We prove the following stronger version of the positivity of quasi-local energy (mass) stated by Liu and Yau: the quasi-local energy of each connected component of the boundary of a compact spacelike hypersurface which satisfies the local energy condition is strictly positive unless the spacetime is flat along the spacelike hypersurface and the boundary of the spacelike hypersurface is connected.

We deal with complete linear Weingarten spacelike hypersurfaces immersed in a Lorentzian space form, having two distinct principal curvatures. In this setting, we show that such a spacelike hypersurface must be isometric to a certain isoparametric hypersurface of the ambient space, under suitable restrictions on the values of the mean curvature and of the norm of the traceless part of its second fundamental form. Our approach is based on the use of a Simons type formula related to an appropriated Cheng–Yau modified operator jointly with some generalized maximum principles.  相似文献

We give a rigorous proof of the positive mass theorem for high-dimensional spacetimes with black holes if the spacetime contains an asymptotically flat spacelike spin hypersurface and satisfies the dominant energy condition along the hypersurface. We also weaken the spin structure on the spacelike hypersurface to spinc structure and give a modified positive mass theorem for spacetimes with black holes in dimensions 4, 5 and 6.  相似文献

In this paper we establish a sufficient condition for a compact spacelike hypersurface in de Sitter space to be spherical in terms of a lower bound for the square of its mean curvature. Our result will be a consequence of the maximum principle for the Laplacian operator. We also derive some other applications and consequences of our main result. In particular, we establish another sufficient condition for a compact spacelike hypersurface in de Sitter space to be spherical in terms of a pinching condition for its scalar curvature, as well as in terms of the Ricci curvature and in terms of the higher order mean curvatures  相似文献

In this paper we establish a sufficient condition for a compact spacelike hypersurface in de Sitter space to be spherical in terms of a pinching condition for the Ricci curvature. Our result will be a consequence of an integral formula involving the Ricci curvature and the scalar curvature of the hypersurface. We show that the only compact spacelike hypersurfaces in the Lorentz–Minkowski space Ln+1 having nonzero constant scalar curvature and spherical boundary are the hyperbolic caps (with negative constant scalar curvature). One key ingredient in our proof will be an integral formula for the n-dimensional volume enclosed by the boundary of a compact spacelike hypersurface, in the case where the boundary is contained in a hyperplane of Ln+1. As a direct application of that integral formula we also derive an interesting result for the volume of spacelike hypersurfaces.  相似文献

We obtain a gradient estimate for the Gauss maps from complete spacelike constant mean curvature hypersurfaces in Minkowski space into the hyperbolic space. As an application, we prove a Bernstein theorem which says that if the image of the Gauss map is bounded from one side, then the spacelike constant mean curvature hypersurface must be linear. This result extends the previous theorems obtained by B. Palmer [Pa] and Y.L. Xin [Xin1] where they assume that the image of the Gauss map is bounded. In this paper we obtain a sharp height estimate concerning compact spacelike hypersurfaces Σn immersed in the (n+1)-dimensional Lorentz-Minkowski space Ln+1 with some nonzero constant r-mean curvature, and whose boundary is contained into a spacelike hyperplane of Ln+1. In this paper we characterize the spacelike hyperplanes in the Lorentz–Minkowski space L n +1 as the only complete spacelike hypersurfaces with constant mean curvature which are bounded between two parallel spacelike hyperplanes. In the same way, we prove that the only complete spacelike hypersurfaces with constant mean curvature in L n +1 which are bounded between two concentric hyperbolic spaces are the hyperbolic spaces. Finally, we obtain some a priori estimates for the higher order mean curvatures, the scalar curvature and the Ricci curvature of a complete spacelike hypersurface in L n +1 which is bounded by a hyperbolic space. We get optimal lower bounds for the eigenvalues of the Dirac-Witten operator of compact(with or without boundary) spacelike hypersurfaces of Lorentian manifold satisfying certain conditions,just in terms of the mean curvature and the scalar curvature and the spinor energy-momentum tensor. We develop area and volume comparison theorems for the evolution of spacelike, acausal, causally complete hypersurfaces in Lorentzian manifolds, where one has a lower bound on the Ricci tensor along timelike curves, and an upper bound on the mean curvature of the hypersurface. In this paper, we show that a complete spacelike hypersurface immersed with constant mean curvature either in the de Sitter space or in the anti-de Sitter space must be totally umbilical, provided that its Gauss mapping has some suitable behavior. We study the problem of uniqueness of complete noncompact spacelike hypersurfaces immersed in a generalized Robertson-Walker spacetime, which is supposed to satisfy the so-called null convergence condition. By extending a technique of S.T. Yau and imposing a suitable restriction on the norm of the gradient of the height function of the hypersurface, we obtain rigidity theorems in such ambient spacetimes. Furthermore, we also establish nonparametric results concerning entire vertical graphs.  相似文献
