Colloid and nanodimensional catalysts in organic synthesis: VIII. Hydrogenation of C=N bond with hydrogen in the presence of colloid nickel

Hydrogenation of azomethines with hydrogen at atmospheric pressure using nickel nanoparticles as catalyst was carried out. Reaction may be used for the preparation of secondary amines under mild conditions on an available catalyst. Continuation of studies will lead to development of a convenient method for the reductive amination of carbonyl compounds.

Alkylation of N,N-dialkylcarboxamides with 1,3-dehydroadamantane has been accomplished for the first time. The reaction involves the C–H bond in the α-position with respect to the carbonyl group and provides a convenient one-step preparation of substituted carboxylic acid amides containing an 1-adamantyl substituent and a pharmacophoric group in the amide moiety.     

Alkylation of saturated nitrogen-containing heterocycles with 1-bromo-4-oxoadamantane

A synthetic route toward 1-N-heteryl-4-oxoadamantanes, intermediates in the synthesis of 1-heteryl-4-(R)-amino(acylamino)adamantanes used for treating type II diabetes and other diseases, was developed. Synthesis of 1-N-heteryl-4-oxoadamantanes was carried out by alkylation of saturated nitrogen-containing heterocycles with 1-bromo-4-oxoadamantane.

Adamantylation of carbonitriles with 1,3-dehydroadamantane and its homologs

1,3-Dehydroadamantane and its methyl-substituted homologs react with carbonitriles at the α-carbon atom of the latter to give the corresponding α-adamantyl carbonitriles. This reaction provide a convenient one-step procedure for selective synthesis of branched nitriles which are difficult to obtain by traditional procedures.
