A systematic investigation has been done on the correlation between texture, grain size evolution and magnetic properties in Ta/Ni81Fe19/Ir20Mn80/Co90Fe10/Ta exchange bias in dependence of Ta buffer and NiFe seed layer thickness in the range of 2-10 nm, deposited by pulsed DC magnetron sputtering technique. A strong dependence of 〈1 1 1〉 texture on the Ta/NiFe thicknesses was found, where the reducing and increasing texture was correlated with exchange bias field and unidirectional anisotropy energy constant at both NiFe/IrMn and IrMn/CoFe interfaces. However, a direct correlation between average grain size in IrMn and Hex and Hc was not observed. L12 phase IrMn3 could be formed by thickness optimization of Ta/NiFe layers by deposition at room temperature, for which the maximum exchange coupling parameters were achieved. We conclude finally that the coercivity is mainly influenced by texture induced interfacial effects at NiFe/IrMn/CoFe interfaces developing with Ta/NiFe thicknesses.  相似文献

A series of exchange-biased magnetic tunneling junctions (MTJs) were made in an in-plane deposition field (h) = 500 Oe. The deposition sequence was Si(1 0 0)/Ta(30 Å)/CoFeB(75 Å)/AlOx(d Å)/Co(75 Å)/IrMn(90 Å)/Ta(100 Å), where d was varied from 12 Å to 30 Å. The MTJ was formed by the cross-strip method with a junction area of 0.0225 mm2. The tunneling magnetoresistance (ΔR/R) of each MTJ was measured. The high-resolution cross-sectional transmission electron microscopic (HR X-TEM) image shows the very smooth interface and clear microstructure. X-ray diffraction (XRD) demonstrates that the IrMn layer of the MTJ exhibits a (1 1 1) texture. From the results (ΔR/R) increases from 17% to 50%, as d increases from 12 Å to 30 Å. The tunneling resistance (Ro) of these junctions ranges from 150 Ω to 250 Ω. The exchange-biasing field (Hex) of the MTJ is 50-95 Oe. Finally, the saturation resistance (Rs) was measured as a function of the angle (α) of rotation, where α is the angle between h and the in-plane saturation field (Hs) = 1.1 kOe. The following figure presents the dependence of Rs on α, instead of originally expected independence, the curve actually varies with a period of π.  相似文献

A conventional Ta/NiFe/Cu/NiFe/FeMn/Ta spin valve multilayer was prepared to investigate the exchange bias variations of the pinned NiFe layer. An exchange bias field of 560 Oe has been found in a valve multilayer with ultra-thin pinned NiFe layers (1 nm), in which a large constant magnetic field of 700 Oe was applied during film deposition procession. The observed results are attributed to the large applied magnetic field, which produced more net spins of the antiferromagnet at the interface. These interfacial uncompensated spins provide the net spin moments required for exchange coupling and bias.  相似文献

Ab initio calculations have been carried out to investigate the electronic structure and magnetism of the compound Mn2Sn with the bcc half-Heusler structure. For the equilibrium lattice parameter 5.69 Å, Mn2Sn is predicted to be a half-metallic fully compensated ferrimagnet (also called half-metallic antiferromagnet) with zero total spin moment. This zero moment agrees well with the Slater-Pauling curve and mainly comes from the compensated Mn (A) and Mn (B) spin moments in antiparallel configuration. The half-metallicity of Mn2Sn is stable in a wide lattice-parameter range from 5.6 Å to 5.9 Å. Upon contraction of the lattice, a transition from half-metallicity to semimetallicity is observed.  相似文献

Training effects in a new class of exchange biased ferromagnet/antiferromagnet/ferromagnet trilayers (Co/NiO/[Co/Pt]3) with mutually orthogonal easy axes have been measured and successfully modeled. Previous experiments have demonstrated an enhanced blocking temperature as well as the ability to isothermally field tune the magnitude of the room temperature in-plane exchange bias. These effects have been attributed to the presence of the [Co/Pt] multilayer with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, which variably pins the backside NiO domains. Here we show that the tuning of the exchange bias and the blocking temperature enhancement are highly dependent on both the temperature and the in-plane remanence of the normally out-of-plane [Co/Pt] multilayer, achieved using modest in-plane set fields. Training effects and their dependence on temperature and in-plane remanence are modeled using a thermodynamic approach. The in-plane remanence of the [Co/Pt] acts only to set the equilibrium exchange bias value and sets the scale for the blocking temperature; it has no effect on the training. We conclude that training effects occur only at the Co/NiO interface and that the relaxation towards equilibrium is confined to this interface. The field enhanced blocking temperature and isothermal tuning of exchange bias in these magnetic heterostructures with mutually orthogonal easy axes could play a role in the enhancement of exchange bias effects in future spin-valve devices. A thorough knowledge of the training effects is essential to account for the fundamental relaxation mechanisms that occur with repeated field cycling.  相似文献

In this work, exchange bias and coercivity enhancement in ferromagnet (FM)–antiferromagnet (AFM) bilayer have been investigated. CoO film (50 nm) was deposited by sputtering with a relatively high oxygen partial pressure. The deposited films were subsequently annealed at varied temperature up to 973 K in the air atmosphere. The CoO film shows a disordered structure in the as-deposited state and an increase of crystallinity after annealing characterized by XRD and Raman spectra. A 40-nm Co film was deposited on the as-deposited CoO and annealed films. The Co–CoO bilayer shows a large exchange bias up to 1600 Oe and relatively high coercivity up to 3200 Oe (HC−) at 5 K, which is much larger than that of crystalline Co–CoO bilayer films without any treatment. The spin glass behavior combined with increasing crystallinity, surface roughness of CoO after annealing may be attributed to the large exchange bias and high coercivity.  相似文献

The exchange bias phenomenon has been investigated in multiferroic Eu0.75Y0.25MnO3. The material shows a weak ferromagnetism with cone spin configuration induced by external magnetic field below 30 K. Consequently, the electric polarization coming from the cycloid spin order below 30 K can be suppressed by external magnetic fields. The magnetic hysteresis loops after cooling in a magnetic field exhibit characteristics of exchange bias below the spin glassy freezing temperature (Tg)∼16 K. The exchange bias field, coercivity field, and remanent magnetization increase with increasing cooling magnetic field. The exchange bias effect is ascribed to the frozen uncompensated spins at the antiferromagnetism/weak ferromagnetism interfaces in the spin-glass like phase.  相似文献

The magnetization reversal of the bilayer polycrystalline FeNi(50 Å)/FeMn(50 Å) film sputtered in a magnetic field has been studied by magnetic and magneto-optical techniques. The external magnetic fields were applied along the easy or hard magnetization axis of the ferromagnetic permalloy layer. The asymmetry of hysteresis loop has been found. Appreciable asymmetry and the exchange bias were observed only in the field applied along the easy axis. The specific features of magnetization reversal were explained within the phenomenological model that involves high-order exchange anisotropy and misalignment of the easy axes of the antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic layers. It has been shown that the film can exist in one of three equilibrium magnetic states in the field applied along the easy axis. The transitions between these states occur as first-order phase transitions. The observed hysteresis loop asymmetry is related to the existence of the metastable state.  相似文献

Aurivillius SrBi2(Nb0.5Ta0.5)2O9 (SBNT 50/50) ceramics were prepared using the conventional solid-state reaction method. Scanning electron microscopy was applied to investigate the grain structure. The XRD studies revealed an orthorhombic structure in the SBNT 50/50 with lattice parameters a=5.522 Å, b=5.511 Å and c=25.114 Å. The dielectric properties were determined by impedance spectroscopy measurements. A strong low frequency dielectric dispersion was found to exist in this material. Its occurrence was ascribed to the presence of ionized space charge carriers such as oxygen vacancies. The dielectric relaxation was defined on the basis of an equivalent circuit. The temperature dependence of various electrical properties was determined and discussed. The thermal activation energy for the grain electric conductivity was lower in the high temperature region (T>303.6 °C, Ea−ht=0.47 eV) and higher in the low temperature region (T<303.6 °C, Ea−lt=1.18 eV).  相似文献

The coercivity of a Co/Pt multilayer with out-of-plane anisotropy can be lowered greatly if it is grown onto an ultrathin NiO underlayer . By making use of this characteristic, a series of samples glass/NiO(10 Å)/[Co(4 Å)/Pt(5 Å)]3/Pt(x Å)/[Co(4 Å)/Pt(5 Å)]3 with different Pt spacer thickness have been prepared to determine the ferromagnetic (FM) coupling between Co layers across the Pt layer. The measurements of major and minor hysteresis loops have shown that the FM coupling between the top and bottom Co/Pt multilayers decreases monotonically with the Pt layer thickness and disappears above the Pt layer thickness of 40 Å. This thickness of 40 Å is much larger than that in the literature. In addition to the FM coupling between the top and bottom Co/Pt multilayers across the Pt spacer, there exists a weak biquadratic coupling, which induces the broad transition of the bottom Co/Pt multilayer.  相似文献

MgO-based magnetic tunnel junctions were fabricated, with a thin pinned CoFeB layer in the unbalanced synthetic antiferromagnet part of the stack FeMn/CoFe/Ru/CoFeB. Inverted and normal tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) values occur at low and high annealing temperatures (Ta), respectively. The TMR ratio remains inverted up to Ta=300 °C and it becomes normal around Ta=350 °C. The exchange bias of FeMn disappears at high Ta. The sign reversal of the TMR ratio is mainly attributed to the disappearance of the exchange bias due to manganese diffusion during the annealing process.  相似文献

Effects of addition of CuO layers in L10-type FePt thin films are investigated. The ordering temperature of L10-type FePt films can be reduced by CuO addition. The coercivities of 0.78 and 0.82 T are achieved in [Pt(10 Å)/Fe(14 Å)/CuO(2 Å)]10 film annealed at 550 °C for 20 min and [Pt(10 Å)/Fe(15 Å)/CuO(3 Å)]10 film annealed at 600 °C for 20 min, respectively, and these values are compared to the coercivity of 0.8 T in [Pt(10 Å)/Fe(13 Å)]10 film annealed at 650 °C. The thickness of Fe and CuO layers strongly influences the ordering temperature of L10-type FePt and the magnetic properties of the films. The addition of CuO not only brings microstructure and surface morphology changes of FePt film, but also lowers the ordering temperature.  相似文献

[Co(30 Å)/Pt(x Å)]20 multilayers with the Pt layer thicknesses varying from 5 Å to 20 Å were characterized structurally by high angle X-ray diffraction, X-ray reflectivity, X-ray absorption spectroscopy and magnetically by X-ray magnetic circular dichroism. It is found that the structure and magnetic properties of Pt have a strong correlation with the Pt layer thickness. The 20 Å thickness Pt layer is not almost influenced by the adjacent Co layer and the nearest neighbors are dominated by Pt-Pt shells. With decreasing Pt layer thickness, the nearest neighbors are gradually dominated by Pt-Co shells and the Pt-Co intermixing regions also remarkable increase at the interfaces, especially for the 5 Å thickness Pt layer. The orbital and spin magnetic moments as well as the ratio morb/mspin all decrease systematically with increasing Pt layer thickness, indicating that the interface atoms are polarized by direct Pt-Co hybridization, but that the adjacent layers are polarized by Pt-Pt interactions.  相似文献

Magnetic properties of core–shell cobalt ferrite nanoparticles prepared by co-precipitation route in the range 15–48 nm have been studied. It is shown that the coercivity follows non-monotonic size dependence and exhibits a peak at around 26 nm. Field-cooled magnetization exhibited both horizontal (exchange bias) and vertical shifts. The exchange bias is understood as originating at the interface between a surface region (with structural and spin disorder) and a core ferrimagnetic region. The dependence of the exchange bias and vertical shift on the particle size and cooling field is found to have significant differences. These differences are explained in the light of recent results that suggest that there is a variation of the pinning strength amongst the interface spins and the vertical shift is affected by the more strongly pinned uncompensated spins.  相似文献

Cr2O3 nanoparticles of sizes from 24 to 12 nm were synthesized by mechanical grinding. Magnetic hysteresis loops were observed in the temperature range 5-300 K. Zero-field magnetization measurements showed two peaks, at low temperature in the range 36-52 K and at high temperature in the range 255-290 K. They were found to shift to higher temperatures as the particle size was reduced. This was ascribed due to the enhancement of the effective anisotropy constant with a decrease in particle size. The exchange bias was found to increase as the particle size became smaller. This is believed to arise due to an increase in uncompensated spins as a result of large surface area created.  相似文献

Nanostructured Fe50Co50 powders were prepared by mechanical alloying of Fe and Co elements in a vario-planetary high-energy ball mill. The structural properties, morphology changes and local iron environment variations were investigated as a function of milling time (in the 0-200 h range) by means of X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray analysis and 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy. The complete formation of bcc Fe50Co50 solid solution is observed after 100 h milling. As the milling time increases from 0 to 200 h, the lattice parameter decreases from 0.28655 nm for pure Fe to 0.28523 nm, the grain size decreases from 150 to 14 nm, while the meal level of strain increases from 0.0069% to 1.36%. The powder particle morphology at different stages of formation was observed by SEM. The parameters derived from the Mössbauer spectra confirm the beginning of the formation of Fe50Co50 phase at 43 h of milling. After 200 h of milling the average hyperfine magnetic field of 35 T suggests that a disordered bcc Fe-Co solid solution is formed.  相似文献

Aspects of exchange bias between antiferromagnets and ferromagnets remain unclear despite recent research. An outstanding issue is the relationship between exchange bias and enhanced coercivity in the ferromagnetic layer. This Letter reports the unexpected finding that a substantial exchange bias can be generated between an antiferromagnet (FeMn) with a higher ordering temperature than that of the ferromagnet (CuNi). We interpret the result in terms of a temperature-dependent competition between interfacial exchange and antiferromagnet anisotropy energies. Crossover of these energies during cooling is responsible for the onset of exchange bias at the blocking temperature.  相似文献

Barium strontium titanate (BST) thin films were prepared by RF magnetron sputtering. The dielectric constant-voltage curves and the hysteresis loops of BST thin films with different grain sizes and film thicknesses were investigated. When the grain size increases from 12 nm to 35 nm, remarkable increases in dielectric constant and tunability were observed. Above 12 nm, the BST films exhibited size effects, i.e. a decrease in maximal polarization (Pm) and an increase in coercive electric field (Ec) with reduction in grain size. In our investigation, the dielectric constant, tunability and maximal polarization increased as the film thickness increased. Furthermore, the size dependence of the dielectric constant and tunability of Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 thin films is determined by that of the maximal polarization and the coercive electric field.  相似文献

The artificial control of grain-boundary resistance and its contribution to magnetic and magneto-transport properties in [Co(3 nm)/Bi(2.5 nm)/Co(3 nm)]Ir20Mn80(12 nm) thin films that exhibit exchange bias is studied. Transverse magnetoresistance (MR) loops exhibit a negative MR in thin films grown by magnetron sputtering on Si/SiNx(100 nm) substrates. This negative MR effect is of the giant-MR (GMR) type, although its magnitude is less than 1%. A considerable exchange bias (EB) effect is observed only at lower temperatures, where both, GMR and isothermal magnetization loops exhibit a shift of −600 Oe at 5 K.  相似文献
