In this paper, the totally non-positive matrix is introduced. The totally non-positive completion asks which partial totally non-positive matrices have a completion to a totally non-positive matrix. This problem has. in general, a negative answer. Therefore, our question is for what kind of labeled graphs G each partial totally non-positive matrix whose associated graph is G has a totally non-positive completion? If G is not a monotonically labeled graph or monotonically labeled cycle, we give necessary and sufficient conditions that guarantee the existence of the desired completion.  相似文献

An edge e of a k-connected graph G is said to be a removable edge if G O e is still k-connected, where G e denotes the graph obtained from G by deleting e to get G - e, and for any end vertex of e with degree k - 1 in G- e, say x, delete x, and then add edges between any pair of non-adjacent vertices in NG-e (x). The existence of removable edges of k-connected graphs and some properties of 3-connected and 4-connected graphs have been investigated [1, 11, 14, 15]. In the present paper, we investigate some properties of 5-connected graphs and study the distribution of removable edges on a cycle and a spanning tree in a 5- connected graph. Based on the properties, we proved that for a 5-connected graph G of order at least 10, if the edge-vertex-atom of G contains at least three vertices, then G has at least (3│G│ + 2)/2 removable edges.  相似文献

The cutwidth problem for a graph G is to embed G into a path such that the maximum number of overlap edges is minimized. This paper presents an approach based on the degree sequence of G for determining the exact value of cutwidth of typical graphs (e. g. , n-cube,cater-pillars). Relations between the cutwidth and other graph-theoretic parameters are studied as well.  相似文献

Let G be an edge-colored graph. The monochromatic tree partition problem is to find the minimum number of vertex disjoint monochromatic trees to cover the all vertices of G.In the authors' previous work,it has been proved that the problem is NP-complete and there does not exist any constant factor approximation algorithm for it unless P=NP.In this paper the authors show that for any fixed integer r≥5,if the edges of a graph G are colored by r colors, called an r-edge-colored graph, the problem remains NP-complete.Similar result holds for the monochromatic path(cycle)partition problem. Therefore,to find some classes of interesting graphs for which the problem can be solved in polynomial time seems interesting. A linear time algorithm for the monochromatic path partition problem for edge-colored trees is given.  相似文献

Abstract. Let G be a simple graph. The cyclic bandwidth sum problem is to determine a labeling of graph G in a cycle such that the total length of edges is as small as possible. In this paper, some upper and lower bounds on cyclic bandwidth sum of graphs are studied.  相似文献

The 2-step domination problem is to find a minimum vertex set D of a graph such that every vertex of the graph is either in D or at distance two from some vertex of D.In the present paper,by using a labeling method,we provide an O(m) time algorithm to solve the2-step domination problem on block graphs,a superclass of trees.  相似文献

In testing planarity of graphs, there are many criteria. The earliest one as known is the Kuratowski's theorem, then Whitney's,Maclane's, and so forth.Since the early sixties, people have begun researches on algorithms.Up to 1974,Hopcroft and Tarjan found an algorithm with a computing time being a linear function of the order of a graph. This is the linearity concerned here. This paper presents a new approach to the linearity by means of transforming the problem of testing planarity of a graph G into that of finding a spanning tree on another graph H,called an auxiliary graph of G,with the order of H being a linear function of that of G.And moreover,we can also make the size of H be a linear function of that of G.The whole procedure is based on the building up of a theory of linear equations on GF(2)related to G.  相似文献

The signless Laplacian matrix of a graph G is defined to be the sum of its adjacency matrix and degree diagonal matrix, and its eigenvalues are called Q-eigenvalues of G. A Q-eigenvalue of a graph G is called a Q-main eigenvalue if it has an eigenvector the sum of whose entries is not equal to zero. In this work, all trees, unicyclic graphs and bicyclic graphs with exactly two Q-main eigenvalues are determined.  相似文献

An edge e of a k-connected graph G is said to be a removable edge if G O e is still k-connected, where G O e denotes the graph obtained from G by the following way: deleting e to get G - e, and for any end vertex of e with degree k - 1 in G - e, say x, deleting x, and then adding edges between any pair of non-adjacent vertices in NG-e (x). The existence of removable edges of k-connected graphs and some properties of k-connected graphs have been investigated. In the present paper, we investigate the distribution of removable edges on a spanning tree of a k-connected graph (k ≥ 4).  相似文献

The authors recently defined a new graph invariant denoted by Ω(G) only in terms of a given degree sequence which is also related to the Euler characteristic. It has many important combinatorial applications in graph theory and gives direct information compared to the better known Euler characteristic on the realizability, connectedness, cyclicness, components, chords, loops etc. Many similar classification problems can be solved by means of Ω. All graphs G so that Ω(G) ≤-4 are shown to be disconnected, and if Ω(G) ≥-2, then the graph is potentially connected. It is also shown that if the realization is a connected graph and Ω(G) =-2, then certainly the graph should be a tree.Similarly, it is shown that if the realization is a connected graph G and Ω(G) ≥ 0, then certainly the graph should be cyclic. Also, when Ω(G) ≤-4, the components of the disconnected graph could not all be cyclic and if all the components of G are cyclic, then Ω(G) ≥ 0. In this paper, we study an extremal problem regarding graphs. We find the maximum number of loops for three possible classes of graphs. We also state a result giving the maximum number of components amongst all possible realizations of a given degree sequence.  相似文献

The skewness of a graph G, denoted by sk(G), is the minimum number of edges in G whose removal results in a planar graph. It is an important parameter that measures how close a graph is to planarity, and it is complementary, and computationally equivalent, to the Maximum Planar Subgraph Problem. For any connected graph G on p vertices and q edges with girth g, one can easily verify that sk(G) ≥π(G), where π(G) =[q-g/(g-2)(p-2)], and the graph G is said to be π-skew if equality holds. The concept of π-skew was first proposed by G.L.Chia and C.L.Lee.The π-skew graphs with girth 3 are precisely the graphs that contain a triangulation as a spanning subgraph. The purpose of this paper is to explore the properties of π-skew graphs. Some families of π-skew graphs are obtained by applying these properties, including join of two graphs, complete multipartite graphs and Cartesian product of two graphs. We also discuss the threshold for the existence of a spanning triangulation.Among other results some sufficient conditions regarding the regularity and size of a graph, which ensure a spanning triangulation, are given.  相似文献

A mixed graph means a graph containing both oriented edges and undirected edges. The nullity of the Hermitian-adjacency matrix of a mixed graph G, denoted by ηH(G),is referred to as the multiplicity of the eigenvalue zero. In this paper, for a mixed unicyclic graph G with given order and matching number, we give a formula on ηH(G), which combines the cases of undirected and oriented unicyclic graphs and also corrects an error in Theorem 4.2 of [Xueliang LI, Guihai YU. The skew-rank of oriented graphs. Sci. Sin. Math., 2015, 45:93-104(in Chinese)]. In addition, we characterize all the n-vertex mixed graphs with nullity n-3, which are determined by the spectrum of their Hermitian-adjacency matrices.  相似文献

The notion of w-density for the graphs with positive weights on vertices and nonnegative weights on edges is introduced. A weighted graph is called w-balanced if its w-density is no less than the w-density of any subgraph of it. In this paper,a good characterization of w-balanced weighted graphs is given. Applying this characterization ,many large w-balanced weighted graphs are formed by combining smaller ones. In the case where a graph is not w-balanced,a polynomial-time algorithm to find a subgraph of maximum w-density is proposed. It is shown that the w-density theory is closely related to the study of SEW(G,w) games.  相似文献

Let Г be a simple connected graph and let G be a group of automorphisms of Г. Г is said to be (G, 2)-arc transitive if G is transitive on the 2-arcs of Г. It has been shown that there exists a family of non-quasiprimitive (PSU3(q), 2)-arc transitive graphs where q = 2^3m with m an odd integer. In this paper we investigate the case where q is an odd prime power.  相似文献

The perfect matching polytope of a graph G is the convex hull of the incidence vectors of all perfect matchings in G. A graph is called perfect matching compact(shortly, PM-compact), if its perfect matching polytope has diameter one. This paper gives a complete characterization of simple PM-compact Hamiltonian bipartite graphs. We first define two families of graphs, called the H2C-bipartite graphs and the H23-bipartite graphs, respectively. Then we show that, for a simple Hamiltonian bipartite graph G with |V(G)| ≥ 6, G is PM-compact if and only if G is K3,3, or G is a spanning Hamiltonian subgraph of either an H2C-bipartite graph or an H23-bipartite graph.  相似文献

An r-uniform graph C is dense if and only if every proper subgraph G' of G satisfies λ(G') λ(G).,where λ(G) is the Lagrangian of a hypergraph G. In 1980's, Sidorenko showed that π(F), the Turán density of an γ-uniform hypergraph F is r! multiplying the supremum of the Lagrangians of all dense F-hom-free γ-uniform hypergraphs. This connection has been applied in the estimating Turán density of hypergraphs. When γ=2 the result of Motzkin and Straus shows that a graph is dense if and only if it is a complete graph. However, when r ≥ 3, it becomes much harder to estimate the Lagrangians of γ-uniform hypergraphs and to characterize the structure of all dense γ-uniform graphs. The main goal of this note is to give some sufficient conditions for3-uniform graphs with given substructures to be dense. For example, if G is a 3-graph with vertex set [t] and m edges containing [t-1]~(3),then G is dense if and only if m≥{t-2 3)+(t-2 2)+1. We also give a sufficient condition on the number of edges for a 3-uniform hypergraph containing a large clique minus 1 or 2 edges to be dense.  相似文献

The first problem considered in this article reads: is it possible to find upper estimates for the spanning tree congestion in bipartite graphs, which are better than those for general graphs? It is proved that there exists a bipartite version of the known graph with spanning tree congestion of order n 3 2 , where n is the number of vertices. The second problem is to estimate spanning tree congestion of random graphs. It is proved that the standard model of random graphs cannot be used to find graphs whose spanning tree congestion has order greater than n 3 2 .  相似文献

Let G be a finite group. A Cayley graph over G is a simple graph whose automorphism group has a regular subgroup isomorphic to G. A Cayley graph is called a CI-graph(Cayley isomorphism) if its isomorphic images are induced by automorphisms of G. A well-known result of Babai states that a Cayley graph Γ of G is a CI-graph if and only if all regular subgroups of Aut(Γ) isomorphic to G are conjugate in Aut(Γ). A semi-Cayley graph(also called bi-Cayley graph by some authors) over G is a simple graph whose automorphism group has a semiregular subgroup isomorphic to G with two orbits(of equal size). In this paper, we introduce the concept of SCI-graph(semi-Cayley isomorphism)and prove a Babai type theorem for semi-Cayley graphs. We prove that every semi-Cayley graph of a finite group G is an SCI-graph if and only if G is cyclic of order 3. Also, we study the isomorphism problem of a special class of semi-Cayley graphs.  相似文献

A graph r is said to be G-semisymmetric if it is regular and there exists a subgroup G of A := Aut(Г) acting transitively on its edge set but not on its vertex set. In the case of G. = A, we call r a semisymmetric graph. The aim of this paper is to investigate (G-)semisymmetric graphs of prime degree. We give a group-theoretical construction of such graphs, and give a classification of semisymmetric cubic graphs of order 6p2 for an odd prime p.  相似文献
