The theoretical equations for friction coefficients of spheres having sticky or hairy surfaces are presented. In the present treatment, the sticky surface is represented by a higher viscosity of fluid in the surface layer and the hairy surface is assumed to have a porous structure. The friction coefficients are given as functions of the thickness of the surface layer, the fluid viscosity in the surface layer and the segmental density of hairy chains.  相似文献

We study the dynamics of a Brownian particle in a 1D external potential under the influence of a time-periodic bias with an amplitude small with respect to the potential barriers. We consider both a periodic potential corresponding to a smooth crystal surface and a regular array of steps with an extra Ehrlich–Schwoebel barrier for step crossing. For the smooth surface, we extend our previous work in the high friction limit to the low friction case and find that the oscillating bias enhances the diffusion coefficient DT due to the broadening of the jump length distribution. In the case of a stepped surface with terraces of length L, the bias induces a non-zero average current Jave in the direction of descending steps as long as the driving frequency is smaller than a threshold frequency ΩTL−1. The current shows a maximum as a function of temperature for fixed L. However, no evidence of stochastic resonance type of enhancement can be found either in DT or Jave.  相似文献

We propose a simple friction model for isolated polymer chains on a solid substrate. The chains are pulled at constant velocity by one end, the other end can be trapped on the solid substrate on localised sites. We focus on the energy dissipation due to the traps. This simple model leads to nontrivial friction laws, depending on the velocity and the distance between traps. Some refinements of the model such as the effect of thermal fluctuations are also reported. Received 20 March 2000  相似文献

We report on the frictional properties of a single contact between a glassy polymer lens and a flat silica substrate covered either by a disordered or by a self-assembled alkylsilane monolayer. We find that, in contrast to a widely spread belief, the Amontons proportionality between frictional and normal stresses does not hold. Besides, we observe that the velocity dependence of the sliding stress is strongly sensitive to the structure of the silane layer. Analysis of the frictional rheology observed on both disordered and self-assembled monolayers suggests that dissipation is controlled by the plasticity of a glass-like interfacial layer in the former case, and by pinning of polymer chains on the substrate in the latter one.  相似文献

The dynamic and lubrication characteristic analyses of the crankshaft–bearing system is quite a complex problem, and it is important to avoid asperity contact which may lead to bearing wear and increase of friction loss significantly in dynamic lubrication condition. In this paper, the dynamic characteristic that has an essential impact on lubrication was investigated over an inline six-cylinder engine. Multi-body dynamics method, tribology, finite element method (FEM), finite difference method (FDM) and component mode synthesis method (CMS) were combined to analyze the dynamic characteristic of crankshaft, oil leakage, oil film pressure, asperity contact pressure and friction loss. Then the orthogonal experiment that included 5 levels and 6 factors was conducted to obtain the training sample sets for neural network, and the probabilistic neural network (PNN) was employed to identify weather the asperity contact happened or not according to its nonlinear characteristic. The analyses which can provide the guidance for the design of main bearing, and avoid the asperity contact in the lubrication are significant to the design of the bearing at the development stage of the engine.  相似文献

This paper investigates the two-dimensional sliding frictional contact of a piezoelectric half-plane in the plane strain state under the action of a rigid flat or a triangular punch. It is assumed that the punch is a perfect electrical conductor with a constant electric potential. By using the Fourier integral transform technique and the superposition theorem, the problem is reduced to a pair of coupled Cauchy singular integral equations and then is numerically solved to determine the unknown contact pressure and surface electric charge distribution. The effects of the friction coefficient and electro-mechanical loads on the normal contact stress, normal electric displacement, in-plane stress and in-plane electric displacement are discussed in detail. It is found that the friction coefficient has a significant effect on the electro-mechanical sliding frictional contact behaviors of the piezoelectric materials.  相似文献

This review provides an overview of recent advances that have been achieved in understanding the basic physics of friction and energy dissipation in molecularly thin adsorbed films and the associated impact on friction at microscopic and macroscopic length scales. Topics covered include a historical overview of the fundamental understanding of macroscopic friction, theoretical treatments of phononic and electronic energy dissipation mechanisms in thin films, and current experimental methods capable of probing such phenomena. Measurements performed on adsorbates sliding in unconfined geometries with the quartz crystal microbalance technique receive particular attention. The final sections review the experimental literature of how measurements of sliding friction in thin films reveal energy dissipation mechanisms and how the results can be linked to film-spreading behavior, lubrication, film phase transitions, superconductivity-dependent friction, and microelectromechanical systems applications. Materials systems reported on include adsorbed films comprised of helium, neon, argon, krypton, xenon, water, oxygen, nitrogen, carbon monoxide, ethane, ethanol, trifluoroethanol, methanol, cyclohexane, ethylene, pentanol, toluene, tricresylphosphate, t-butylphenyl phosphate, benzene, and iodobenzene. Substrates reported on include silver, gold, aluminum, copper, nickel, lead, silicon, graphite, graphene, fullerenes, C60, diamond, carbon, diamond-like carbon, and YBa2Cu3O7, and self-assembled monolayers consisting of tethered polymeric molecules.  相似文献

The ejection of DNA molecules from carbon nanotubes is reported from interaction energy perspectives by molecular dynamics simulations. The critical ejection energy, which is to be applied to a DNA molecule for a successful ejection from a carbon nanotube, is investigated based on a study on the friction and binding energy between the DNA molecule and the tube. An effective ejection is realized by subjecting a kinetic energy on the DNA molecule that is larger than the solved critical ejection energy. In addition, the relationship between ejection energies and sizes of DNA molecules and carbon nanotubes is investigated.  相似文献

A sliding sharp edge penetrating material is one of the most dangerous cases of cutting because it requires the smallest applied load. A better understanding of the cutting mechanism is a fundamental step to develop new and more performing protective materials. This study aims at analyzing cutting mechanics and mechanism in the presence of friction. The International Standard ISO 13997 cut test method consists in measuring the distance that a straight blade slides horizontally to cut through a material under a constant applied normal force and was used to investigate cutting phenomena. In practice, cut resistance of a material is contributed by the intrinsic strength of material and the frictional distribution. Two types of friction distributions are involved in cutting: a macroscopic friction induced by the gripping of the material and by the applied normal load on the two sides of the blade; and the other the sliding friction associated with cut through of the material that occurs along the face of the blade tip. For most materials, frictional forces due to lateral gripping could be several times greater than the friction due to the applied normal force. Thus, the cutting energy required for breaking molecular chains is much smaller than the energy dissipated for friction. The elastic modulus, the structure of the material as well as the sliding velocity have significant influence on the friction. Therefore all these properties can affect the cutting resistance results.  相似文献
