Polymers synthesized from naturally derived monomers are valuable since they decrease the reliance on petroleum based feed stocks. Cashew nut shell oil (CNSL) is a side-product from processing of edible Cashew nuts of Annacardium occidentale. One of the major components of CNSL is cardanol, which is a phenol derivative having an unsaturated pentadecyl substituent in the ‘meta’ position with varying amount of unsaturation (no double bonds to three double bonds). The substituent in the meta position can also be hydrogenated to yield completely saturated hydrogenated cardanol. Cardanol can be utilized to stabilize the dispersions of oil in water and vice versa since it displays amphiphilic behavior owing to the phenolic head and the C15 aliphatic tail. Here we report the horseradish peroxidase (HRP) catalyzed polymerization of cardanol at oil water interface to obtain polycardanol microcapsules. A synthetic analogue of hydrogenated cardanol, 3-pentadecylphenol (3PDP), was also oxidatively polymerized at the oil-water interface to obtain Poly(3-pentadecylphenol) microcapsules.  相似文献

Abstract

At present we have strong evidence that several members of a series of wholly-aromatic, para-linked, rodlike polyamides, polyesters, and polyesteramides form molecular composites with certain flexible-chain, thermoplastic polymers over a wide range of compositions. This paper reports on the initial results of an investigation of intermolecular interactions using spectroscopy and various scattering techniques as well as characterization of some of the mechanical and optical properties of these materials. The composites are made by two techniques: 1) photo-polymerization of a homogeneous solution of a rodlike polymer in a monomer containing a photoinitiation; 2) solvent evaporation from homogeneous solutions of very limited combinations of solvent, rodlike polymers and flexible polymers. While both of these techniques produce optically clear, nonscattering films of various thicknesses over the entire compositional range, e.g., 1–99 wt% of rodlike polymer, the latter is generally more convenient and has been used extensively in this study. Optical and electron microscopy, wide angle light scattering, and spectroscopic and thermal analysis support the view that these polymer combinations are truly molecularly dispersed.  相似文献

The corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 0.5 M sulphuric acid by aqueous and acid extracts of leaves of Morinda tinctoria was studied using weight loss, colorimetric and electrochemical techniques. Results obtained indicate that both the extracts are effective in sulphuric acid medium and the efficiency decreases with increase in temperature. Added halide additives improve the efficiency of the inhibitor. From the thermodynamic, spectral, and surface analyses, the nature of adsorption has been found out.  相似文献

In chronic wounds, elevated human neutrophil elastase (HNE) is a destructive protease that has been proposed as a biomarker. Numerous wound dressing designs have been introduced in an effort to lower HNE levels. The clinical detection of HNE as a point of care biomarker or an in situ colorimetric adjuvant to chronic wound dressings presents potential advantages in the management of chronic wounds. A colorimetric approach to the detection of HNE using peptide conjugated cotton cellulose nanocrystals (CCN) is reported here. For this purpose a HNE tripeptide substrate, n-Succinyl-Alanine–Alanine-Valine-para-nitroanilide (Suc-Ala–Ala-Val-pNA), was covalently attached to glycine esterified CCN and compared with a similar tetrapeptide analog for colorimetric HNE sensor activity. Visible HNE activity was significantly higher on CCN tripeptide conjugates when compared with similar analogs synthesized on paper. Upon enzymatic release of para-nitroaniline (pNA) from the Glycine-CCN conjugate of succinyl-Ala–Ala-Val-pNA, amplification of the colorimetric response from pNA with reactive dyes enhanced visible absorption of the chromogen. Two color amplifying dyes that react with pNA were compared for their ability to enhance the visual sensor response to HNE activity. The colorimetric detection of HNE with CCN tripeptide conjugates was sensitive at HNE levels previously reported in chronic wound fluid (0.05 U/mL HNE). The HNE sensor and the chromogen amplifying dyes were interfaced with 50 and 10 kD dialysis cellulose membranes (DCM) to model filtration of HNE and chromogen (pNA) from a model wound dressing surface before and after sensor reactivity. The detection sensitivity to HNE activity was assessed with the CCN-tripeptide conjugate interfaced at the DCM surface distal and proximal to a dressing surface. The HNE sensor interfaced proximal to the dressing surface was most efficient with 10 kD membrane filtration of pNA and subsequent reaction with amplifying dyes. When interfaced with the 10 kD cellulose membrane, elastase sensor activity remained sensitive to 0.05 U/mL HNE. The nanocellulose surface properties, performance and design issues of the biosensor approach are discussed.  相似文献

The compressive response of fully dense and 10 vol% porous Ti2AlC MAX phase materials subjected to quasi-static uniaxial and cyclic loading including their repeatable hysteretic behavior is presented. Damage accumulation in the form of kink bands and microcracking is characterized using ultrasonics and scanning electron microscopy under different levels of compressive loading. The observations and measurements are correlated quantitatively using a model based on friction between the crack faces, which is the main dissipation process. The model is shown to capture the hysteretic behavior of Ti2AlC MAX phase and quantitatively reproduce the experimentally measured stress–strain curves.  相似文献

A normalized univalent function f is called Ma-Minda starlike or convex if zf(z)/f(z)?φ(z) or 1+zf(z)/f(z)?φ(z) where φ is a convex univalent function with φ(0)=1. The class of Ma-Minda convex functions is shown to be closed under certain operators that are generalizations of previously studied operators. Lithium (Li) and magnesium (Mg) co-doped zinc oxide (ZnO) thin films were deposited by sol–gel method using spin coating technique. The films were deposited on glass substrates and annealed at different temperatures. The effects of annealing temperature on the structural, optical and electrical properties of the deposited films were investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Ultraviolet–Visible absorption spectra (UV–VIS), photoluminescence spectra (PL), X-ray photo electron spectroscopy (XPS) and Hall measurements. XRD patterns indicated that the deposited films had a polycrystalline hexagonal wurtzite structure with preferred (0 0 0 2) orientation. All films were found to exhibit a good transparency in the visible range. Analysis of the absorption edge revealed that the optical band gap energies of the films annealed at different temperatures varies between 3.49 eV and 3.69 eV. Room temperature PL spectra of the deposited films annealed at various temperatures consist of a near band edge emission and visible emission due to the electronic defects, which are related to deep level emissions, such as oxide antisite (OZn), interstitial zinc (Zni), interstitial oxygen (Oi) and zinc vacancy (VZn) which are generated during annealing process. The influence of annealing temperature on the chemical state of the dopants in the film was analysed by XPS spectra. Ion beam analysis (Rutherford back scattering) experiments were performed to evaluate the content of Li and Mg in the films. Hall measurements confirmed the p-type nature of the deposited films.  相似文献
