One-pot assembling of selenazolines from elemental selenium,alkenes and acetonitrile

A new method for assembling 1,3-selenazolines by the iodine- mediated reaction of the simplest building blocks such as elemental selenium, alkenes and acetonitrile has been discovered. A proposed mechanism includes the addition of the intermediate selenium iodides to alkene with subsequent solvent interception by the formed seleniranium ion.     

熵的一种通俗教法

熵如力、能量和动量一样是物理学中一个重要概念,若能用一种通俗易懂的方法设计熵的教学,对文科物理的教学有重要意义.为此本文提出了一种通俗的熵的教法,这一教法不需要学生学习热力学第二定律也可以建立熵的概念.具体教学设计如下:通过日常生活例子引入熵的概念(也就是玻尔兹曼熵),设计两个例子让学生会计算熵,通过具体问题的讨论让学生充分理解熵的意义,通过一个实例由玻尔兹曼熵引入克劳修斯熵公式,设计一个演示实验强化教学效果,将熵与环境保护联系起来融入人文情怀,最后还强调了熵计算的不同层次.教学设计完全采用基于问题学习(PBL)的教学模式.     

Halomethanes in tri-n-octylamine and squalane mixtures at infinite dilution

The retention behavior of eight halomethanes and four saturated hydrocarbons was measured in gas chromatographic stationary phases consisting in tri-n-octylamine (TOA), squalane (SQ) and six TOA+SQ mixtures, at 55.0, 58.5, 62.5 and 65.0°C. Equlibrium constants for complex formation were extracted from experimental data by using a lattice model developed by Martire. The results may be interpreted in terms of the formation of weak hydrogen-bonded complexes, with sociation constants of about 0.13 L-mol^–1 for haloforms and 0.07 L-mol^–1 for dihalomethanes at 60°C.     

Separation of 23 dansylated amino acids by micellar electrokinetic chromatography at low temperature

Summary The baseline separation of 23 dansylated amino acids (including 3 didansylated species) is reported. Lowering of the analysis temperature and fine control of the surfactant concentration were essential in obtaining this result. Calibration graphs with good linearity were obtained.     

On a bifurcation governed by hysteresis nonlinearity

We consider autonomous systems with a nonlinear part depending on a parameter and study Hopf bifurcations at infinity. The nonlinear part consists of the nonlinear functional term and the Prandtl--Ishlinskii hysteresis term. The linear part of the system has a special form such that the close-loop system can be considered as a hysteresis perturbation of a quasilinear Hamiltonian system. The Hamiltonian system has a continuum of arbitrarily large cycles for each value of the parameter. We present sufficient conditions for the existence of bifurcation points for the non-Hamiltonian system with hysteresis. These bifurcation points are determined by simple characteristics of the hysteresis nonlinearity.

Fracture toughening of epoxy matrices with blends of resins of different molecular weights and other modifiers

The microstructure and fracture behavior of epoxy mixtures containing two monomers of different molecular weights were studied. The variation of the fracture toughness by the addition of other modifiers was also investigated. Several amounts of high‐molecular‐weight diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) oligomer were added to a nearly pure DGEBA monomer. The mixtures were cured with an aromatic amine, showing phase separation after curing. The curing behavior of the epoxy mixtures was investigated with thermal measurements. A significant enhancement of the fracture toughness was accompanied by slight increases in both the rigidity and strength of the mixtures that corresponded to the content of the high‐molecular‐weight epoxy resin. Dynamic mechanical and atomic force microscopy measurements indicated that the generated two‐phase morphology was a function of the content of the epoxy resin added. The influence of the addition of an oligomer or a thermoplastic on the morphologies and mechanical properties of both epoxy‐containing mixtures was also investigated. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Classical versus Jennings model for the ground state of H near a metallic surface

We show that, contrary to earlier reports, application of the one-parameter variational technique to the classical (image) model for H in front of an Al surface leads to energy shifts for the ground state which are very close to those obtained numerically with a more sophisticated model of the system.     

Integral Representations,Differentiability Properties and Limits at Infinity for Beppo Levi Functions

The first aim in the present paper is to give an integral representation for Beppo Levi functions on R ⁿ. Our integral representation is an extension of Sobolev's integral representation given for infinitely differentiable functions with compact support. As applications, continuity and differentiability properties of Beppo Levi functions are studied.Our second aim in this paper is to study the existence of limits at infinity for Beppo Levi functions. We also consider the existence of fine-type limits at infinity with respect to Bessel capacities, which yields the radial limit result at infinity.
