Summary Using achiral stationary phases of different polarity in capillary gas chromatography it is demonstrated that the hydration of 1,2–5,6-dibenzocycloocta-1,5-diene yields five isomers of the tricyclo[10.4.0.04,9]hexadecanes. With highly polar stationary phases all isomers of the tricyclic hexadecanes and the semihydrated products in the mixture were also separated from each other. The chiral isomers were separated on cyclodextrin stationary phase. Moreover, with columns of achiral and chiral phases coupled in series, in a double oven gas chromatograph, it was possible to estimate the configuration of the isomers. The separation of diastereomers on chiral stationary phases is a useful means for structural assignment of isomeric compounds.Dedicated to Professor Leslie S. A crosslinkable biphenylmethylpolysiloxane stationary phase was synthesized for capillary column gas chromatography and compared with methyl, phenyl, and cyanopropyl polysiloxane stationary phases for the separation of isomeric polycyclic aromatic compounds. While the new phase gave similar separations of nonpolar isomers when compared to the nonpolar phases, separations of polar isomers were greatly improved because of the induced polarity of the biphenyl group of the stationary phase by the solute molecules. This polarizable stationary phase offers a unique selectivity which is not available in other stationary phases.  相似文献

A series of commercial monomeric and polymeric C(18), C(27), and C(30) stationary phases were compared with immobilized poly(ethylene-co-acrylic acid) stationary phases synthesized in-house. The columns were characterized on the basis of methylene selectivity, silanol activity, metal activity, pore size, shape selectivity, and the ability to separate tocopherol isomers and carotenoid isomers. Monomeric and polymeric C(30) phases were shown to yield excellent separations of the tocopherol isomers while the polymeric C(30) and polyethylene phases were more appropriate to the separation of carotenoids.  相似文献

Understanding the composition of complex hydrocarbon mixtures is important for environmental studies in diverse fields, but many prevalent compounds cannot be confidently identified using traditional gas chromatography (GC) techniques. Increasing requirements on analyses of isomeric compounds and the problems encountered in their separation demand a study of more efficient systems which exhibit a high selectivity. Kelker and Fresenius first used nematic liquid crystals as stereospecific stationary phases in GC. Nematic liquid crystal has shown this particular selectivity and sensitivity as stationary phases for the separation of isomers having similar volatilities. Because of their unique selectivity towards rigid solute isomers, liquid crystal stationary phases were considered at one time to be a very promising class of materials that give gas chromatographic separations very different from those that can be obtained with any other stationary phase. Since then, a great deal of attention has been paid to the separation properties of this relatively wide group of substances. Liquid crystal can be used to separate a variety of compounds including isomer mixtures which cannot be separated on conventional stationary phases. This paper aims to review all specific experimental results and presents a comparative analytical study of monomeric nematic liquid crystal stationary phases used in GC. A further contribution of this review is in the field of isomeric compounds separation.  相似文献

Monolithic capillary columns based on zirconia were prepared directly from zirconium alkoxide. They were also prepared coating a classical silica based monolithic column with zirconium butoxide. Using the gradual evolution of the theophylline/caffeine separation factor, it was found that successive zirconia coatings produced the progressive fading of surface silanols replaced by Zr–OH groups. The behavior of a silica monolith coated four times with zirconium butoxide was very similar to that of a pure zirconia monolith. The dramatic change in xanthine separation factor observed with zirconia stationary phases and the theophylline and caffeine probe solutes was used to develop a complete separation of xanthines on zirconia stationary phase in less than 6 min. The three dimethylxanthine isomers, theophylline, theobromine and paraxanthine, are very difficult to separate in RPLC with classical C18 stationary phases. The three isomers were easily separated in HILIC mode on a zirconia based stationary phase.  相似文献

Different stationary phases were prepared by mixing a series of inorganic salts with dimethylsiloxane polymer (SE-30) and then tested by capillary gas chromatography. It was demonstrated that the polarity (as evaluated by measurement of Rohrschneider constants) of the mixed stationary phases, which is inferior or equal to that of a medium-polar OV-25 phases, reached even lower values than SE-30 alone. The influence of NaF, NaCl, NaBr, AgNO3, and other inorganic salts on the polarity of capillaries is reflected by a better resolution and shorter retention time of cis/trans isomers of fatty acid methyl esters (FAMES) as well as positional isomers of triglycerides.  相似文献

Summary Two new cyclodextrin (CD) derivatives, heptakis{2,6-di-O-pentyl-3-O-[3′-(2″-chloro-4″,5″-dioxylmethene)-phenyl-5′-iso-oxazolylmethyl]}-β-CD (CD I) and heptakis{2,6-di-O-methyl-3-O-[3′-(2″-chloro)-phenyl-5′-iso-oxazolylmethyl]}-β-CD (CD II) were synthesized and coated on fused-silica capillary columns. Their chromatographic characteristics, including column efficiency, polarity, selectivity and phase transition were studied and compared with similar β-CD stationary phases. It was found that the heterocycle group has a significant effect on the selectivity of the CD stationary phases. Both stationary phases can be successfully used to separate many di- and trisubstituted benzene positional isomers and show stronger separation ability in separating low-polarity benzene positional isomers than other β-CD stationary phases.  相似文献

An efficient two‐step method has been developed for the separation of β‐cypermethrin stereoisomers by supercritical fluid chromatography with polysaccharide chiral stationary phases. With respect to retention, selectivity, and resolution of β‐cypermethrin, the effects of chiral stationary phases, cosolvents, mobile phases, and column temperature have been studied in detail. Through a two‐step separation, β‐cypermethrin was firstly separated by using a cellulose‐derived chiral stationary phase to obtain two stereoisomeric pairs, and further resolved on an amylose‐based chiral stationary phase to produce four enantiopure stereoisomers. The electronic circular dichroism patterns of the first‐ and the third‐eluted isomers in methanol solution showed the mirror image of each other in the wavelength range 200∼300 nm, indicating that they were a pair of enantiomers. Moreover, the second‐ and the fourth‐eluted isomers were also enantiomers. This proposed two‐step strategy showed low solvent consumption, fast separation speed, and high‐purity, which may provide an effective approach for preparative separation of compounds with multiple chiral centers and difficult‐to‐separate multicomponent samples.  相似文献

Abstract

Luminol, violuric acid, thymine, alloxane, orotic acid, imidazole, phthalimide and nicotinic acid effectively resolved all the nitroxylene (dimethylnitrobenzene) isomers and they are nitrogen containing heteroaromatic compounds. Ninhydrin (indantrione) also separated all the isomers and it is the only triketo-hydrocarbon among these effective liquid phases. Furthermore, almost all of these compounds resolved the isomers at a temperature below the melting points of the stationary phases.  相似文献

Of the six nitroxylene isomers, 2,4- and 2,3-nitroxylene are the most difficult to separate by GLC, but they have been effectively separated on various acidic polyols as stationary phases. Although polyethylene glycol could not generally separate the 2,4- and 2,3-nitroxylene isomers, polyethylene glycol 20M could, and polypropylene glycol could separate all the six isomers effectively.  相似文献

Monosubstituted benzaldehyde isomers have been studied quantitatively on nine stationary liquid phases of various physical and chemical characteristics and at different operating temperatures. Preparative-grade bonded β- and γ-cyclodextrin stationary phases were used as the packing material of liquid chromato-graphic analytical microcolumns. Although the resulting columns are characterized by relatively low efficiency, the high selectivity of the cyclodextrin phases nevertheless allows their successful use for the separation of different classes of isomeric compounds that are difficult to resolve on conventional LC stationary phases. Examples of baseline (or almost baseline) separations of a number of isomeric compounds, including isomeric polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, are presented to demonstrate the analytical potential of such columns. Retention behavior of the separated isomers is discussed based on the structure of the solute molecule and the possibility of its inclusion into the molecular cavity of cyclodextrin stationary phases.  相似文献

A,C-Bridged (ACCX) and A,D-bridged isopropyldimethylsilylcalix[6]arene (ADCX) dissolved in OV-1701 were used as stationary phases in isothermal capillary gas chromatographic separation of some positional isomers. Retention factors and separation factors for the isomers were measured. The isomers investigated are well resolved on the two phases. Retention of all the solutes investigated is longer on ACCX than on ADCX. The longer retention on A,C-bridged calix[6]arene is probably due to extra inductive interactions of the solute molecule with the carbonyl moieties in the phase. Separation factors for closely eluting isomer pairs are similar on the two phases. This seems to indicate that the carbonyl moieties do not play an appreciable role in discriminating the isomer molecules on entering the cavity of the calixarene if the solute is retained by the inclusion process.  相似文献
