

In this paper, by virtue of symbolic computation, the investigation is made on a generalized variable-coefficient higher-order nonlinear Schrödinger equation with varying higher-order effects and gain or loss, which can describe the femtosecond optical pulse propagation in a monomode dielectric waveguide. A modified dependent variable transformation is introduced into the bilinear method to transform such an equation into a variable-coefficient bilinear form. Based on the formal parameter expansion technique, the multi-soliton solutions of this equation are obtained through the bilinear form under sets of parametric constraints. A Bäcklund transformation in bilinear form is also obtained for the first time in this paper. Finally, discussions on the analytic soliton solutions are given and various propagation situations are illustrated.  相似文献

渐变折射率分布的光波导分析对光波导器件的设计和研究至关重要, 近年来已提出了多种分析方法, 然而在简便性或准确性上都存在着不足. 为此, 提出了一种分析渐变折射率分布光波导的方法, 能够结合现有的Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin近似法和离散化的波动方程, 构建模场分布, 再结合变分运算方程和修正的模式本征方程, 计算出较为精确的有效折射率. 与其他分析方法相比, 该方法较为简单, 而且有一定的精度.  相似文献

A two-dimensional photonic crystal coupled-cavity waveguide is designed and optimized, the transmission spectrum is calculated by using the finite-difference time-domain method, and the group velocity of c/1856 is obtained. To our knowledge, this value of group velocity is the lowest group velocity in a photonic crystal waveguide calculated from its transmission spectrum so far. The result is confirmed by the photonic band structure calculated by using the plane wave expansion method, and it is found that the photonic crystal waveguide modes in a photonic band structure are in accordance with those in the transmission spectrum by using the finite-difference time-domain method. The mechanism of slow light in the coupled-cavity waveguide of photonic crystal is analysed.  相似文献

We report on the fabrication and modal property studies of planar waveguide structure in x-cut bismuth borate biaxial crystal formed by He ion implantation with triple energies. The prism coupling method is used to measure the effective refractive indices of this waveguide. We reconstruct the refractive index distribution of this waveguide by the reflectivity calculation method. Our results indicate that a broadened optical barrier is produced by the multiple He ion implantations. The so-called tunneling effect of the non-stationary mode in this type of barrier waveguide is presented by the well-known finite difference beam propagation method.  相似文献
