This paper considers a competing system in which one of two species can diffuse between two patches, while the other is confined to one patch and cannot diffuse. It is proved that the system can be made persistent under some appropriate conditions even if the competitive patch is not persistent without diffusion. Further, if the system is a periodic system, it can have a strictly positive periodic orbit which is globally asymptotically stable under the appropriate conditions.  相似文献

A delayed Gause-type predator-prey system without dominating instantaneous negative feedbacks is investigated. It is proved that the system is uniformly persistent under some appropriate conditions. This paper is concerned with the existence and asymptotic behavior of periodic solutions for a periodic reaction diffusion system of a planktonic competition model under Dirichlet boundary conditions. The approach to the problem is by the method of upper and lower solutions and the bootstrap argument of Ahmad and Lazer. It is shown under certain conditions that this system has positive or semi-positive periodic solutions. We consider the stability of parallel server systems under the longest queue first (LQF) rule. We show that when the underlying graph of a parallel server system is a tree, the standard nominal traffic condition is sufficient for the stability of that system under LQF when interarrival and service times have general distributions. Then we consider a special parallel server system, which is known as the X-model, whose underlying graph is not a tree. We provide additional “drift” conditions for the stability and transience of these queueing systems with exponential interarrival and service times. Drift conditions depend in general on the stationary distribution of an induced Markov chain that is derived from the underlying queueing system. We illustrate our results with examples and simulation experiments. We also demonstrate that the stability of the LQF depends on the tie-breaking rule used and that it can be unstable even under arbitrary low loads.  相似文献
