Functional Carbazole Liquid‐Crystal Block Codendrimers with Optical and Electronic Properties

The synthesis and characterisation of a family of block codendrimers consisting of highly versatile mesogenic and carbazole‐containing 2,2‐bis(hydroxymethyl)propionic acid (bis‐MPA) dendrons are reported. The liquid‐crystal behaviour was investigated by means of differential scanning calorimetry, polarised‐light optical microscopy and X‐ray diffraction. Depending on the chemical structure of the constituent dendrons, the codendrimers show lamellar or columnar mesophases. On the basis of the experimental results, models both at the molecular level and in the mesophase are proposed. The physical properties of the block codendrimers derived from the presence of the carbazole moiety in their structure were investigated: photoluminescence in solution and in the mesophase, electrochemical behaviour and hole transport. Electrodeposition of carbazole dendrons afforded a globular supramolecular conformation in which the mesogenic molecular side plays a key role.     

TG/MS study of the thermal devolatization of Copoazú peels (Theobroma grandiflorum)

The Amazonian rain forest is the source of several numbers of species in the world, some of those vegetal species have been carried to different places due to their utility. One of those species is the Thehobroma grandiflorum, pulp and seeds of which have several usages in the food industry, but the shell has no extensive use. One of the possibilities due to the nature of the material is the pyrolysis process for obtaining valuable products. Thermal analysis was studied for the biomass thermochemical conversion process under TG/MS techniques. Three different heating rates were used for the thermochemical process. A variety of hydrocarbon and oxygenated products with industrial importance were obtained. The kinetics of the evolved species was studied under three different models. DAEM model fit the thermogravimetric data with good agreement. The parameters obtained for the model agreed with the studied intensities of the MS data. Those ones that did not fit were due to possible gas-phase reactions between the compounds obtained.     

HETEROCYCLIZATION OF AMINOTHIAZOLES

Several new 2-arylidinoamino-4-(3-coumaryl)thiazole derivatives were synthesized via the reaction of 2-amino-4-(coumaryl)thiazole with aromatic aldehydes and other reagents. Structural elucidations were based on elementary analysis and spectral data studies.     

Alliance free and alliance cover sets

A defensive (offensive) k-alliance in Γ = (V,E) is a set S ⊆ V such that every υ in S (in the boundary of S) has at least k more neighbors in S than it has in V / S. A set X ⊆ V is defensive (offensive) k-alliance free, if for all defensive (offensive) k-alliance S, S/X ≠ ∅, i.e., X does not contain any defensive (offensive) k-alliance as a subset. A set Y ⊆ V is a defensive (offensive) k-alliance cover, if for all defensive (offensive) k-alliance S, S ∩ Y ≠ ∅, i.e., Y contains at least one vertex from each defensive (offensive) k-alliance of Γ. In this paper we show several mathematical properties of defensive (offensive) k-alliance free sets and defensive (offensive) k-alliance cover sets, including tight bounds on their cardinality.     

Synthesis of pseudo-C-nucleosides from β-formyl-α,β-unsaturated ester bearing a β-furanosidic moiety

Abstract  

Pseudo-C-nucleosides have potential biological activity, and an efficient synthesis of new pseudo-C-nucleosides has been developed via the reaction of a β-formyl-α,β-unsaturated ester bearing a β-sugar moiety with hydrazines in neutral and acidic conditions. The preparation of the β-formyl-α,β-unsaturated ester was accomplished by oxidation of the secondary hydroxyl group of 3-O-benzyl-1,2-O-isopropylidene-α-d-glucofuranose, followed by elongation of its carbon chain with (ethoxycarbonylmethylene)triphenylphosphorane and oxidation of the hydroxymethyl group.     

Complete NMR assignment of 3, 4‐seco‐lup‐20(29)‐en‐3‐oic acid from Decatropis bicolor

Complete ¹H and ¹³C NMR chemical shift assignments for 3,4‐seco‐lup‐20(29)‐en‐3‐oic acid ( 1 ) have been established by means of two‐dimensional COSY, HSQC, HMBC and NOESY spectroscopic experiments as well as by analysis of MS data. Compound 1 was isolated from Decatropis bicolor (Zucc.) Radlk. (Rutaceae) in addition to six coumarins and one alkaloid of known structure. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

Synthesis and conformational analysis of azacyclophanes from l-tyrosine

The synthesis of a new azacyclophane formed by two l-tyrosine units joined by two methylene bridges is presented. The structural and conformational characteristics are briefly discussed. Spectroscopic and theoretical data reveal a syn structure with two intramolecular hydrogen bonds.
