Cationic cyclopolymerizations of 2,2‐bis(vinyloxymethyl)bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane ( 1 ), 5,5‐bis(vinyloxymethyl)‐2‐bicyclo[2.2.1]heptene ( 2 ), and 2,2‐bis(vinyloxymethyl)tricyclo[3.3.1.1]3, 7decane ( 3 ), divinyl ethers with a norbornane, norbornene, or adamantane unit, respectively, were investigated with the HCl/ZnCl2 initiating system in toluene and methylene chloride at ?30 °C. All the reactions proceeded quantitatively to give gel‐free, soluble polymers in organic solvents. The number‐average molecular weight (Mn) of the polymers increased in direct proportion to monomer conversion and further increased on addition of a fresh monomer feed to the almost completely polymerized reaction mixture. The contents of the unreacted vinyl groups in the produced soluble polymers were less than ~10 mol %, and therefore, the degree of cyclization of the polymers was determined to be over ~90%. These facts show that cyclopolymerization of 1 , 2 , and 3 exclusively occurred and the poly(vinyl ether)s with the cyclized repeating units and polycyclic pendants were obtained with their molecular weights being regulated. BF3OEt2 initiator also caused cyclopolymerization of 1 , 2 , and 3 to give the corresponding high‐molecular‐weight cyclopolymers quantitatively. Glass transition temperatures (Tg's) of poly( 1 ) and poly( 2 ) were 165–180 °C, and Tg's of poly( 3 ) were 211–231 °C; these values are very high as vinyl ether polymers. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The living cationic polymerization of 5‐ethyl‐2‐methyl‐5‐(vinyloxymethyl)‐1,3‐dioxane ( 1 ), a vinyl ether with a cyclic acetal unit, was investigated with various initiating systems in toluene or methylene chloride at 0 to ?30 °C. With initiating systems such as hydrogen chloride (HCl)/zinc chloride (ZnCl2), isobutyl vinyl ether–acetic acid adduct [CH3CH(OiBu)OCOCH3]/tin tetrabromide (SnBr4)/di‐tert‐butylpyridine (DTBP), and CH3CH(OiBu)OCOCH3/ethylaluminum sesquichloride (Et1.5AlCl1.5)/ethyl acetate (CH3COOEt), the number‐average molecular weights (Mn's) of the obtained poly( 1 )s increased in direct proportion to the monomer conversion and produced polymers with relatively narrow molecular weight distributions [MWDs; weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight (Mw/Mn) = 1.2–1.3]. To investigate the living nature of the polymerization with CH3CH(OiBu)OCOCH3/SnBr4/DTBP, a second monomer feed was added to the almost polymerized reaction mixture. The added monomer was completely consumed, and the Mn values of the polymers showed a direct increase against the conversion of the added monomer, indicating the formation of a long‐lived propagating species. The glass transition temperature and thermal decomposition temperature of poly( 1 ) (e.g., Mn = 13,600, Mw/Mn = 1.30) were 29 and 308 °C, respectively. The cyclic acetal group in the pendants of the polymer of 1 could be converted to the corresponding two hydroxy groups in a 65% yield by an acid‐catalyzed hydrolysis reaction. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The combination of living/controlled cationic cyclopolymerization and crosslinking polymerization of bifunctional vinyl ethers (divinyl ethers) was applied to the synthesis of core‐crosslinked star‐shaped polymers with rigid cyclized arms. Cyclopolymerization of 4,4‐bis(vinyloxymethyl)cyclohexene ( 1 ), a divinyl ether with a cyclohexene group, was investigated with the hydrogen chloride/zinc chloride (HCl/ZnCl2) initiating system in toluene at 0 °C. The reaction proceeded quantitatively to give soluble poly( 1 )s in organic solvents. The content of the unreacted vinyl groups in the produced polymers was less than ~3 mol%, and therefore, the degree of cyclization of the polymers was determined to be ~97%. The number‐average molecular weight (Mn) of the polymers increased in direct proportion to monomer conversion and further increased on addition of a fresh monomer feed to the almost completely polymerized reaction mixture, indicating that living cyclopolymerization of 1 occurred. The chain linking reactions among the formed living cyclopolymers with 1,4‐bis(vinyloxy)cyclohexane ( 3 ) as a crosslinker in toluene at 0 °C produced core‐crosslinked star‐shaped cyclopoly( 1 )s [star‐poly( 1 )s] in high yield (100%). Dihydroxylation of the cyclohexene double bonds of star‐poly( 1 ) gave hydrophilic water‐soluble star‐shaped polymers with rigid arm structure [star‐poly( 1 )‐OH] with thermo‐responsive function in water. Tgs of star‐poly( 1 ) and star‐poly( 1 )‐OH were 135 °C and 216 °C, respectively; these values are very high as vinyl ether‐based star‐shaped polymers. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Cationic polymerization of α‐methyl vinyl ethers was examined using an IBEA‐Et1.5AlCl1.5/SnCl4 initiating system in toluene in the presence of ethyl acetate at 0 ~ ?78 °C. 2‐Ethylhexyl 2‐propenyl ether (EHPE) had a higher reactivity, compared to corresponding vinyl ethers. But the resulting polymers had low molecular weights at 0 or ?50 °C. In contrast, the polymerization of EHPE at ?78 °C almost quantitatively proceeded, and the number‐average molecular weight (Mn) of the obtained polymers increased in direct proportion to the EHPE conversion with quite narrow molecular weight distributions (weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight ≤ 1.05). In monomer‐addition experiments, the Mn of the polymers shifted higher with low polydispersity as the polymerization proceeded, indicative of living polymerization. In the polymerization of methyl 2‐propenyl ether (MPE), the living‐like propagation also occurred under the reaction conditions similar to those for EHPE, but the elimination of the pendant methoxy groups was observed. The introduction of a more stable terminal group, quenched with sodium diethyl malonate, suppressed this decomposition, and the living polymerization proceeded. The glass transition temperature of the obtained poly(MPE) was 34 °C, which is much higher than that of the corresponding poly(vinyl ether). This poly(MPE) had solubility characteristics that differed from those of poly(vinyl ethers). © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 46: 2202–2211, 2008  相似文献

The cationic polymerization of two new divinyl ethers, 1‐(2‐vinyloxyethoxy)‐2‐[(2‐vinyloxyethoxy)carbonyl]benzene ( 2 ) and 1,2‐bis[(2‐vinyloxyethoxy)carbonyl]benzene ( 3 ), as well as 1,2‐bis(2‐vinyloxyethoxy)benzene ( 1 ), with BF3OEt2 in CH2Cl2 at 0 °C at low initial monomer concentrations ([M]0 = 0.15 and 0.075 M) gave soluble polymers with relatively high molecular weights and broad molecular weight distributions (MWDs), whereas reactions with the HCl/ZnCl2 initiating system yielded soluble polymers with relatively narrow MWDs (weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight ? 1.6) under similar reaction conditions. An NMR structural analysis of the HCl/ZnCl2‐mediated polymers from the divinyl ethers showed that poly( 1 ) had virtually no unreacted vinyl ether groups throughout the polymerization (monomer conversion = 28–98%), whereas poly( 2 ) and poly( 3 ) possessed some amount of unreacted vinyl ether groups in the initial stage of the polymerization; the content of the vinyl groups of poly( 2 ) was 18 mol % at a 15% monomer conversion, and the content of the vinyl groups of poly( 3 ) was 31 mol % at an 18% monomer conversion. Therefore, divinyl ether 1 underwent cyclopolymerization exclusively to give almost completely cyclized polymers [degree of cyclization (DC) ~ 100%], whereas divinyl ethers 2 and 3 exhibited a lower cyclopolymerization tendency [DC for poly( 2 ) = 82%; DC for poly( 3 ) = 69%]. The differences in the cyclopolymerization tendencies among the divinyl ethers can be explained by the differences in the solvation powers of the neighboring functional groups adjacent to the vinyl ether moiety with the active center: the ether oxygen of the ether neighboring group solvates intramolecularly with the active center to accelerate the intramolecular propagation, but such an interaction is less effective with the more electron‐deficient oxygen attached to the carbonyl group of the ester neighboring group. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Living cationic polymerization of 2‐adamantyl vinyl ether (2‐vinyloxytricyclo[3.3.1.1]3,7decane; 2‐AdVE) was achieved with the CH3CH(OiBu)OCOCH3/ethylaluminum sesquichloride/ethyl acetate [CH3CH(OiBu)OCOCH3/Et1.5AlCl1.5/CH3COOEt] initiating system in toluene at 0 °C. The number‐average molecular weights (Mn's) of the obtained poly(2‐AdVE)s increased in direct proportion to monomer conversion and produced the polymers with narrow molecular weight distributions (MWDs) (Mw/Mn = ~1.1). When a second monomer feed was added to the almost polymerized reaction mixture, the added monomer was completely consumed and the Mn's of the polymers showed a direct increase against conversion of the added monomer. Block and statistical copolymerization of 2‐AdVE with n‐butyl vinyl ether (CH2?CH? O? CH2 CH2CH2CH3; NBVE) were possible via living process based on the same initiating system to give the corresponding copolymers with narrow MWDs. Grass transition temperature (Tg) and thermal decomposition temperature (Td) of the poly(2‐AdVE) (e.g., Mn = 22,000, Mw/Mn = 1.17) were 178 and 323 °C, respectively. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The copolymerization of a highly fluorinated cyclic monomer, octafluorocyclopentene (OFCPE, M1), with ethyl vinyl ether (EVE, M2) was investigated with a radical initiator in bulk. Despite the poor homopolymerizability of each monomer, the copolymerization proceeded successfully, and the molecular weights of the copolymers reached up to more than 10,000. Incorporation of the OFCPE units into the copolymer led to an increase in the glass‐transition point. The copolymer composition was determined from 1H NMR spectra and elemental analysis data. The molar fraction of the OFCPE unit in the copolymer increased and approached but did not exceed 0.5. The monomer reactivity ratios were estimated by the Yamada–Itahashi–Otsu nonlinear least‐squares procedure as r1,OFCPE = ?0.008 ± 0.010 and r2,EVE = 0.192 ± 0.015. The reactivity ratios clearly suggest that the copolymerization proceeds alternatively in the case of an excessive feed of OFCPE. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We first achieved the living cationic polymerization of azide‐containing monomer, 2‐azidoethyl vinyl ether (AzVE), with SnCl4 as a catalyst (activator) in conjunction with the HCl adduct of a vinyl ether [H‐CH2CH(OR)‐Cl; R ? CH2CH2Cl, CH2CH(CH3)2]. Despite the potentially poisoning azide group, the produced polymers possessed controlled molecular weights and fairly narrow distributions (Mw/Mn ~ 1.2) and gave block polymers with 2‐chloroethyl vinyl ether. The pendent azide groups are easily converted into various functional groups via mild and selective reactions, such as the Staudinger reduction and copper‐catalyzed azide‐alkyne 1,3‐cycloaddition (CuAAC; a “click” reaction). These reactions led to quantitative pendent functionalization into primary amine (? NH2), hydroxy (? OH), and carboxyl (? COOH) groups, at room temperature and without any acidic or basic treatment. Thus, poly(AzVE) is a versatile precursor for a wide variety of functional vinyl ether polymers with well‐defined structures and molecular weights. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Herein, we clarified the ring-expansion cationic polymerization with a cyclic hemiacetal ester (HAE)-based initiator was versatile in terms of applicable vinyl ether monomers. Although there was a risk that higher reactive vinyl ethers may incur β-H elimination of the HAE-based cyclic dormant species to irreversibly give linear chains, the polymerizations were controlled to give corresponding cyclic polymers from various alkyl vinyl ethers of different reactivities. Functional vinyl ether monomers were also available, and for instance a vinyl ether monomer carrying an initiator moiety for metal-catalyzed living radical polymerization in the pendant allowed construction of ring-linear graft copolymers through the grafting-from approach. Furthermore, ring-based gel was prepared via the addition of divinyl ether at the end of the ring-expansion polymerization, where multi HAE bonds cyclic polymers or fused rings were crosslinked with each other. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Spiroorthoesters (SOEs), cis‐2,3‐tetramethylene‐1,4,6‐trioxaspiro[4,5]decane ( I ) and cis‐2,3‐tetramethylene‐1,4,6‐trioxaspiro[4,6]undecane ( II ), with different cyclic ether ring sizes were synthesized, and their stereostructure and steric energy were determined. With steric‐hindrance‐sensitized 9‐phenyl‐9,10‐dihydro‐anthracen‐10‐ylium cation as an initiator, I and II underwent regiospecific polymerization to yield trans form of stereoregular poly(ether esters)—poly(trans‐2‐oxycyclohexyl pentanoate) (? [trans‐2‐OCHP]n? ) ( III ) and poly(trans‐2‐oxycyclohexyl hexanoate) (? [trans‐2‐OCHH]n? ) ( V ), respectively. With SnCl4 as another initiator, I and II underwent regiospecific polymerization through different mechanisms to afford cis form poly(cis‐2‐oxycyclohexyl pentanoate) (? [cis‐2‐OCHP]n? ) ( IV ) and trans form (? [trans‐2‐OCHH]n? ) ( VI ) stereoregular poly(ether esters). The polymerization mechanisms of SOEs proceeded in the regiospecific manner were determined by the relationship among the sterostructures of SOEs and its subsequently formed polymers, the steric energy of monomers, and the free energy difference in the transition state of reaction. Owing to the conversion of cis substitution at C‐2 and C‐3 in I or II to the trans form during polymerization, polymers III , V , and VI exhibited a higher volume of expansion during polymerization than IV , which showed high volume shrinkage. Group contributions of divalent trans‐ and cis‐1.2‐cyclohexyl groups were derived and confirmed by measuring the densities of the corresponding stereoregular polymers. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. To study the possibility of living cationic polymerization of vinyl ethers with a urethane group, 4‐vinyloxybutyl n‐butylcarbamate ( 1 ) and 4‐vinyloxybutyl phenylcarbamate ( 2 ) were polymerized with the hydrogen chloride/zinc chloride initiating system in methylene chloride solvent at ?30 °C ([monomer]0 = 0.30 M, [HCl]0/[ZnCl2]0 = 5.0/2.0 mM). The polymerization of 1 was very slow and gave only low‐molecular‐weight polymers with a number‐average molecular weight (Mn) of about 2000 even at 100% monomer conversion. The structural analysis of the products showed occurrence of chain‐transfer reactions because of the urethane group of monomer 1 . In contrast, the polymerization of vinyl ether 2 proceeded much faster than 1 and led to high‐molecular‐weight polymers with narrow molecular weight distributions (MWDs ≤ ~1.2) in quantitative yield. The Mn's of the product polymers increased in direct proportion to monomer conversion and continued to increase linearly after sequential addition of a fresh monomer feed to the almost completely polymerized reaction mixture, whereas the MWDs of the polymers remained narrow. These results indicated the formation of living polymer from vinyl ether 2 . The difference of living nature between monomers 1 and 2 was attributable to the difference of the electron‐withdrawing power of the carbamate substituents, namely, n‐butyl for 1 versus phenyl for 2 , of the monomers. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 2‐Furyloxirane (FO), a monomer usually obtained from a nonpetroleum route, was prepared from the epoxidation reaction of furfural and trimethylsulfonium chloride. About 200–300 g FO can be obtained in each preparation process. Although anionic polymerization of FO generally gives low‐ molecular‐weight polymers even after long periods of polymerization, the reaction was greatly improved when macrocyclic ether was used as a cocatalyst to potassium tert‐butoxide. When 18‐crown‐6 was used as a cocatalyst, poly(2‐furyloxirane) (PFO) with a number‐average molecular weight (Mn) of 41.5 kg/mol and a polydispersity index of 1.3 was obtained at 94% yield after polymerization at 40 °C for 72 h. The PFO obtained contained a 61.7% head‐to‐tail (H‐T) structure in the absence of the macrocyclic ether, and it reached 70.6% when cryptand[2,2,2] was used as a cocatalyst. PFO with higher regioregular structures showed improved thermal properties. For PFO with Mn of around 20.0 kg/mol, its glass transition temperature (Tg) increased from ?3 to 6 °C when the H‐T content was increased from 61.7 to 70.6%. Raising the Mn of PFO also raised Tg. For PFO with 68.9% H‐T structure, its Tg could reach 7 °C when Mn was increased to 40 kg/mol. This study shows two effective ways to improve the thermal and mechanical performances of the polymer. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2011  相似文献

Hydroxy‐terminated telechelic poly(vinyl ether)s with pendant oxyethylene chains were synthesized by the reaction of the CH3CH(OCOCH3)? O[CH2]4O? CH(OCOCH3)CH3/Et1.5AlCl1.5/THF‐based bifunctional living cationic polymers of 2‐methoxyethyl vinyl ether (MOVE), 2‐ethoxyethyl vinyl ether (EOVE), and 2‐(2‐methoxyethoxy)ethyl vinyl ether (MOEOVE) with water and the subsequent reduction of the aldehyde polymer terminals with NaBH4. The obtained poly(vinyl ether) polyols were reacted with an equimolar amount of toluene diisocyanates [a mixture of 2,4‐ (80%) and 2,6‐ (20%) isomers] to give water‐soluble polyurethanes. The aqueous solutions of these polyurethanes caused thermally induced precipitation at a particular temperature depending on the sort of the thermosensitive poly(vinyl ether) segments containing oxyethylene side chains. These polyurethanes also function as polymeric surfactants, lowered the surface tension of their aqueous solutions. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Cationic polymerizations of two series of divinyl ethers were carried out to clarify the effects of their central spacer chain structure on their crosslinking polymerization behavior. One series of the monomers involves divinyl ethers with an oligooxyethylene central spacer chain: diethylene glycol divinyl ether ( O‐3 ), triethylene glycol divinyl ether ( O‐4 ), tetraethylene glycol divinyl ether ( O‐5 ), pentaethylene glycol divinyl ether ( O‐6 ), and heptaethylene glycol divinyl ether ( O‐8 ) (see Scheme 1 ). The other series includes divinyl ethers with an oligomethylene central spacer chain: 1,4‐butanediol divinyl ether ( C‐4 ), 1,6‐hexanediol divinyl ether ( C‐6 ), and 1,8‐octanediol divinyl ether ( C‐8 ). Cationic polymerizations of these monomers were carried out with the hydrogen chloride/zinc chloride (HCl/ZnCl2) initiating system in methylene chloride (CH2Cl2) at ?30 °C ([Monomer]0 = 0.15 M; [HCl]0 = 5.0 mM; [ZnCl2]0 = 0.5 mM). The polymerizations of the oligomethylene‐based divinyl ethers C‐6 and C‐8 caused gel formation at high monomer conversions (~90%), whereas C‐4 formed soluble polymers even at almost 100% monomer conversion. The oligooxyethylene‐based divinyl ethers O‐3 , O‐4 , O‐5 , and O‐6 underwent gel‐free polymerizations up to 100% monomer conversion and O‐8 did so at least up to ~80% conversion. The content of unreacted pendant vinyl groups of the obtained soluble polymers was measured by 1H NMR spectroscopy. In the polymerizations of the oligomethylene‐based divinyl ethers ( C‐4 , C‐6 , and C‐8 ), the vinyl contents of the polymers decreased monotonously with increasing monomer conversion, and their number‐average molecular weights (Mn's) and polydispersity ratios (Mw/Mn's) increased considerably just before the gelation occurred. On the contrary, the vinyl contents of the polymers obtained from the oligooxyethylene‐based divinyl ethers ( O‐3 , O‐4 , O‐5 , O‐6 , and O‐8 ) decreased steeply even in the early stage of the polymerizations and almost all the pendant vinyl ether groups were consumed in the soluble polymers at the final stage of the polymerizations. The oligooxyethylene spacer units adjacent to the pendant unreacted vinyl ether groups may solvate intramolecularly with the carbocationic active center to accelerate frequent occurrence of intramolecular crosslinking reactions. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of novel graft copolymers consisting of perfluorocyclobutyl aryl ether‐based backbone and poly(methyl methacrylate) side chains were synthesized by the combination of thermal [2π + 2π] step‐growth cycloaddition polymerization of aryl bistrifluorovinyl ether monomer and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of methyl methacrylate. A new aryl bistrifluorovinyl ether monomer, 2‐methyl‐1,4‐bistrifluorovinyloxybenzene, was first synthesized in two steps from commercially available reagents, and this monomer was homopolymerized in diphenyl ether to provide the corresponding perfluorocyclobutyl aryl ether‐based homopolymer with methoxyl end groups. The fluoropolymer was then converted to ATRP macroinitiator by the monobromination of the pendant methyls with N‐bromosuccinimide and benzoyl peroxide. The grafting‐from strategy was finally used to obtain the novel poly(2‐methyl‐1,4‐bistrifluorovinyloxybenzene)‐g‐poly(methyl methacrylate) graft copolymers with relatively narrow molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn ≤ 1.46) via ATRP of methyl methacrylate at 50 °C in anisole initiated by the Br‐containing macroinitiator using CuBr/dHbpy as catalytic system. These fluorine‐containing graft copolymers can dissolve in most organic solvents. This is the first example of the graft copolymer possessing perfluorocyclobutyl aryl ether‐based backbone. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2010  相似文献

To clarify the effects of the central spacer chain structure of divinyl ethers on their cationic cyclopolymerization tendencies, 1,4‐bis[(2‐vinyloxy)ethoxy]benzene ( 1 ), 1,4‐bis[(2‐vinyloxy)ethoxy]butane ( 2 ), 1,6‐bis[(2‐vinyloxy)ethoxy]hexane ( 3 ), 1,8‐bis[(2‐vinyloxy)ethoxy]octane ( 4 ), and 1,4‐bis[(4‐vinyloxy)butoxy]butane ( 5 ) were polymerized with the hydrogen chloride/zinc chloride (HCl/ZnCl2) initiating system in methylene chloride (CH2Cl2) at 0 °C at low initial monomer concentration ([M]0 = 0.15 M). The polymerizations of divinyl ethers 2 and 3 gave soluble polymers quantitatively. In contrast, the polymerizations of divinyl ethers 1 , 4 , and 5 underwent gel formation at high monomer conversion. The content of the unreacted vinyl groups of the obtained soluble polymers was measured by 1H NMR spectroscopy. Judging from the relatively low vinyl contents of the polymers produced even in the early stage of the polymerization (monomer conversion < ~20%), the cyclopolymerization occurred to some extent for 2 , 3 , and 4 . On the contrary, the polymers produced from 1 and 5 exhibited the relatively high vinyl content, indicating that the cyclopolymerization tendencies of 1 and 5 were lower than those of 2 , 3 , and 4 . These results are discussed in terms of the structural variety of the spacer chains: (1) the presence of benzene ring ( 1 vs 2 ), (2) their length ( 2 vs 3 and 4 ), and (3) the position of ether oxygen ( 4 vs 5 ). © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. For the precision synthesis of primary amino functional polymers, cationic polymerization of a phthalimide‐containing vinyl ether monomer precursor, 2‐vinyloxyethyl phthalimide (PIVE), was examined using a base‐assisting initiating system. Living polymerization of PIVE in CH2Cl2 in the presence of 1,4‐dioxane as an added base yielded nearly monodispersed polymers (Mw/Mn < 1.1) and higher molecular weight polymers, which have never been obtained using other initiating systems. Furthermore, block copolymers with hydrophobic or hydrophilic groups could be prepared. The deprotection of the pendant phthalimide groups gave well‐defined pH‐responsive polymers with pendant primary amino groups. The ring‐crossover polymerization of cyclic dithioester 1 was performed in the presence of quaternary onium salts as catalysts at 70–150 °C for 24 h in NMP. It was found that predictable cyclic polymers with the same repeating structures as 1 were obtained with Mns in the range between 700 and 3,500, quantitatively. It was observed that intermolecular and intramolecular thioester‐exchange reactions proceeded between cyclic monomer 1 and resulting cyclic polymers under thermodynamic control to give a lower‐molecular‐weight cyclic polymer with a lower polydispersity ratio (Mn = 2,400, Mw/Mn = 1.70). © 2006Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(allyl glycidyl ether) and poly(allyl glycidyl ether‐co‐epichlorohydrin) were prepared by monomer‐activated anionic polymerization. Quantitative and controlled polymerization of allyl glycidyl ether (AGE) giving high molar mass polyether was achieved in a few hours at room temperature in toluene using tetraoctylammonium salt as initiator in presence of an excess of triisobutylaluminum ([i‐Bu3Al]/[NOct4Br] = 2?4). Following the same polymerization route, the copolymerization of AGE and epichlorohydrin yields in a living‐like manner gradient‐type copolymers with controlled molar masses. Chemical modification of the pendant allyl group into cyclic carbonate was then investigated and the corresponding polymers were used as precursors for the isocyanate‐free synthesis of polyurethane networks in presence of a diamine. Formation of crosslinked materials was followed and characterized by infrared and differential scanning calorimetry. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2011  相似文献

Matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry analysis revealed that the HCl–vinyl ether adduct/SnCl4/n‐Bu4NCl initiating system induced living cationic polymerization of isobutyl vinyl ether in CH2Cl2 at ?78 °C, that is, the well‐resolved spectra demonstrated that the produced polymers consist of only one series of polymers carrying one initiator fragment at the α end and one methoxy group originated from quenching with methanol at the ω end. The polymer molecular weight as well as the terminal structure were unchanged even when the reaction mixtures were kept unquenched at ?78 °C for an interval of more than five times longer than the reaction period after complete consumption of monomer, which indicates the long lifetime of the living end even under such starved conditions. In contrast, the polymers obtained at a higher temperature, ?15 °C, showed an additional minor series of polymers formed via proton initiation, originating from adventitious water. Under the starved conditions, other side reactions occurred to generate minor series of polymers with an aldehyde ω end or a diisobutyl acetal ω end. Rather surprisingly, however, unsaturated C?C end groups were not detected, which means the absence of β‐proton elimination under these conditions. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
