The Chemical Speciation and Behavior of Mercury and Selenium in the Insoluble Fraction of Striped Dolphin Liver

Most of the mercury and selenium exist in the insoluble fraction of dolphin liver. After the insoluble fraction was digested by alkaline protease in the presence of 1% SDS, approximately 50% of Hg and Se consisted in the supernatant and the others in the residue. Gel filtration chromatography of the hydrolysate showed that 96% of Hg and 87% of Se were combined with the high molecular weight proteins stably, which cannot be substituted by the complex reagents.Mercury and selenium in the residue were confirmed as HgSe crystal.

Intramolecular oxyselenenylation and deselenenylation reactions in water, conducted by employing polymer-supported arylselenenyl bromide

After immobilizing arylselenenyl bromide on polymer resin, the oxyselenenylation reaction of olefin was carried out in water. An amphiphilic polymer-supported arylselenenyl bromide was employed, and various intramolecular oxyselenenylation and deselenenylation reactions proceeded smoothly in water in fair chemical yields (up to an 83% yield).

硒是人和动物必需的微量元素之一。土壤中的硒含量过多或过低，人和 动物都会出现地方性疾病。土壤中硒的含量与土壤母质、地形、气候条件和土壤条件性质等有关，调节土壤性质可以改善作物的含硒量。防治硒缺额症和硒中毒症，每天必需摄入适量的硒，以100－200μg为宜，但人体对硒的需要量也与食物成分有关。

类立方烷型金属原子簇化合物M_4E_4(M为过渡金属,E为硫属元素)的研究长期以来受到重视,其主要原因有二:(1)一些类立方烷型金属原子簇(如Fe_4S_4及Fe-Mo-S原子簇)在生物体系(如固氮酶、铁氧还蛋白)中有重要意义;(2)由于可以方便地对M或E作系列性的改变,因而M_4E_4成为研究原子簇化合物的电子结构及检测各种有关的理论假设的重要模型化合物。     

Synthesis of two new crown ethers containing selenium and the complexation of one of them with silver and lead

Two new macrocyclic crown ethers containing one or two selenium donor atoms have been prepared. Diselena-18-crown-6 (2) was found to transport silver ions through a methylene chloride bulk membrane at about the same rate as the analogous dithia- (3) and diaza-18-crown-6 (4) compounds and transported lead ions about the same as dithia-18-crown-6 but better than diaza-18-crown-6.     

Alkenyl selenols and selenocyanates: synthesis, spectroscopic characterization by photoelectron spectroscopy, and quantum chemical study

Vinyl, allyl, and homoallyl selenols were easily prepared by a chemoselective reduction of the corresponding selenocyanates with aluminum hydrides. Two stable vinyl and five stable allyl conformers of both series were predicted on the potential-energy surface. The interaction of SeH or SeCN groups with the vinyl group has been investigated with UV photoelectron spectroscopy and quantum chemical calculations, using the MP2/cc-pVTZ and B3LYP/cc-pVTZ levels. In the vinyl derivatives, a surprisingly strong direct conjugation of the selenium lone electron pair and the C=C double bond was observed. On the other hand, in allyl position the selenium lone pair is independent on the C=C double bond, and the hyperconjugation between the Se-C bond and the double bond is the ruling effect. Thus is clarified the type and extent of the interaction between the SeH or SeCN group and the unsaturated moiety.     

Chalcogenide Exchange Reaction of [RGa(μ3-Te)]4 with Elemental Sulfur and Selenium: A Density Functional Theory Study

Thermodynamic and mechanistic features of the chalcogen exchange reaction between [RGa( ₃-Te)]₄ and elemental sulfur or selenium have been studied employing density functional theory (DFT) calculations using the BL3YP basis set and Stuttgart pseudopotentials. For [MeGa( ₃-E)]₄ (E=S, Se, Te) the correlation between the calculated parameters and diffraction data for their isolable analogs is greater than 98%. Each step of the conversion of [MeGa( ₃-Te)]₄ to [MeGa( ₃-E)]₄ via [Me₄Ga₄( ₃-Te)_4–x ( ₃-E) _x ] (E=S, Se) is predicted to occur as a series of isolated reactions. The entropy change for each chalcogen exchange is small in magnitude and corresponds to the degree of cage distortion within the cubane molecules. Calculations performed on [MeGa( ₃-Te)]₄...S₈ and [MeGa( ₃-Te)]₄-S suggest that an increase in electrophilicity of the gallium next to a surface bound tellurium may result in nucleophilic cage opening for which intermediate structures are calculated.     

Kinetic determination of trace levels of selenium(IV) and total selenium by Nile Blue A/hydrogen peroxide method

A kinetic method for the determination of selenium(IV) traces is proposed, based on its inhibitory action on the oxidation of Nile Blue A by hydrogen peroxide in phosphate buffer (pH 10.5). A linear dependence was established between the rate of the proposed indicator reaction and selenium concentration in the range 9.5 × 10^–2-1.58 ng cm^–3. The experimental conditions of maximal selenium effect were established. Selenium, determined by the tangent method, was determined at concentrations over the range 0.22–1.26 ng cm^–3, with relative standard deviations up to 4.5%. The reaction rate was followed spectrophotometrically. The effect of foreign ions on the accuracy of this method was also investigated. The method was applied to the determination of selenium in pharmaceutical preparations and wheat flour.
