Adaptive shock control bumps can exploit the on-design drag-reducing potential of 2D bumps, while mitigating their off-design performance deterioration through geometric modifications. In this study, experiments and simulations have been employed to investigate the wave-drag reducing potential of (actuated and unconstrained) 2D adaptive shock control bumps over a wide range of shock positions. Experiments were carried out in the Imperial College supersonic wind tunnel, modelling the adaptive bump as a flexible surface placed beneath a Mach 1.4 shock wave. 2D RANS CFD simulations of the flow in a parallel channel with a solid bump complement experiments. Wave drag was demonstrated to be proportional to the ratio of inlet to exit stagnation pressure in a blow-down wind tunnel for a given shock position. The shock exhibits a hysteretic behaviour when travelling in the wind tunnel working section, governed by the wave drag reducing potential of the bump. The actuated adaptive bump tested reduces wave drag over a wider operational envelope than solid bumps as experiments revealed the presence of three preferred structural configurations, which lead to a significantly enlarged hysteresis region. Finally, tests on unconstrained bumps were shown to increase wave drag, both on- and off-design, due to the unfavourable bump shapes that result from (only) passive actuation, suggesting that some constraints are required to achieve desirable surface deformations.  相似文献

In this paper,a statistical second-order twoscale(SSOTS) method is developed to simulate the dynamic thcrmo-mechanical performances of the statistically inhomogeneous materials.For this kind of composite material,the random distribution characteristics of particles,including the shape,size,orientation,spatial location,and volume fractions,are all considered.Firstly,the repre.sentation for the microscopic configuration of the statistically inhomogeneous materials is described.Secondly,the SSOTS formulation for the dynamic thermo-mechanical coupled problem is proposed in a constructive way,including the cell problems,effective thermal and mechanical parameters,homogenized problems,and the SSOTS formulas of the temperatures,displacements,heat flux densities and stresses.And then the algorithm procedure corresponding to the SSOTS method is brought forward.The numerical results obtained by using the SSOTS algorithm are compared with those by classical methods.In addition,the thermo-mechanical coupling effect is studied by comparing the results of coupled case with those of uncoupled case.It demonstrates that the coupling effect on the temperatures,heat flux densities,displacements,and stresses is very distinct.The results show that the SSOTS method is valid to predict the dynamic thermo-mechanical coupled performances of statistically inhomogeneous materials.  相似文献

Research on fish locomotion has made extensive progress towards a better understanding of how fish control their flexible body and fin for propulsion and maneuvering. Although the biologically flexible fish fins are believed to be one of the most important features to achieve optimal swimming performance, due to the limitations of the existing numerical modeling tool, studies on a deformable fin with a non-uniformly distributed stiffness are rare. In this work, we present a fully coupled fluid–structure interaction solver which can cope with the dynamic interplay between flexible aquatic animal and the ambient medium. In this tool, the fluid is resolved by solving Navier–Stokes equations based on the finite volume method with a multi-block grid system. The solid dynamics is solved by a nonlinear finite element method. A sophisticated improved IQN-ILS coupling algorithm is employed to stabilize solution and accelerate convergence. To demonstrate the capability of the developed Fluid–Structure-Interaction solver, we investigated the effect of five different stiffness distributions on the propulsive performance of a caudal peduncle-fin model. It is shown that with a non-uniformly distributed stiffness along the surface of the caudal fin, we are able to replicate similar real fish fin deformation. Consistent with the experimental observations, our numerical results also indicate that the fin with a cupping stiffness profile generates the largest thrust and efficiency whereas a heterocercal flexible fin yields the least propulsion performance but has the best maneuverability.  相似文献

The research progress of a novel traffic solution,a submerged floating tunnel(SFT),is reviewed in terms of a study approach and loading scenario.Among existing publications,the buoyancy-weight ratio(BWR) is usually predefined.However,BWR is a critical structural parameter that tremendously affects the dynamic behaviour of not only the tunnel tube itself but also the cable system.In the context of a SFT prototype(SFTP) project in Qiandao Lake(Zhejiang Province,China),the importance of BWR is illustrated by finite element analysis and subsequently,an optimized BWR is proposed within a reasonable range in the present study.In the numerical model,structural damping is identified to be of importance.Rayleigh damping and the corresponding Rayleigh coefficients are attained through a sensitivity study,which shows that the adopted damping ratios are fairly suitable for SFTP.Lastly,the human sense of security is considered by quantifying the comfort index,which helps further optimize BWR in the SFTP structural parameter design.  相似文献
