The industrial use of polypropylene (PP) films is limited because of undesirable properties such as poor adhesion and printability. In the present study, a DC glow discharge plasma has been used to improve the surface properties of PP films and make it useful for technical applications. The change in hydrophilicity of modified PP film surface was investigated by contact angle (CA) and surface energy measurements as a function of exposure time. In addition, plasma-treated PP films have been subjected to an ageing process to determine the durability of the plasma treatment. Changes in morphological and chemical composition of PP films were analyzed by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The improvement in adhesion was studied by measuring T-peel and lap shear strength. The results show that the surface hydrophilicity has been improved due to the increase in the roughness and the introduction of oxygen-containing polar groups. The AFM observation on PP film shows that the roughness of the surface increased due to plasma treatment. Analysis of chemical binding states and surface chemical composition by XPS showed an increase in the formation of polar functional groups and the concentration of oxygen content on the plasma-processed PP film surfaces. T-peel and lap shear test for adhesion strength measurement showed that the adhesion strength of the plasma-modified PP films increased compared with untreated films surface.  相似文献

An ammonium ion-crown ether interaction has been successfully used to construct porphyrin-single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) donor-acceptor hybrids. The [18]crown-6 to alkyl ammonium ion binding strategy resulted in porphyrin-SWNT nanohybrids that are stable and soluble in DMF. The porphyrin-SWNT hybrids were characterized by spectroscopic, TEM, and electrochemical techniques. Both steady-state and time-resolved emission studies revealed efficient quenching of the singlet excited state of the porphyrins and free-energy calculations suggested that electron-transfer quenching occurred. Nanosecond transient absorption spectral results supported the charge-separation quenching process. Charge-stabilization was also observed for the nanohybrids in which the lifetime of the radical ion pairs was around 100 ns. The present nanohybrids were also used to reduce the hexyl viologen dication (HV2+) and to oxidize 1-benzyl-1,4-dihydronicotinamide in solution in an electron-pooling experiment. Accumulation of the radical cation (HV.+) was observed in high yields, which provided additional proof for the occurrence of photoinduced charge separation. The present study demonstrates that a hydrogen-bonding motif is a successful self-assembly method to build SWNTs bearing donor-acceptor nanohybrids, which are useful for light-energy harvesting and photovoltaic applications.  相似文献

A near-IR-emitting sensitizer, boron-chelated tetraarylazadipyrromethane, has been utilized as an electron acceptor to synthesize a series of dyads and triads linked with a well-known electron donor, ferrocene. The structural integrity of the newly synthesized dyads and triads was established by spectroscopic, electrochemical, and computational methods. The DFT calculations revealed a 'molecular clip'-type structure for the triads wherein the donor and acceptor entities were separated by about 14 ?. Differential pulse voltammetry combined with spectroelectrochemical studies have revealed the redox states and estimated the energies of the charge-separated states. Free-energy calculations revealed the charge separation from the covalently linked ferrocene to the singlet excited ADP to yield Fc(+)-ADP(?-) to be energetically favorable. Consequently, the steady-state emission studies revealed quantitative quenching of the ADP fluorescence in all of the investigated dyads and triads. Femtosecond laser flash photolysis studies provided concrete evidence for the occurrence of photoinduced electron transfer in these donor-acceptor systems by providing spectral proof for formation of ADP radical anion (ADP(?-)) which exhibits a diagnostic absorption band in the near-IR region. The kinetics of charge separation and charge recombination measured by monitoring the rise and decay of the ADP(?-) band revealed ultrafast charge separation in these molecular systems. The charge-separation performance of the triads with two ferrocenes and a fluorophenyl-modified ADP macrocycle was found to be superior. Nanosecond transient absorption studies revealed the charge-recombination process to populate the triplet ADP as well as the ground state.  相似文献

A new ligand FIPB?=?5-(1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthrolin-2-yl)furan-2-yl-2-boronic acid, having three cobalt(III) polypyridyl complexes [Co(phen)2(FIPB)]3+(1) {FIPB?=?5-(1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthrolin-2-yl)furan-2-yl-2-boronic acid}, (phen?=?1,10-Phenanthroline), [Co(bpy)2(FIPB)]3+(2) (bpy?=?2,2’bipyridyl), [Co(dmb)2(FIPB)]3+(3) (dmb?=?4, 4′-dimethyl 2, 2′-bipyridine) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, ES-MS,1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, UV-Vis and FTIR. Their DNA binding behavior has been explored by various spectroscopic titrations and viscosity measurements, which indicated that all the complexes bind to calf thymus DNA by means of intercalation with different binding strengths. The binding properties of these all three complexes towards calf-thymus DNA (CT-DNA) have been investigated by UV-visible, emission spectroscopy and viscosity measurements. The experimental results suggested that three Co(III) complexes can intercalate into DNA base pairs, but with different binding affinities. Photo induced DNA cleavage studies have been performed and results indicate that three complexes efficiently cleave the pBR322-DNA in different forms. The three synthesized compounds were tested for antimicrobial activity by using Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis organisms, these results indicated that complex 1 was more activity compared to other two complexes against both tested microbial strains. The in vitro cytotoxicity of these complexes was evaluatedby MTT assay, and complex 1 shows higher cytotoxicity than complex 2 and 3 on HeLa cells.

Water into oxygen: Mono-iridium complexes (see picture; L=PO(3) H(2) or COOH) were immobilized on an indium tin oxide (ITO) surface to form a molecular electrocatalytic water oxidation assembly that mimics photosystem?II in producing molecular oxygen with high turnover numbers (TONs). The catalyst shows TONs for O(2) higher than 210?000 and turnover frequencies higher than 6.7?s(-1) during electrochemical catalytic water splitting.  相似文献

Photoinduced charge separation processes of three-layer supramolecular hybrids, fullerene-porphyrin-SWCNT, which are constructed from semiconducting (7,6)- and (6,5)-enriched SWCNTs and self-assembled via π-π interacting long alkyl chain substituted porphyrins (tetrakis(4-dodecyloxyphenyl)porphyrins; abbreviated as MP(alkyl)(4)) (M = Zn and H(2)), to which imidazole functionalized fullerene[60] (C(60)Im) is coordinated, have been investigated in organic solvents. The intermolecular alkyl-π and π-π interactions between the MP(alkyl)(4) and SWCNTs, in addition, coordination between C(60)Im and Zn ion in the porphyrin cavity are visualized using DFT calculations at the B3LYP/3-21G(*) level, predicting donor-acceptor interactions between them in the ground and excited states. The donor-acceptor nanohybrids thus formed are characterized by TEM imaging, steady-state absorption and fluorescence spectra. The time-resolved fluorescence studies of MP(alkyl)(4) in two-layered nanohybrids (MP(alkyl)(4)/SWCNT) revealed efficient quenching of the singlet excited states of MP(alkyl)(4) ((1)MP*(alkyl)(4)) with the rate constants of charge separation (k(CS)) in the range of (1-9) × 10(9) s(-1). A nanosecond transient absorption technique confirmed the electron transfer products, MP˙(+)(alkyl)(4)/SWCNT˙(-) and/or MP˙(-)(alkyl)(4)/SWCNT˙(+) for the two-layer nanohybrids. Upon further coordination of C(60)Im to ZnP, acceleration of charge separation via(1)ZnP* in C(60)Im→ZnP(alkyl)(4)/SWCNT is observed to form C(60)˙(-)Im→ZnP˙(+)(alkyl)(4)/SWCNT and C(60)˙(-)Im→ZnP(alkyl)(4)/SWCNT˙(+) charge separated states as supported by the transient absorption spectra. These characteristic absorptions decay with rate constants due to charge recombination (k(CR)) in the range of (6-10) × 10(6) s(-1), corresponding to the lifetimes of the radical ion-pairs of 100-170 ns. The electron transfer in the nanohybrids has further been utilized for light-to-electricity conversion by the construction of proof-of-concept photoelectrochemical solar cells.  相似文献

A 'molecular clip' featuring a near-IR emitting fluorophore, BF(2)-chelated tetraarylazadipyrromethane (aza-BODIPY) covalently linked to two porphyrins (MP, M = 2H or Zn) has been newly synthesized to host a three-dimensional electron acceptor fullerene via a 'two-point' metal-ligand axial coordination. Efficient singlet-singlet excitation transfer from (1)ZnP* to aza-BODIPY was witnessed in the dyad and triad in nonpolar and less polar solvents, such as toluene and o-dichlorobenzene, however, in polar solvents, additional electron transfer occurred along with energy transfer. A supramolecular tetrad was formed by assembling bis-pyridine functionalized fullerene via a 'two-point' metal-ligand axial coordination, and the resulted complex was characterized by optical absorption and emission, computational, and electrochemical methods. Electron transfer from photoexcited zinc porphyrin to C(60) is witnessed in the supramolecular tetrad from the femtosecond transient absorption spectral studies. Further, the supramolecular polyads (triad or tetrad) were utilized to build photoelectrochemical cells to check their ability to convert light into electricity by fabricating FTO/SnO(2)/polyad electrodes. The presence of azaBODIPY and fullerene entities of the tetrad improved the overall light energy conversion efficiency. An incident photon-to-current conversion efficiency of up to 17% has been achieved for the tetrad modified electrode.  相似文献

Cardiac patches are attractive option in overcoming the morbidities associated with cardiac disorders. Nanofibrous scaffolds were fabricated using polyurethane (PU) added with palmarosa (PR) and cobalt nitrate (CoNO3) using an electrospinning technique. Several characterizations were employed namely field emission scanning electron microscopy, wettability measurement, attenuated total reflectance infrared spectroscopy, thermal analysis, surface roughness measurements, and tensile testing. Further, biological response of the electrospun nanofibers were tested through coagulation study and MTS assay. As-spun composite mats showed smaller fibers than pure PU as depicted in morphology analysis. The interaction of PU with PR and CoNO3 was confirmed in infrared spectrum and thermal analysis. The incorporation of the PR decreased the wettability and while CoNO3 addition resulted in the hydrophilic nature as depicted in the contact angle measurements. Mechanical properties testing showed that elongation at break for the pristine PU was increased with the addition of PR and CoNO3. The surface measurements depicted that the incorporation of PR resulted in the improvement of the surface roughness while the addition of CoNO3 reduced the surface roughness of the pristine PU. The electrospun nanocomposites showed delayed blood clotting time compared to the pristine PU as shown in coagulation study. Both composites supported the better proliferation of fibroblast cells than pure PU. Therefore, novel composites with smaller fiber diameter, hydrophilicity, better mechanical properties, improved blood compatibility parameters, and good cell viability rates would be a promising candidate for cardiac tissue engineering.  相似文献

A set of novel mononuclear polypyridyl complexes of Ru (II) with N – N donar ligands 1, 10 phenanthroline (phen), 2, 2′ bipyridine (bpy), 4, 4′-dimethyl 2, 2′ bipyridine (dmb) and an intercalating ligand (bnpip = 2-(4-butoxy-3-nitrophenyl)-1H-imidazo [4,5-f] [1,10] phenanthroline) have been synthesized and characterized by various spectral methods. The RT - PCR assays suggest that ruthenium (II) complexes inhibit MCF-7, breast cancer cell line by inducing apoptosis via inhibition of cell cycle check points cyclin D, cyclin E and also upregulation of caspase 8 (protein involved in late Apoptosis). Further the binding potency of Ru (II) complexes were investigated using various spectroscopic techniques like UV–visible, fluorescence and viscosity studies. The complex binds to DNA in an intercalative mode as confirmed by viscosity data with differential binding strength. All complexes show cleavage of the pBR322 DNA through a singlet oxygen production. Theoretical evidence via docking of the complex with DNA reveals the significant residues of binding as guanine.  相似文献
