The grafting of methyl methacrylate (MMA) onto polybutadiene (PB) latexes prepared by seeded emulsion polymerization at 50°C was investigated as a function of: (a) initiator concentration used in the secondary polymerization, (b) monomer-to-polymer ratio, (c) the specific surface area of the seed latex, and (d) the degree of conversion. The thin layer chromatography/flame ionization detection (TLC/FID) technique was used to determine the proportion of graft copolymer in the core/shell latex, It was found that grafting PMMA onto PB depended upon the concentration of initiator, decreasing as the concentration was increased. The amount of grafting increased with increasing specific surface area of the seed latex, while the molecular weight of the acetone-soluble graft copolymer decreased. The amount of graft copolymer was found to decrease concurrently with increasing monomer-to-polymer ratio and degree of conversion. These results suggest a hydrogen abstraction mechanism in the formation of graft PB–PMMA through a chain transfer process.  相似文献

A series of methyl methacrylate‐butadiene‐styrene (MBS) core–shell impact modifiers were prepared by grafting styrene (St) and methyl methacrylate (MMA) onto polybutadiene (PB) or styrene‐butadiene rubber (SBR) seed latex in emulsion polymerization. All the MBS modifiers were designed to have the same total chemical composition, and Bd/St/MMA equaled 39/31/30, which was a prerequisite for producing transparent blends with poly(MMA)/styrene‐acrylonitrile (PMMA/SAN) matrix copolymers. Under this composition, different ways of arrangement for styrene in MBS led to the different structure of MBS modifier. The concentration of PB or SBR rubber of MBS in PMMA/SAN/MBS blends was kept at a constant value of 15 wt.%. The effects of arrangement of St in MBS on the mechanical and optical properties of PMMA/SAN/MBS blends were investigated. The results indicated that Izod impact strength of PMMMA/SAN/MBS blend with the amount of St grafted on core in MBS was higher than that of blend with the amount of St copolymerized with Bd in core of MBS, while the transparency of blend is opposite. From transmission electron microscopy, it was found that the arrangement of St in MBS influenced the dispersion of blend, which led to different toughness. 采用在苯乙烯 (St)悬浮聚合过程中滴加甲基丙烯酸甲酯 (MMA)乳液聚合组分的悬浮 乳液复合聚合方法 ,制备大粒径聚苯乙烯 聚甲基丙烯酸甲酯 (PS PMMA)复合粒子 .研究聚合物粒径分布和颗粒形态的变化发现 ,在St悬浮反应中期滴加MMA乳液聚合组分后 ,聚合体系逐渐由悬浮粒子与乳胶粒子并存向形成单峰分布复合粒子转变 ,最终形成核 壳结构完整的大粒径PS PMMA复合粒子 ;在St悬浮反应初期滴加MMA乳液聚合组分 ,St与MMA一起分散成更小液滴 ,反应后期凝并成非核 壳结构复合粒子 ;在St悬浮反应后期滴加MMA乳液聚合组分 ,PMMA乳胶粒子与PS悬浮粒子基本独立存在 .根据以上结果 ,提出了St MMA悬浮 乳液复合聚合的成粒机理 .  相似文献

The core-shell structured grafted copolymer particles of polybutadiene grafted polymethyl methacrylate (PB-g-PMMA, MB) were prepared by emulsion polymerization. The MB particles were used to modify poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) by melt blending. The mechanical properties of the PVC blends were investigated. The micro-morphology of the PVC blends was observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results indicated that the samples with the best impact strength could be obtained when the core-shell weight ratio of PB to PMMA is lower than 93:7, the mechanical properties correlated well with SEM morphologies, the addition of modifier with the ratio core to shell of 93:7 could reduce the domain size of the dispersed phase. Furthermore, the compatibility and properties of the blends were greatly enhanced and improved. The modifier particles could be well dispersed in the PVC matrix.  相似文献

以乳液聚合制备的聚苯乙烯乳液为种子,加入甲基三甲氧基硅烷(MTMS)水解溶液进行缩聚反应,合成亚微米级聚苯乙烯/聚硅氧烷核壳粒子,并以此作为光散射剂添加至聚甲基丙烯酸甲酯(PMMA)树脂中,制备了光散射材料;考察了亚微米级核壳粒子添加在PMMA树脂中的分散性。结果表明:经过双螺杆剪切作用的挤出加工后,可以实现核壳粒子在PMMA树脂中的良好分散。核壳粒子可以大幅度提高PMMA的雾度,当聚苯乙烯/聚硅氧烷核壳粒子(NS82)的含量为1%时,制得的PMMA样片(厚度为2 mm)的雾度为89%,透光率为69%,有效光散射系数为61%。  相似文献

<正>In this study,P(St-MAA) seed latex particles were first prepared via soap-free emulsion polymerization of styrene(St) and methacrylic acid(MAA),then the seed particles were allowed to swell with St at room temperature,and the P(St-MAA)/P(StNaSS) core/shell latex particles were then synthesized via seeded emulsion copolymerization of St and sodium styrene sulphonate (NaSS) using AIBN as initiator in the presence of N,N'-methylenebisacrylamide(BAA,water-soluble crosslinker).Results showed that the polymerization could be carried out smoothly when the ratio of BAA to total monomers was less than 3 mol%,the narrow dispersed P(St-MAA) seed particles with the diameter of 150 nm and the P(St-MAA)/P(St-NaSS) core/shell latexes with the particle size of about 200 nm were synthesized.When the 25/75 mole ratio of NaSS/(St + MAA) and 2 mol%of BAA were used in the seeded emulsion polymerization,the resulted P(St-MAA)/P(St-NaSS) latex product showed a low weight loss after water extraction,and the NaSS unit content in the whole particle and in the shell reached 11.7 mol%and 34.6 mol%,respectively.  相似文献

The morphology of polybutylacrylate–polystyrene (PBA–PS) core-shell latex particles prepared by seeded emulsion polymerization was investigated as a function of the addition method of styrene (St). The thin layer chromatography/flame ionization detector (TLC–FID) technique was used to characterize the morphology of the core-shell latexes. It was found that grafting PS to the PBA core occurs during seeded emulsion polymerization. The percentage of grafting depended on the method of addition of St, being greatest for the batch reaction, less for the preswollen batch reaction, and least for the semibatch reaction. Upon aging the PBA core-polymer migrated out of the latex particles with a low degree of grafting to form dumbellshaped particles, whereas the PBA–PS core-shell particles with a high degree of grafting remained spherical because of the emulsifying ability of graft copolymer.  相似文献

This work reports the morphology of two-phase latex particles prepared by semi-continuous seed emulsion polymerization of styrene in the presence of polar poly(methyl methacrylate), PMMA, seed particles, using different conditions of non-polar styrene feed rate, rate of initiation, seed particle concentration and temperature of polymerization.The expected latex particle morphology at thermodynamic equilibrium is an inverted core-shell structure where the non-polar polystyrene would form the core. However, depending on the set of process conditions used the morphology of the resulting two-phase particles varied from that of a pure core-shell structure, over intermediate structures in which a shell of PS surrounded a PMMA core containing an increasing number of PS phase domains, to a structure in which the entire PS phase was present as discrete PS phase domain, more or less evenly distributed in a matrix of PMMA.By the use of a caloirimetric reactor system the monomer concentration in the particles during the different polymerization experiments could be calculated by comparing the integral of the polymerization rate curve with the integral of the monomer feed rate. A comparison between particle morphology and the calculated concentration of plasticizing monomer in the polymerizing particles strongly suggested that the diffusivity of the entering oligo radicals determined by the difference between polymerization temperature and the glass transition temperature of the monomer-swollen core polymer is a key factor determining the morphology of two-phase particles prepared by semi-continuous seed emulsion polymerization.Two-phase particles with a true core-shell structure were obtained in experiments where the estimated glass transition temperature of the PMMA phase was only a few degrees below the polymerization temperature. The results show that such particles can be obtained under conditions of high as well as low styrene feed rates, provided that the rate of initiation is properly adjusted.  相似文献

The grafting of methyl methacrylate (MMA) onto polybutadiene rubber latex by the direct radiation method was carried out. The effects of monomer concentration, absorbed dose and dose rate of gamma rays on the grafting yield were investigated. The graft copolymers were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), FTIR spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry. TEM photographs revealed that the core–shell structures of latex particles are formed at low MMA content, and with the increasing of MMA content, the semi-IPN-like structure with core–shell could be developed due to the high gel fraction of polybutadiene (PBD) seed particles. In addition, infrared analysis confirmed that MMA could be grafted onto PBD molecular chains effectively under appropriate irradiation conditions. The interfacial adhesion between PBD rubber (core) and PMMA (shell) phases could be enhanced with the increase of MMA concentration.  相似文献

利用种子半连续乳液聚合方法合成了核层或壳层带有环氧基以及壳层带有羧基的3种不同核/壳结构的乳胶粒子,通过物理共混带环氧基和羧基的乳胶粒子,得到了两种反应性复合乳液.利用透射电镜和激光动态光散射对乳胶粒子进行了表征,其粒径分布较窄,粒径分布的多分散系数为0.062,平均粒径约76 nm,乳胶粒子具有明显的核/壳结构.通过胶膜的凝胶率和膨胀率的测定和红外光谱分析对反应性复合乳液中乳胶粒子的扩散及交联反应进行了研究,并探讨了不同核壳结构复合乳液对涂膜机械性能的影响.研究表明,当反应性复合乳液中的环氧基和羧基分别分布在乳胶粒子的核层和壳层时,有利于聚合物分子链的充分扩散和化学交联反应的进行,从而提高涂膜的物理化学性能,当甲基丙烯酸缩水甘油酯(GMA)含量为10 wt%时,涂膜的拉伸强度达20.3 MPa.  相似文献

The emulsion polymerization of styrene (St) and methyl methacrylate (MMA) induced by 10 MeV pulsed electron beams (PEB) was investigated. The monomer conversion of MMA and St was found to be very low so that the final prepared poly(methyl methacrylate) (P(MMA)) and polystyrene (PS) latex particles exhibit porous structures, as verified by TEM and SEM observations. The results of dynamic light scattering (DLS) and gel permeation chromatography (GPC) showed that both the particle size and the molecular weight of PS and PMMA latexes decrease with the increase of the absorbed dose. However, the molecular weights and the particle sizes of the PS and PMMA latexes change differently with the irradiation time. This work indicated that emulsion polymerization induced by high energy electron beam has an advantage over that induced by γ-ray or chemical initiators in the preparation of latex with a low molecular weight and porous structure.  相似文献

Samples of styrene–acrylonitrile (SAN) copolymer of different compositions, molecular weights, block copolymers, and a blend of styrene and acrylonitrile homopolymers were prepared and characterized by the method of pyrolysis gas chromatography. On decomposition of SAN copolymer samples at 645°C, eleven components were identified, the most important of them being styrene, acrylonitrile, and propionitrile. By examination of the pyrolyzate composition during pyrolysis of the SAN copolymer of different compositions, it was established that the propionitrile yield was definitely decreased when the acrylonitrile concentration in copolymer was about 60 mole-%. Further, from the propionitrile yield, we could distinguish random SAN copolymer from the styrene-acrylonitrile homopolymer blend, and on the basis of propionitrile yield some information on the molecular structure of the copolymer could be obtained. The styrene yield depends linearly on the copolymer composition. This permits determination of copolymer composition on the basis of the styrene yield. Furthermore, the effects of decomposition temperature and of molecular weight on the yields of styrene and acrylonitrile were examined.  相似文献

The synthesis of core-shell type polystyrene monodisperse particles with surface acetal groups was carried out by a two-step emulsion polymerization process. In a first step, the core was synthesized by batch emulsion polymerization of styrene (St), and in the second step, the shell was polymerized by batch emulsion terpolymerization of styrene, methacrylic acid (MAA), and methacrylamidoacetaldehyde dimethyl acetal (MAAMA), using the seed obtained previously. With the aim of analyzing the effect of the thickness of the shell, the pH of the reaction medium and the weight ratio of the termonomers to prepare the shell, on the amount of the functionalized groups, several core-shell type latex particles were synthesized by two-step emulsion polymerization in a batch reactor. The latexes were characterized by TEM and conductimetric titration to obtain the particle size distribution and the amount of carboxyl and acetal groups on the surface, respectively. Looking for the applicability of the synthesized latexes in immunoassays, IgG a-CRP rabbit antibody was covalently bonded to the surface of the particles synthesized in neutral medium. 采用苯乙烯(St)悬浮聚合过程中滴加甲基丙烯酸甲酯(MMA)乳液聚合组分,悬浮乳液复合聚合(SECP)方法,制备大粒径聚苯乙烯聚甲基丙烯酸甲酯(PS- PMMA)复合粒子.采用FTIR、1H- NMR、13C- NMR分析方法,研究SECP各个时期复合粒子中MMA- St链节摩尔比,发现悬浮粒子中MMA St链节摩尔比逐渐增大,而PMMA乳胶粒子中逐渐减少,表明悬浮相和乳液相间存在物质传递过程.悬浮粒子中MMA链节质量与MMA总投料质量比主要由乳胶粒子生成速率和乳胶粒子向悬浮粒子凝聚速率决定.最终得到的复合粒子除含PS和PMMA均聚物外,还含少量MMA-St共聚物.  相似文献

ABS resins formed by copolymerization of styrene and acrylonitrile (AN) in presence of polybutadiene, consist of a mixture of SAN graft copolymer on polybutadiene (PBut) and of ungrafted SAN copolymer (styrene-co-acrylonitrile). The kinetic study was completed by showing a preferential solvation of polybutadiene by the initiator. This solvation effect was studied as a function of the concentration ratio SAN/PBut and in relation with the type of initiator. The adsorption of initiator appeared to be maximum when its solubility parameter (σ) is close to that of polybutadiene. As a function of the polybutadiene characteristics, this selective adsorption can be given by where I1 is the quantity of initiator in the polybutadiene medium, I is the total amount of peroxide, [PBut] is the concentration of polybutadiene, and M?n its molecular weight. It has been shown furthermore that the preferential solvation of polybutadiene by the benzoyl peroxide can be increased by addition of SAN or acrylonitrile. The consequences of this solvation effect on the characteristics of the grafting reaction, more precisely on the molecular weight of grafted and ungrafted SAN and on the rate of polymerization, were examined.  相似文献

The preparation and characterization of polymer blends with structured natural rubber (NR)-based latex particles are presented. By a semicontinuous emulsion polymerization process, a natural rubber latex (prevulcanized or not) was coated with a shell of crosslinked polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) or polystyrene (PS). Furthermore, core–shell latexes based on a natural rubber/crosslinked PS latex semi-interpenetrating network were synthesized in a batch process. These structured particles were incorporated as impact modifiers into a brittle polymer matrix using a Werner & Pfleiderer twin screw extruder. The mechanical properties of PS and PMMA blends with a series of the prepared latexes were investigated. In the case of PMMA blends, relatively simple core (NR)–shell (crosslinked PMMA) particles improved the mechanical properties of PMMA most effectively. An intermediate PS layer between the core and the shell or a natural rubber core with PS subinclusions allowed the E-modulus to be adjusted. The situation was different with the PS blends. Only core–shell particles based on NR-crosslinked PS latex semi-interpenetrating networks could effectively toughen PS. It appears that microdomains in the rubber phase allowed a modification of the crazing behavior. These inclusions were observed inside the NR particles by transmission electron microscopy. Transmission electron photomicrographs of PS and PMMA blends also revealed intact and well-dispersed particles. Scanning electron microscopy of fracture surfaces allowed us to distinguish PS blends reinforced with latex semi-interpenetrating network-based particles from blends with all other types of particles.  相似文献

Three types of acrylonitrile copolymers (acrylonitrile-styrene-butadiene copolymer (ABS1), acrylonitrile-styrene random copolymer (SAN2) and acrylonitrile-butadiene random copolymer (BAN3) were studied by thermogravimetry (TG/DTG4) and by pyrolysis in a semi-batch process at 450 °C in order to find structure–thermal behaviour relationships. The overlapped thermo-oxidative degradation processes were separated and the corresponding kinetic parameters were calculated. The TG/DTG studies have evidenced that the styrene-acrylonitrile interactions stabilize the nitrile groups reacting by chain scission rather than cyclization and destabilize the styrene units. Also, the cyclization of the acrylonitrile units in ABS is favoured by interactions with the styrene and butadiene units. The pyrolysis behaviour evidenced that the styrene-acrylonitrile interactions in SAN and ABS lead to the formation of 4-phenylbutyronitrile as the most important decomposition compound. ABS shows similar composition of the degradation oil with SAN copolymer therefore in the ABS the styrene-butadiene interactions are less important than those between styrene and acrylonitrile units.  相似文献

The use of magnetic latex particles as solid support in biomedical applications is favourable when homogeneous and well-defined core–shell polymer particles are used. Accordingly, this paper concerns with the synthesis of magnetic poly(styrene–divinylbenzene) latex particles using emulsion polymerization of styrene (St) and divinylbenzene (DVB) monomers in the presence of preformed oil in water organic ferrofluid emulsion droplets as seed. The key parameters which affect on formation and morphology of the prepared magnetic latexes were investigated, including type of magnetic emulsion, St/DVB monomers ratio, DVB amount, type of initiator and surfactant nature. In this study, two different magnetic emulsions were used, low and high octane content magnetic emulsions. The magnetic emulsions were stabilized using different types of surfactants including AP, Triton X 405 and SDS. In addition, four different initiators, including AIBN, V50, ACPA and KPS were examined. The morphology of the prepared magnetic latexes was investigated using transmission electron microscopy. In addition, particle size and size distribution, magnetic content and magnetic properties of the prepared magnetic latexes were also examined, using various techniques, e.g. dynamic light scattering, thermal gravimetric analysis and vibrating sample magnetometer, respectively. The results showed that the morphology type (Janus like, moon like and/or core–shell) of the prepared magnetic latex particles could be controlled depending mainly on the used formulation. In fact, the use of styrene monomer leads to anisotropic morphology. Whereas, the progressive use of DVB in presence of KPS intiator leads to a well-defined magnetic core and polymer shell structure.
