Analysis of the cutting tool on a lathe   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We use a systematic approach combining a path-following scheme, the method of multiple scales, the method of harmonic balance, Floquet theory, and numerical simulations to investigate the local and global dynamics and stability of cutting tool on a lathe due to the regenerative mechanism. First, we use the method of multiple scales to determine the normal form of the Hopf bifurcation at all of the stability boundaries and calculate the limit cycles generated by the bifurcation. Then, we use a combination of a path-following scheme and the method of harmonic balance to continue the branch of generated limit cycles. Thus, we calculate small- and large-amplitude limit cycles and ascertain their stability using Floquet theory. We validate these results using numerical simulations. Then, we search for isolated branches of large-amplitude solutions coexisting with the linearly stable trivial solution. We use all of the results to generate bifurcation diagrams consisting of multiple large-amplitude stable and unstable branches of limit cycles coexisting with the trivial response, indicating three regions of operation, as in the experimental observations. Then, we investigate bifurcation control using cubic-velocity feedback and show that the unconditionally stable region can be expanded at the expense of the conditionally stable region.  相似文献

The dynamic behavior of a one-degree-of-freedom, parametrically excited nonlinear system is investigated. The Galerkin method is applied to the principal and fundamental parameteric resonance of the system. The continuation method is used to study the change of harmonic oscillation with respect to the variation of excitation frequency. The numerical stability analysis of the trivial solution is carried out and the stable and unstable regions of the trivial solution are given. They are found to agree with the results obtained by the analytical method of Galerkin. Periodic solutions are traced and the coexistence of multi-periodic solutions is observed With the change of excitation frequency the large amplitude periodic-2 oscillation is found to be in the same closed branch with the small amplitude periodic-2 solution. In addition, the bifurcation pattern of the trivial solution is found to change from subcritical Hopf bifurcation into supercritical Hopf bifurcation with the increase of excitation amplitude. Combined with the conventional numerical integration method, new complex dynamic behavior is detected.  相似文献

Non-linear vibrations of cantilever beams with feedback delays   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A comprehensive investigation of the effect of feedback delays on the non-linear vibrations of a piezoelectrically actuated cantilever beam is presented. In the first part of this work, we examine the linear and non-linear free responses of a beam subjected to a delayed-acceleration feedback. We show that the trivial solution loses stability via a Hopf bifurcation leading to limit-cycle oscillations. We analyze the stability of the dynamic response in the postbifurcation, close to the stability boundaries by examining the nature of the Hopf bifurcation and away from the stability boundaries by using the method of harmonic balance and Floquet theory. We find that, increasing the gain for certain feedback delays may culminate in quasiperiodic and chaotic oscillations of the beam.In the second part, we analyze the effect of feedback delays on a beam subjected to a harmonic base excitations. We find that the nature of the forced response is largely defined by the stability of the trivial solutions of the unforced response. For stable trivial solutions (i.e., inside the stability boundaries of the trivial solutions), the homogeneous response emanating from the feedback diminishes, leaving only the particular solution resulting from the external excitation. In this case, delayed feedback acts as a vibration absorber. On the other hand, for unstable trivial solutions, the response contains two co-existing frequencies. Depending on the excitation amplitude and the commensurability of the delayed-response frequency to the excitation frequency, the response is either periodic or quasiperiodic.  相似文献

Dielectric elastomer(DE) is suitable in soft transducers for broad applications, among which many are subjected to dynamic loadings, either mechanical or electrical or both. The tuning behaviors of these DE devices call for an efficient and reliable method to analyze the dynamic response of DE. This remains to be a challenge since the resultant vibration equation of DE, for example, the vibration of a DE balloon considered here is highly nonlinear with higher-order power terms and time-dependent coefficients. Previous efforts toward this goal use largely the numerical integration method with the simple harmonic balance method as a supplement. The numerical integration and the simple harmonic balance method are inefficient for large parametric analysis or with difficulty in improving the solution accuracy. To overcome the weakness of these two methods,we describe formulations of the incremental harmonic balance(IHB) method for periodic forced solutions of such a unique system. Combined with an arc-length continuation technique, the proposed strategy can capture the whole solution branches, both stable and unstable, automatically with any desired accuracy.  相似文献

Local bifurcation theory of nonlinear systems with parametric excitation   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This paper summarizes the authors' research on local bifurcation theory of nonlinear systems with parametric excitation since 1986. The paper is divided into three parts. The first one is the local bifurcation problem of nonlinear systems with parametric excitation in cases of fundamental harmonic, subharmonic and superharmonic resonance. The second one is the experiment investigation of local bifurcation solutions in nonlinear systems with parametric excitation. The third one is the universal unfolding study of periodic bifurcation solutions in the nonlinear Hill system, where the influence of every physical parameter on the periodic bifurcation solution is discussed in detail and all the results may be applied to engineering.  相似文献

The dynamical behaviour of a parametrically excited Duffing-van der Pol oscillator under linear-plus-nonlinear state feedback control with a time delay is concerned. By means of the method of averaging together with truncation of Taylor expansions, two slow-flow equations on the amplitude and phase of response were derived for the case of principal parametric resonance. It is shown that the stability condition for the trivial solution is only associated with the linear terms in the original systems besides the amplitude and frequency of parametric excitation. And the trivial solution can be stabilized by appreciate choice of gains and time delay in feedback control. Different from the case of the trivial solution, the stability condition for nontrivial solutions is also associated with nonlinear terms besides linear terms in the original system. It is demonstrated that nontrivial steady state responses may lose their stability by saddle-node (SN) or Hopf bifurcation (HB) as parameters vary. The simulations, obtained by numerically integrating the original system, are in good agreement with the analytical results.  相似文献

We demonstrate the method of averaging for conservative oscillators which may be strongly nonlinear, under small perturbations including delayed and/or fractional derivative terms. The unperturbed systems studied here include a harmonic oscillator, a strongly nonlinear oscillator with a cubic nonlinearity, as well as one with a nonanalytic nonlinearity. For the latter two cases, we use an approximate realization of the asymptotic method of averaging, based on harmonic balance. The averaged dynamics closely match the full numerical solutions in all cases, verifying the validity of the averaging procedure as well as the harmonic balance approximations therein. Moreover, interesting dynamics is uncovered in the strongly nonlinear case with small delayed terms, where arbitrarily many stable and unstable limit cycles can coexist, and infinitely many simultaneous saddle-node bifurcations can occur.  相似文献

We study the dynamics of capture into, or escape from, resonance in a strongly nonlinear oscillator with weak damping and forcing, using harmonic balance based averaging (HBBA). This system provides the simplest example of resonance capture that we know of. The HBBA technique, here adapted to tackle nonlinear resonances, provides a harmonic balance assisted approximation to the underlying, asymptotically correct, averaged dynamics. Allowing the harmonic balance approximation makes a variety of systems analytically tractable which might otherwise be intractable. The evolution equations for amplitude and phase of oscillations are derived first. Restricting attention near the primary resonance, the slow flow equations are approximately averaged. The resulting flow transparently shows the stable and unstable primary resonant solutions, as well as the trajectories that get captured into resonance and the ones that escape. Good agreement with numerics is obtained, showing the utility of HBBA near resonance manifolds.  相似文献

In this work, bifurcation control using a piezoelectric actuator isimplemented to stabilize the parametric resonance induced in acantilever beam. The piezoelectric actuator is attached to the surfaceof the beam to produce a bending moment in the beam. The dimensionlessequation of motion for the beam with the piezoelectric actuator on itssurface is derived and the modulation equations for the complexamplitude of an approximate solution are obtained using the method ofmultiple scales. We then acquire the bifurcation set that expresses theboundary of the stable and unstable regions. The bifurcation set ischaracterized by the modulation equations. Next, we determine the orderof feedback gains to modify these modulation equations. By actuating thepiezoelectric actuator under the appropriate feedback, bifurcationcontrol is carried out resulting in the shift of the bifurcation set andthe expansion of the stable region. The main characteristic of thestabilization method introduced above is that the work done by thepiezoelectric actuator is zero in the state where the parametricresonance is stabilized. Thus zero power control is realized in such astate. Experimental results show the validity of the proposedstabilization method for the parametric resonance induced in thecantilever beam.

Phase waves rotating in a ring of unidirectionally coupled parametric oscillators are studied. The system has a pair of spatially uniform stable periodic solutions with a phase difference and an unstable quasiperiodic traveling phase wave solution. They are generated from the origin through a period doubling bifurcation and the Neimark?CSacker bifurcation, respectively. In transient states, phase waves rotating in a ring are generated, the duration of which increases exponentially with the number of oscillators (exponential transients). A power law distribution of the duration of randomly generated phase waves and the noise-sustained propagation of phase waves are also shown. These properties of transient phase waves are well described with a kinematical equation for the propagation of wave fronts. Further, the traveling phase wave is stabilized through a pitchfork bifurcation and changes into a standing wave through pinning. These bifurcations and exponential transient rotating waves are also shown in an autonomous system with averaging and a coupled map model, and they agree with each other.  相似文献

In this paper, the analytical dynamics of asymmetric periodic motions in the periodically forced, hardening Duffing oscillator is investigated via the generalized harmonic balance method. For the hardening Duffing oscillator, the symmetric periodic motions were extensively investigated with the aim of a good understanding of solutions with jumping phenomena. However, the asymmetric periodic motions for the hardening Duffing oscillators have not been obtained yet, and such asymmetric periodic motions are very important to find routes of periodic motions to chaos in the hardening Duffing oscillator analytically. Thus, the bifurcation trees from asymmetric period-1 motions to chaos are presented. The corresponding unstable periodic motions in the hardening Duffing oscillator are presented, and numerical illustrations of stable and unstable periodic motions are carried out as well. This investigation provides a comprehensive understanding of chaos mechanism in the hardening Duffing oscillator.  相似文献

The trivial equilibrium of a two-degree-of-freedom autonomous system may become unstable via a Hopf bifurcation of multiplicity two and give rise to oscillatory bifurcating solutions, due to presence of a time delay in the linear and nonlinear terms. The effect of external excitations on the dynamic behaviour of the corresponding non-autonomous system, after the Hopf bifurcation, is investigated based on the behaviour of solutions to the four-dimensional system of ordinary differential equations. The interaction between the Hopf bifurcating solutions and the high level excitations may induce a non-resonant or secondary resonance response, depending on the ratio of the frequency of bifurcating periodic motion to the frequency of external excitation. The first-order approximate periodic solutions for the non-resonant and super-harmonic resonance response are found to be in good agreement with those obtained by direct numerical integration of the delay differential equation. It is found that the non-resonant response may be either periodic or quasi-periodic. It is shown that the super-harmonic resonance response may exhibit periodic and quasi-periodic motions as well as a co-existence of two or three stable motions.  相似文献

The local dynamics around the trivial solution of an optoelectronic time-delay feedback system is investigated in the paper, and the effect of the feedback strength on the stability is addressed. The linear stability analysis shows that as the feedback strength varies, the system undergoes exactly two times of stability switch from a stable status to an unstable status or vice versa, and at each of the two end points of the stable interval, a Hopf bifurcation occurs. To gain insight of the bifurcated periodic solution, the Lindstedt–Poincaré method that involves easy computation, rather than the center manifold reduction that involves a great deal of tedious computation as done in the literature, is used to calculate the bifurcated periodic solution, and to determine the direction of the bifurcation. Two case studies are made to demonstrate the efficiency of the method.  相似文献

Two parametrically-induced phenomena are addressed in the context of a double pendulum subject to a vertical base excitation. First, the parametric resonances that cause the stable downward vertical equilibrium to bifurcate into large-amplitude periodic solutions are investigated extensively. Then the stabilization of the unstable upward equilibrium states through the parametric action of the high-frequency base motion is documented in the experiments and in the simulations. It is shown that there is a region in the plane of the excitation frequency and amplitude where all four unstable equilibrium states can be stabilized simultaneously in the double pendulum. The parametric resonances of the two modes of the base-excited double pendulum are studied both theoretically and experimentally. The transition curves (i.e., boundaries of the dynamic instability regions) are constructed asymptotically via the method of multiple scales including higher-order effects. The bifurcations characterizing the transitions from the trivial equilibrium to the periodic solutions are computed by either continuation methods and or by time integration and compared with the theoretical and experimental results.  相似文献

The behavior of single-degree-of-freedom systems possessing quadratic and cubic nonlinearities subject to parametric excitation is investigated. Both fundamental and principal parametric resonances are considered. A global bifurcation diagram in the excitation amplitude and excitation frequency domain is presented showing different possible stable steady-state solutions (attractors). Fractal basin maps for fundamental and principal parametric resonances when three attractors coexist are presented in color. An enlargement of one region of the map for principal parametric resonance reveals a Cantor-like set of fractal boundaries. For some cases, both periodic and chaotic attractors coexist.  相似文献

The principal resonance of a Duffing oscillator with delayed state feedback under narrow-band random parametric excitation is studied by using the method of multiple scales and numerical simulations. The first-order approximations of the solution, together with the modulation equations of both amplitude and phase, are derived. The effects of the frequency detuning, the deterministic amplitude, the intensity of the random excitation and the time delay on the dynamical behaviors, such as stability and bifurcation, are studied through the largest Lyapunov exponent. Moreover, the appropriate choice of the feedback gains and the time delay is discussed from the viewpoint of vibration control. It is found that the appropriate choice of the time delay can broaden the stable region of the trivial steady-state solution and enhance the control performance. The theoretical results are well verified through numerical simulations.  相似文献

The nonlinear planar response of a hinged-clamped beam to a principal parametric resonance of either its first or second mode or a combination parametric resonance of the additive type of its first two modes is investigated. The analysis accounts for mid-plane stretching, a static axial load, a restraining spring at one end, and modal damping. The natural frequency of the second mode is approximately three times the natural frequency of the first mode for a range of static axial loads, resulting in a three-to-one internal resonance. The method of multiple scales is used to attack directly the governing nonlinear integral-partial-differential equation and associated boundary conditions and derive three sets of four first-order nonlinear ordinary-differential equations describing the modulation of the amplitudes and phases of the first two modes in the cases of (a) principal parametric resonance of either the first or the second mode, and (b) a combination parametric resonance of the additive type of these modes. Periodic motions and periodically and chaotically modulated motions of the beam are determined by investigating the equilibrium and dynamic solutions of the modulation equations. For the case of principal parametric resonance of the first mode or combination parametric resonance of the additive type, trivial and two-mode solutions are possible, whereas for the case of parametric resonance of the second mode, trivial, single, and two-mode solutions are possible. The trivial and two-mode equilibrium solutions of the modulation equations may undergo either a supercritical or a subcritical Hopf bifurcation, depending on the magnitude of the axial load. For some excitation parameters, we found complex responses including period-doubling bifurcations and blue-sky catastrophes.  相似文献
