Surfaces of Constant Mean Curvature Bounded by Two Planar Curves

In this paper we study constant mean curvature compact surfaces with two Jordan curves in parallel planes as boundary and we investigate the point at which the surface inherits the symmetries of its boundary.

Letter: Differential Invariants of the Kerr Vacuum

The norms associated with the gradients of the two non-differential invariants of the Kerr vacuum are examined. Whereas both locally single out the horizons, their global behavior is more interesting. Both reflect the background angular momentum as the volume of space allowing a timelike gradient decreases with increasing angular momentum becoming zero in the degenerate and naked cases. These results extend directly to the Kerr-Newman geometry.

LES of turbulent heat transfer: proper convection numerical schemes for temperature transport

Large eddy simulations of two basic configurations (decay of isotropic turbulence, and the academic plane channel flow) with heat transfer have been performed comparing several convection numerical schemes, in order to discuss their ability to evaluate temperature fluctuations properly. Results are compared with the available incompressible heat transfer direct numerical simulation data. It is shown that the use of regularizing schemes (such as high order upwind type schemes) for the temperature transport equation in combination with centered schemes for momentum transport equation gives better results than the use of centred schemes for both equations. Forces along Equidistant Particle Paths

Two particles on the sphere leave the equator moving due south and travel at a constant and equal speed along a geodesic colliding at the south pole. An observer who is unaware of the curvature of the space will conclude that there is an attractive force acting between the particles. On the other hand, if particles travel at the same speed (initially parallel) along geodesics in the hyperbolic plane, then the particle paths diverge. Imagine two particles in the hyperbolic plane that are bound together at a constant distance with their center of mass traveling along a geodesic path at a constant velocity, then the force due to the curvature of the space acts to break the bond and increases as a quadratic function of the velocity. We consider this problem for the sphere and the hyperbolic plane and we give the exact formula for the apparent force between the particles. 光学非球面二次曲面常数及顶点曲率的研究

受光学非球面制造过程中诸工艺参数的影响,能否保证非球面顶点曲率及二次曲面常数的精度是一个重要问题。基于二次曲面方程,推导出确定光学非球面二次曲面常数k以及顶点曲率半径r的一组算法,并在对一块口径为760mm×200mm标准非球面反射镜的实际测算中进行拟合,经过优化,拟合精度达到Δk=0.015,Δr=0.341mm,从而有效的控制了光学非球面制造过程中的顶点曲率及二次曲面常数的偏差。     

Riemannian Manifolds in Which Certain Curvature Operator Has Constant Eigenvalues along Each Circle

Riemannian manifolds for which a natural curvature operator has constant eigenvalues on circles are studied. A local classification in dimensions two and three is given. In the 3-dimensional case one gets all locally symmetric spaces and all Riemannian manifolds with the constant principal Ricci curvatures r ₁ = r ₂ = 0, r ₃= 0 , which are not locally homogeneous, in general.
