Data from high-resolution x-ray shadow photography of an X-pinch in the diode of a high-power dense-plasma generator are presented. The processes leading to the formation of a minidiode, the compression of the neck arising in it, and the cutoff and subsequent emptying of the neck are studied. Cascade formation of short-lived structures, which consistently reproduce the form of the minidiode on small scales before the x-ray burst, is observed in the course of the implosion. The position of the x-ray emission points is determined.  相似文献

Short-implosion-time 20-mm diameter, 300-wire tungsten arrays maintain high peak x-ray powers despite a reduction in peak current from 19 to 13 MA. The main radiation pulse on tests with a 1-mm on-axis rod may be explained by the observable j x B work done during the implosion, but bare-axis tests require sub-mm convergence of the magnetic field not seen except perhaps in >1 keV emission. The data include the first measurement of the imploding mass density profile of a wire-array Z pinch that further constrains simulation models.  相似文献

The x-ray diffraction intensities of Bragg reflections have been measured at room temperature for thulium selenide, samarium sulphide, samarium selenide and samarium telluride. On the basis of a common amplitude approximation, the Debye-Waller factor, the mean amplitude of vibration and the Debye temperature have been evaluated. The values of the Debye temperatures and mean amplitudes of vibration are 176±16°K, 0·185 ± 0·017 Å (TmSe), 155 ± 7°K, 0·244 ± 0·012 Å (SmS), 153 ± 14°K, 0·221 ± 0·020 Å (SmSe) and 151 ± 20°K, 0·204 ± 0·027 Å (SmTe).  相似文献

The plasma parameters in hot spots of an X-pinch are determined by using time-resolved data from X-ray spectroscopy in experiments on the implosion of crossed Ti wires in the XP device with a current of 480 kA and pulse duration of 100 ns. The electron densities and temperatures calculated from these data are in the ranges (0.8–3)×1023cm–3 and 1–2.5 keV, respectively. An analysis performed shows that the plasma processes are highly nonequilibrium.  相似文献

On the first inertial-confinement-fusion ignition facility, the target capsule will be DT filled through a long, narrow tube inserted into the shell. microg-scale shell perturbations Delta m' arising from multiple, 10-50 microm-diameter, hollow SiO2 tubes on x-ray-driven, ignition-scale, 1-mg capsules have been measured on a subignition device. Simulations compare well with observation, whence it is corroborated that Delta m' arises from early x-ray shadowing by the tube rather than tube mass coupling to the shell, and inferred that 10-20 microm tubes will negligibly affect fusion yield on a full-ignition facility.  相似文献

We present the first comprehensive study of high wire-number, wire-array Z-pinch dynamics at 14-18 MA using x-ray backlighting and optical shadowgraphy diagnostics. The cylindrical arrays retain slowly expanding, dense wire cores at the initial position up to 60% of the total implosion time. Azimuthally correlated instabilities at the array edge appear during this stage which continue to grow in amplitude and wavelength after the start of bulk motion, resulting in measurable trailing mass that does not arrive on axis before peak x-ray emission.  相似文献

The first controlled experiments measuring the growth of the magneto-Rayleigh-Taylor instability in fast (~100 ns) Z-pinch plasmas are reported. Sinusoidal perturbations on the surface of an initially solid Al tube (liner) with wavelengths of 25-400 μm were used to seed the instability. Radiographs with 15 μm resolution captured the evolution of the outer liner surface. Comparisons with numerical radiation magnetohydrodynamic simulations show remarkably good agreement down to 50 μm wavelengths.  相似文献

A rigorous investigation of the identification of a heterogeneousflexural rigidity coefficient in the Euler-Bernoulli steady-statebeam theory in the presence of a prescribed load is presented.Mathematically, this study is an extension to higher-order differentialequations of the coefficient identification problem analysedby Marcellini (1982) for the one-dimensional Poisson equation.In addition, various types of boundary conditions are discussed.Conditions for the well-posedness of these inverse problemsare established and, furthermore, numerical results obtainedusing a regularization algorithm are presented.  相似文献

The sensitivity of all ion trap mass spectrometry (ITMS) methods is dependent on the trapping efficiency of the instrument. For ITMS instruments utilizing external ion sources, such as laser desorption, trapping efficiency is known to depend on the phase and amplitude of the radio frequency (RF) potential applied to the ring electrode at the time of ion introduction. It is remarkable that, in a considerable body of literature, no consensus exists regarding the effects of these parameters on the efficacy of trapping externally generated ions. In this paper, a summary of the literature is presented in order to highlight significant discrepancies. New laser desorption ion trap mass spectrometry (LD-ITMS) data are also presented, from which conclusions are drawn in our effort to clarify some of the confusion.
