We describe novel physics of nonlinear magnetoinductive waves in left-handed composite metamaterials. We derive the coupled equations for describing the propagation of magnetoinductive waves, and show that in the nonlinear regime the magnetic response of a metamaterial may become bistable. We analyze modulational instability of different nonlinear states, and also demonstrate that nonlinear metamaterials may support the propagation of domain walls (kinks) connecting the regions with the positive and negative magnetization.  相似文献

We present theoretical and experimental results for a new design of highly symmetric, multigap split-ring resonators (SRRs), as well as for left-handed materials of a broad and high transmittance left-handed band, achieved by combining those symmetric SRRs with continuous wires. Studying in detail, both theoretically and experimentally, our proposed symmetric SRRs, we proved that they avoid the electric field excitation of the magnetic SRR resonance; thus they are appropriate for the creation of two-dimensional and three-dimensional left-handed materials. Finally, we propose critical design rules for the development of low-loss and broad-band left-handed materials.  相似文献

理论和实验研究表明,开口谐振环(SRRs)中可以激励磁谐振从而实现负磁导率.通过在SRRs结构中引入与其开口边平行的金属短杆设计并制备了新的磁谐振单元,采用波导法系统研究了短杆对SRRs和左手材料的微波透射特性以及左手效应的影响.实验和数值模拟表明:金属短杆和SRRs开口边形成附加电容,导致SRRs开口电容增大从而引起谐振频率降低.随短杆长度l和短杆与SRRs间距d的增大,SRRs谐振频率也随之减小和增加.短杆的加入不影响SRRs的负磁导率特性,改变短杆与SRRs间距d< 关键词: 开口谐振环 金属短杆 调控 左手材料  相似文献

从理论及数值上研究了左手材料与传统非线性材料界面处的电磁波性质。发现在界面处出现一种新的现象——光学双稳态。入射光强、入射角以及左手材料与非线性材料的磁导率比值强烈的影响光学双稳态的行为。比较了不同的电磁模式对双稳态行为的影响。结果表明在相同的参数下,TE模式比TM模式更容易获得光学双稳态。  相似文献

通过实验及仿真研究了三角谐振环组合新型六边形谐振环金属线复合周期结构左手材料.仿真研究了以金属铜三角开口谐振环(SRRs)为基本单元的周期结构负磁导率材料,与闭口环(CSRRs)结果对比发现三角开口谐振环能产生很好的谐振效果即能产生负磁导率,并且多层单元仿真发现多个谐振环耦合能提高谐振频率并加宽谐振频段;设计、制作并实验和仿真研究了三角开口环为基本单元的六边形谐振环金属线复合周期结构左手材料,仿真结果在98GHz附近出现良好负折射效应,实验验证在93—108 GHz出现良好负折射效应,与仿真结果具有良好的一致性.该研究对新型周期结构左手材料的研究、设计和研制具有重要的科学意义和应用前景. 关键词: 左手材料 三角环组成的六边形谐振环 负折射  相似文献

针对电磁波在非线性左手系材料中的传播性质, 分别研究了左、右手系材料界面以及两左手系材料界面上非线性TE表面波的传播行为讨论了导波的频率特性、色散关系以及群速度随频率的变化规律分析表明,两种界面上的非线性TE表面波均存在频率通带和禁带,且带宽是传播功率的函数揭示了在一定条件下,左、右手系材料界面上既可以支持正向传播的非线性TE表面波,也可以支持反向传播的非线性TE表面波;两左手系材料界面上表面波的传播性质因材料参量的变化差异较大,一定参量条件下,该界面上仅支持反向传播的非线性TE表面波.  相似文献

We report true left-handed (LH) behavior in a composite metamaterial consisting of a periodically arranged split ring resonator (SRR) and wire structures. We demonstrate the magnetic resonance of the SRR structure by comparing the transmission spectra of SRRs with those of closed SRRs. We have confirmed experimentally that the effective plasma frequency of the LH material composed of SRRs and wires is lower than the plasma frequency of the wires. A well-defined LH transmission band with a peak value of -1.2 dB (-0.3 dB/cm) was obtained. The experimental results agree extremely well with the theoretical calculations.  相似文献

We study the bistable and negative lateral shifts of the reflected light beam from Kretschmann configuration containing left-handed metamaterials with self-focusing and self-defocusing Kerr-type nonlinearity. It is shown that the lateral shifts can be large and negative when the thickness of the middle metal film is smaller than the critical value. Taking the nonlinear effect into account, there exists a hysteretic response between the beam shift and the intensity of the incident light beam. These results suggest that the bistable and negative beam shifts can be modulated by nonlinear coefficients and intensity of incident beam, which might be used in integrated photonics and optical switches.  相似文献

We analyze the transmission and reflection data obtained through transfer matrix calculations on metamaterials of finite lengths, to determine their effective permittivity epsilon and permeability micro. Our study concerns metamaterial structures composed of periodic arrangements of wires, cut wires, split ring resonators (SRRs), closed SRRs, and both wires and SRRs. We find that the SRRs have a strong electric response, equivalent to that of cut wires, which dominates the behavior of left-handed materials (LHM). Analytical expressions for the effective parameters of the different structures are given, which can be used to explain the transmission characteristics of LHMs. Of particular relevance is the criterion introduced by our studies to identify if an experimental transmission peak is left or right handed.  相似文献

 分析了非线性左手材料模型,推导了非线性左手材料中的时域有限差分法及完美匹配层的计算式。数值模拟了具有Kerr非线性效应的左手材料平板中的电磁波。观察到该材料同样具有电磁聚焦特性。对比线性左手材料,其聚焦点的幅度和位置都会发生偏移。同时改变波源的强度及其到平板边界距离,讨论了不同距离情况下该非线性左手材料平板对电磁波分布的影响。当波源距离材料平板足够远,通过非线性左手材料聚焦的电场强度几乎集中在其外表面。  相似文献

研究了一维Bragg微腔中的光学增强效应,并对F-P腔中Kerr介质的双稳态特性进行了理论分析,并得到相应的数学表达式.研究表明,对聚焦型Kerr介质(χ(3)>0),要产生双稳态特性必须给入射光波预置一定的红移量,若是散焦型介质(χ(3)<0)则要预置一定的蓝移量.红移量(或蓝移量)的临界值与光子晶体的介质折射率、周期数、F-P腔长度、缺陷模的线宽(FWHM)等因素密切相关,它随介质折射率比、周期数、F-P腔长的增大而减小,随缺陷模的线形变窄而降低.要有效地降低非线性介质的双稳态开关阈值,除了尽可能选择较小的合适红移(或蓝移)量外,还要选择|χ(3)|较大的Kerr介质以增强腔内的非线性光学效应.  相似文献

Based on the nonlinear coupled mode theory, by using the reversely recursive transmission matrix method, the switching characteristics of linearly chirped nonlinear Bragg gratings (LC-NLBG) have been investigated numerically. The results show that, introducing spatial chirp in fiber gratings is helpful to widen the bistable wavelength range, and the influence of the chirp on the switching-on threshold and the on-off ratio of the bistable switching are obvious, the chirp-dependent bistability is due to the difference of the axial distribution of forward wave intensity in the gratings.  相似文献

提出了磁光光纤Bragg光栅的理论模型,给出了圆偏振光在磁光光纤光栅中传播的非线性耦合模方程. 研究表明,在磁光光纤Bragg光栅中,光栅引起正反传播方向的导波光发生耦合,法拉第效应引起磁圆双折射效应,而非线性效应则将左旋和右旋圆偏振光耦合在一起,它们的共同作用可使双稳态状态发生反转、非线性光控光开关阈值功率降低. 与传统光纤光栅相比,利用左旋和右旋磁圆偏振光之间的交叉相位调制实现的脉冲整形具有磁光偏置可调特性,为基于磁光光纤光栅的动态灵活全光3R再生器的研制提供了理论基础. 关键词: 磁光光纤Bragg光栅 圆偏振光 脉冲整形  相似文献

The polarization curve of an acid-base interface in a hydrogel medium has a diode characteristic. Two of each such electrolyte diodes can be combined to give an electrolyte transistor. When a salt is added to the alkaline or to the acidic part of a reverse biased electrolyte diode, the current response is highly nonlinear. If the salt is added to the acidic side, even bistability can be observed. This bistability can generate complex oscillations in a base-acid-base electrolyte transistor. These nonlinear effects are studied experimentally and theoretically. While the nonlinear salt effect can be explained with the Nernst-Planck equations, to understand the bistable behavior further investigations are necessary. We present the exact results on optical bistability (including angular and frequency bistabilities) with surface polaritons in layered structures containing left-handed metallic magnetic composite (MMC). The bistable behaviors of the reflected field are revealed for the Kretschmann and Sarid geometries, respectively. The results show that the properties of the angular and frequency bistabilities are quite similar, namely, the optical bistability with the surface polaritons can occur only when the angle or frequency detunings and the substrate’s nonlinear coefficient have the same sign. For the Kretschmann geometry, the surface polaritons can exist in the pass band due to the negative refraction effect. In the Sarid geometry, the excitation of the long-range surface polaritons in the stop band results in a lower optical bistability threshold compared with the Kretschmann geometry. The above conclusions are valid only for the frequency range where the MMC is left-handed.  相似文献

We study numerically the temporal and spatial dynamics of light in Bragg gratings in highly nonlinear photonic crystal fibre for a CW input signal. Our numerical model is based on the plane wave mode solver and a set of nonlinear coupled-mode equations which we solve using a variation of implicit fourth order Runge-Kutta method. We observe not only bistability of the intensity versus transmitted and reflected light but also complex dynamics. We demonstrate that for values of input intensity above the bistable region the steady state may undergo a supercritical Hopf bifurcation. For some ranges of the input intensity we also observe a coexistence of two periodic attractors. The dynamics found, in particular the features in the bifurcation diagram, strongly depend on the parameters of the fibre. Consequently, we suggest that by proper design of the photonic crystal in the cladding we can adjust such nonlinear features of the Bragg gratings as the width of the bistable region, the intensity at which the bifurcation occurs and also the characteristics of the dynamics at high values of input intensity.  相似文献
