On the set of discrete subgroups of bounded covolume in a semisimple group

In this noteG is a locally compact group which is the product of finitely many groups G_s(k_s)(s∈S), where k_s is a local field of characteristic zero and G_s an absolutely almost simplek _s-group, ofk _s-rank ≥1. We assume that the sum of the r_s is ≥2 and fix a Haar measure onG. Then, given a constantc > 0, it is shown that, up to conjugacy,G contains only finitely many irreducible discrete subgroupsL of covolume ≥c (4.2). This generalizes a theorem of H C Wang for real groups. His argument extends to the present case, once it is shown thatL is finitely presented (2.4) and locally rigid (3.2).     

A New Type of Pronormal Subgroups in Chevalley Groups

Let L be a simple Lie algebra with irreducible root system φ having roots of different length,F be a field of characteristic different from 2,G=L(F) be a Chevalley group of type L over F.Denote by φ^1 the set of all long roots in φ.Set G^1=(zr(t);r∈φ^t,t∈F).It is a subgroup of G generated by all the long root subgroups.This paper determines the pronormality of G^1 in G when L is not of type G2.

Fuzzy subgroups of nilpotent groups

In 1991, Asaad has suggested the following question: What can be said about the structure of a group G when information is known about the structure of a fuzzy subgroup A of G and vice-versa? This question has been partially investigated in Fuzzy Sets and Systems39 (1991) 323–328. The purpose of this paper is to continue more investigations for the above mentioned question.     

Product decompositions of solvable Lie groups

Summary The article investigate the structure of real solvable connected Lie groups. It is described how one can decompose a solvable Lie group in direct and semidirect products of closed connected subgroups. In particular, the commutator group, Cartan subgroups, the center, maximal compactly embedded subgroups and tori are considered. Furthermore, one can find special solvable Lie groups and their product decompositions, namely compactly generated solvable Lie groups and those Lie groups which are generated by maximal compactly embedded subgroups.
