The capture into parametric autoresonance

In this work, we show that the capture into parametric resonance may be explained as pitchfork bifurcation in the primary parametric resonance equation. We prove that the solution close to the moment of the capture is descibed by the Painlevé-2 equation. We obtain connection formulae for the asymptotic solution of the primary parametric resonance equation before and after the capture using the matching of asymptotic expansions.

对余维3系统X_μ(x)具有包含一个双曲鞍-焦点O_1和一个非双曲鞍-焦点O_2的异宿环f进行了研究.证明了在f的邻域内有可数无穷条周期轨线和异宿轨线,当非粗糙异宿轨线Γ~0破裂时X_μ(x)会产生同宿轨分支,并给出了相应的分支曲线和两种同宿环共存的参数值.在3参数扰动下Γ~0破裂和O_2点产生Hopf分支的情况下,在f的邻域内有一条含O_1点同宿环,可数无效多条的轨线同宿于O_2点分支出的闭轨H_0,一条或无穷多条(可数或连续统的)异宿轨线等.     

Bifurcations of relative equilibria of an oblate gyrostat with a discrete damper

We investigate relative equilibria of an oblate gyrostat with a discrete damper. Linear and nonlinear methods yield stability conditions for simple spins about the nominal principal axes. We use analytical and numerical methods to explore other equilibria, including bifurcations that occur for varying rotor momentum and damper parameters. These bifurcations are complex structures that are perturbations of the zero rotor momentum case. We use Lyapunov–Schmidt reduction to determine an analytic relationship between parameters to determine conditions for which a jump phenomenon occurs. 本文考虑奇摄动问题的位于快变量空间中的奇异同宿轨道的保存和周期轨道分支问题.文中关于奇异同宿轨道保存的结论推广了一些已知的结果,而周期轨道产生于奇异同宿轨道的分支则提供了一种新的分支类型.     

Application of a non-linear local analysis method for the problem of mixed convection instability

We consider the problem of laminar mixed convection flow between parallel, vertical and uniformly heated plates where the governing dimensionless parameters are the Prandtl, Rayleigh and Reynolds numbers. Using the method based on the centre manifold theorem which was derived from the general theory of dynamical systems, we reduce a three-dimensional simplified model of ordinary differential amplitude equations emanating from the original Navier-Stokes system of the problem in the vicinity of a trivial stationary solution. We have found that when the forcing parameter, the Rayleigh number, increases beyond the critical value Ra_s, the stationary solution is a pitchfork bifurcation point of the system.     

Simultaneous combination and 1:3:5 internal resonances in a parametrically excited beam-mass system

The nonlinear dynamics of a base-excited slender beam carrying a lumped mass subjected to simultaneous combination parametric resonance of sum and difference type along with 1:3:5 internal resonances is investigated. Method of normal form is applied to the governing nonlinear temporal differential equation of motion to obtain a set of first-order differential equations which are used to obtain the steady-state, periodic, quasi-periodic and chaotic responses for different control parameters viz., amplitude and frequency of external excitation and damping. Frequency response, phase portraits, time spectra and bifurcation diagram are plotted to visualize the system behaviour with variation in the control parameters. Here, two distinct zones of trivial instability, blue sky catastrophe phenomena, jump down phenomena, simultaneous occurrence of periodic and chaotic orbits, period doubling of the mixed-mode periodic orbits leading to chaos, attractor merging crisis, boundary crisis, type II and on-off intermittencies are observed. Bifurcation diagram is plotted to facilitate the designer to choose a safe operating zone.
