Decreasing solutions and convex solutions of the polynomial-like iterative equation

In this paper we prove the existence and uniqueness of decreasing solutions for the polynomial-like iterative equation so as to answer Problem 2 in [J. Zhang, L. Yang, W. Zhang, Some advances on functional equations, Adv. Math. (China) 24 (1995) 385-405] (or Problem 3 in [W. Zhang, J.A. Baker, Continuous solutions of a polynomial-like iterative equation with variable coefficients, Ann. Polon. Math. 73 (2000) 29-36]). Furthermore, we completely investigate increasing convex (or concave) solutions and decreasing convex (or concave) solutions of this equation so that the results obtained in [W. Zhang, K. Nikodem, B. Xu, Convex solutions of polynomial-like iterative equations, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 315 (2006) 29-40] are improved.     

Continuously decreasing solutions for a general iterative equation

Most known results on polynomial-like iterative equations are concentrated to increasing solutions. Without the uniformity of orientation and monotonicity, it becomes much more difficult for decreasing cases. In this paper, we prove the existence of decreasing solutions for a general iterative equation, which was proposed as an open problem in [J. Zhang, L. Yang, W. Zhang, Some advances on functional equations, Adv. Math. (China) 24 (1995) 385–405] (or [W. Zhang, J.A. Baker, Continuous solutions of a polynomial-like iterative equation with variable coefficients, Ann. Polon. Math. 73 (2000) 29–36]).

Remark on invariant curves for planar mappings

Bounded solutions for a functional equation were investigated by Ng and Zhang [C. T. Ng, W. Zhang, Invariant curves for planar mapping, J. Difference Eqn. Appl. 3 (1997) 147-168]. In this paper, we consider its solutions which may be unbounded. We give not only existence and uniqueness of its solutions but also the convex and concave solutions. Moreover, some examples are given.

Abelian integrals and period functions for quasihomogeneous Hamiltonian vector fields

In this paper, we study the number of zeros of Abelian integrals and the monotonicity of period functions for planar quasihomogeneous Hamiltonian vector fields. The result for Abelian integrals extends the recent work of Li et al. [C. Li, W. Li, J. Llibre, Z. Zhang, Polynomial systems: A lower bound for the weakened 16th Hilbert problem, Extracta Math. 16 (3) (2001) 441–447] and Llibre and Zhang [J. Llibre, X. Zhang, On the number of limit cycles for some perturbed Hamiltonian polynomial systems, Dyn. Contin. Discrete Impuls. Syst. Ser. A Math. Anal. 8 (2) (2001) 161–181].

A note on iterative roots of PM functions

In this paper we study iterative roots of PM functions, a special class of non-monotone functions. Problem 2 in [W. Zhang, PM functions, their characteristic intervals and iterative roots, Ann. Polon. Math. LXV (1997) 119-128] is solved partly and Theorem 4 in that paper is generalized.     

A family of derivative-free conjugate gradient methods for large-scale nonlinear systems of equations

In this paper, we propose a family of derivative-free conjugate gradient methods for large-scale nonlinear systems of equations. They come from two modified conjugate gradient methods [W.Y. Cheng, A two term PRP based descent Method, Numer. Funct. Anal. Optim. 28 (2007) 1217–1230; L. Zhang, W.J. Zhou, D.H. Li, A descent modified Polak–Ribiére–Polyak conjugate gradient method and its global convergence, IMA J. Numer. Anal. 26 (2006) 629–640] recently proposed for unconstrained optimization problems. Under appropriate conditions, the global convergence of the proposed method is established. Preliminary numerical results show that the proposed method is promising.

A Note on Donaldson's “Tamed to Compatible” Question

Recently, Tedi Draghici and Weiyi Zhang studied Donaldson's "tamed to compatible" question(Draghici T, Zhang W. A note on exact forms on almost complex manifolds. arXiv: 1111. 7287v1 [math. SG]. Submitted on 30 Nov. 2011).That is, for a compact almost complex 4-manifold whose almost complex structure is tamed by a symplectic form, is there a symplectic form compatible with this almost complex structure? They got several equivalent forms of this problem by studying the space of exact forms on such a manifold. With these equivalent forms, they proved a result which can be thought as a further partial answer to Donaldson's question in dimension 4. In this note, we give another simpler proof of their result.     

A note on “A novel approach to multi attribute group decision making based on trapezoidal interval type-2 fuzzy soft sets”

Zhang and Zhang (2013) proposed the arithmetic operations of trapezoidal interval type-2 fuzzy numbers having different left and right heights and hence the arithmetic operations of trapezoidal interval type-2 fuzzy soft sets having different left and right heights. In this paper, it is pointed out that the complement operation of a trapezoidal interval type-2 fuzzy number, proposed by Zhang and Zhang, is not valid and hence, the complement operation of trapezoidal interval type-2 fuzzy soft set as well as all the results, proposed by Zhang and Zhang in which complement operation is used, are not valid. The results, proposed by Zhang and Zhang, are valid only for such trapezoidal interval type-2 fuzzy numbers and trapezoidal interval type-2 fuzzy soft sets in which left and right heights are equal.

Generalizations of Bohr's inequality in Hilbert C*-modules

We present a new operator equality in the framework of Hilbert C*-modules. As a consequence, we get an extension of the Euler–Lagrange type identity in the setting of Hilbert bundles as well as several generalized operator Bohr's inequalities due to O. Hirzallah, W.-S. Cheung, J.E. Pe?ari? and F. Zhang.     

Logarithmically improved regularity criterion for the 3D generalized magneto-hydrodynamic equations

This article proves the logarithmically improved Serrin's criterion for solutions of the 3D generalized magneto-hydrodynamic equations in terms of the gradient of the velocity field, which can be regarded as improvement of results in [10] (Luo Y W. On the regularity of generalized MHD equations. J Math Anal Appl, 2010, 365: 806–808) and [18] (Zhang Z J. Remarks on the regularity criteria for generalized MHD equations. J Math Anal Appl, 2011, 375: 799–802).     

Bergman kernels and symplectic reduction

We present several results concerning the asymptotic expansion of the invariant Bergman kernel of the ${\mathrm{spin}}^c$ Dirac operator associated with high tensor powers of a positive line bundle on a compact symplectic manifold. Geometric quantization for proper moment maps

We establish a geometric quantization formula for Hamiltonian actions of a compact Lie group acting on a non-compact symplectic manifold such that the associated moment map is proper.
