Preparation and properties of the biodegradable graded blend of poly(L‐lactic acid) and poly(ethylene oxide)

We prepared biodegradable poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)/poly(L ‐lactic acid) (PLLA) graded blends by the dissolution–diffusion process, and discussed the biodegradability and tensile strength of the graded blends by comparing isotropic blend and PLLA only. All the graded blends were degraded more largely than the PLLA only and isotropic blend (PEO: 37.5 wt %), which had the same content as the total content of those graded blends. The graded blend having most excellent wide compositional gradient was degraded most largely with the enzyme. Thus, graded structure of the blends promoted their biodegradabilities large. It was considered that the dissolution of PEO with water increased the surface area attacked by the enzyme, while PEO caught PLLA oligomers to promote the biodegradation of PLLA. Then, the biodegradabilities of the graded blends were suppressed by the increasing crystallinity of PLLA. Synthetic study of (+)-anthramycin using ring-closing enyne metathesis and cross-metathesis

Synthesis of (+)-anthramycin was examined. A pyrrolobenzodiazepine skeleton could be synthesized by reductive cyclization of pyrrolidine derivative, which was obtained by enyne metathesis. The conjugated enamide ester part of (+)-anthramycin derivative was constructed by cross-metathesis.     

Synthesis and structure-activity relationships of N-substituted 2-[(2-imidazolylsulfinyl)methyl]anilines as a new class of gastric H+/K(+)-ATPase inhibitors.

A series of N-substituted 2-[(2-imidazolylsulfinyl)methyl]anilines (3) was synthesized and evaluated for its biological activity against gastric H+/K(+)-ATPase prepared from rabbit stomach and gastric acid secretions in Heidenhain pouch dogs. Monoalkyl substituents on the nitrogen atom of the aniline moiety markedly inhibited the enzyme activity to the same degree as omeprazole, a representative H+/K(+)-ATPase inhibitor. Most of these compounds, administered at 3 mg/kg i.v. inhibited histamine-stimulated gastric acid secretion. The inhibitory activity of these derivatives on the enzymes at pH 6.0 was more potent than that at pH 7.4, and was distinctly correlated to stability in aqueous solution at pH 5.0.     

A note on conservation laws for a multiclass service queueing system with setup times

This paper derives a conservation law for mean waiting times in a single-server multi-class service queueing system (M ^X/G/1 type queue) with setup times which may be dependent on multiple customer classes and its arrival batch size by using the work decomposition property in the queueing system with vacations.     

Characteristic values of the integral equation satisfied by the Mathieu functions and its application to a system with chirality-pair interaction on a one-dimensional lattice

We investigate low-temperature behaviors of a system with chirality-pair interaction on a one-dimensional lattice. In the course of the investigation, we evaluate asymptotic forms of the characteristic values of the integral equation satisfied by the Mathieu functions. It turns out that the low-temperature behavior of correlation length of the chirality-pair correlation function is different from the one for the Ising model of spin ±1 but akin to the one for the Ising model of infinite spin.
