The nonlinear large deflection theory of cylindrical shells is extended to discuss nonlinear buckling and postbuckling behaviors of functionally graded (FG) cylindrical shells which are synchronously subjected to axial compression and lateral loads. In this analysis, the non-linear strain-displacement relations of large deformation and the Ritz energy method are used. The material properties of the shells vary smoothly through the shell thickness according to a power law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituent materials. Meanwhile, by taking the temperature-dependent material properties into account, various effects of external thermal environment are also investigated. The non-linear critical condition is found by defining the possible lowest point of external force. Numerical results show various effects of the inhomogeneous parameter, dimensional parameters and external thermal environments on non-linear buckling behaviors of combine-loaded FG cylindrical shells. In addition, the postbuckling equilibrium paths are also plotted for axially loaded pre-pressured FG cylindrical shells and there is an interesting mode jump exhibited.  相似文献

In this article, the nonlinear dynamic responses of sandwich functionally graded(FG) porous cylindrical shell embedded in elastic media are investigated. The shell studied here consists of three layers, of which the outer and inner skins are made of solid metal, while the core is FG porous metal foam. Partial differential equations are derived by utilizing the improved Donnell's nonlinear shell theory and Hamilton's principle. Afterwards, the Galerkin method is used to transform the governing equations into nonlinear ordinary differential equations, and an approximate analytical solution is obtained by using the multiple scales method. The effects of various system parameters, specifically, the radial load, core thickness, foam type, foam coefficient, structure damping, and Winkler-Pasternak foundation parameters on nonlinear internal resonance of the sandwich FG porous thin shells are evaluated.  相似文献

Thermal postbuckling analysis is presented for graphene-reinforced composite (GRC) laminated cylindrical shells under a uniform temperature field. The GRC layers are arranged in a functionally graded (FG) graphene reinforcement pattern by varying the graphene volume fraction in each GRC layer. The GRCs possess temperature dependent and anisotropic material properties and the extended Halpin–Tsai model is employed to evaluate the GRC material properties. The governing equations are based on a higher order shear deformation shell theory and include the von Kármán-type kinematic nonlinearity and the thermal effects. A singular perturbation method in conjunction with a two-step perturbation approach is applied to determine the thermal postbuckling equilibrium path for a GRC shell with or without geometric imperfection. An iterative scheme is developed to obtain numerical thermal buckling temperatures and thermal postbuckling load–deflection curves for the shells. The results reveal that the FG-X piece-wise FG graphene distribution can enhance the thermal postbuckling capacity of the shells when the shells are subjected to a uniform temperature loading.

A functionally graded material (FGM) is a type of material designed to change continuously within the solid. It can be designed for specific applications such as thermal barrier coatings, corrosion protection, biomedical materials, space/aerospace industries, automotive applications, compliant mechanisms etc. In these applications, many primary and secondary structural elements can be idealized as beams. So, the aim of the present work is to study the nonlinear nonplanar vibration of a clamped-free slender box beam made of a FGM. More specifically, the cross section consisting of two isotropic materials, connected by a FG layer, is considered. To correctly describe the dynamic characteristics of the system, the nonlinear integro-differential equations used in this work, which consider the flexural–flexural–torsional couplings that occur in the nonplanar motions of the beam, include both geometric and inertial nonlinearities. In addition, the Galerkin method is applied to obtain a set of discretized equations of motion, which are in turn solved by numerical integration using the Runge–Kutta method. A detailed parametric analysis using several tools of nonlinear dynamics, unveils the complex dynamics of the FG beam in the main resonance region. The FG beam displays a complex nonlinear dynamic behavior with several coexisting planar and nonplanar solutions, leading to an intricate bifurcation scenario. Special attention is given to the symmetry breaking of beam dynamics and its influence on the bifurcations and instabilities. The results show that even small variations in cross section and material gradation have profound influence on the bifurcation diagrams and the dynamic behavior of the structure.  相似文献

For improved stability of fluid-conveying pipes operating under the thermal environment, functionally graded materials (FGMs) are recommended in a few recent studies. Besides this advantage, the nonlinear dynamics of fluid-conveying FG pipes is an important concern for their engineering applications. The present study is carried out in this direction, where the nonlinear dynamics of a vertical FG pipe conveying hot fluid is studied thoroughly. The FG pipe is considered with pinned ends while the internal hot fluid flows with the steady or pulsatile flow velocity. Based on the Euler–Bernoulli beam theory and the plug-flow model, the nonlinear governing equation of motion of the fluid-conveying FG pipe is derived in the form of the nonlinear integro-partial-differential equation that is subsequently reduced as the nonlinear temporal differential equation using Galerkin method. The solutions in the time or frequency domain are obtained by implementing the adaptive Runge–Kutta method or harmonic balance method. First, the divergence characteristics of the FG pipe are investigated and it is found that buckling of the FG pipe arises mainly because of temperature of the internal fluid. Next, the dynamic characteristics of the FG pipe corresponding to its pre- and post-buckled equilibrium states are studied. In the pre-buckled equilibrium state, higher-order parametric resonances are observed in addition to the principal primary and secondary parametric resonances, and thus the usual shape of the parametric instability region deviates. However, in the post-buckled equilibrium state of the FG pipe, its chaotic oscillations may arise through the intermittent transition route, cyclic-fold bifurcation, period-doubling bifurcation and subcritical bifurcation. The overall study reveals complex dynamics of the FG pipe with respect to some system parameters like temperature of fluid, material properties of FGM and fluid flow velocity.  相似文献

Experimental and analytical buckling pressures are presented for very carefully fabricated thin cylindrical shells with 45, 60 and 75° conical heads and for cylindrical shells with torispherical heads pierced by axisymmetric cylindrical nozzles of various thicknesses and diameters. Nonsymmetric buckling occurs at pressures for which some of the material is loading plastically in the neighborhoods of stress concentrations caused by meridional slope discontinuities. The buckling pressures for the cone-cylinder vessels are predicted within 2.6 per cent and for the pierced torispherical vessels within 4.4 per cent with use of BOSOR5, a computer program based on the finite difference energy method in which axisymmetric large deflections, nonlinear material properties and nonsymmetric bifurcation buckling are accounted for. The predicted buckling pressures of the pierced torispherical specimens are rather sensitive to details of the analytical model in the neighborhood of the juncture between the nozzle and the head. The buckling pressures of the cone-cylinder vessels can be accurately predicted by treatment of the wall material as elastic, enforcement of the full compatibility conditions at the juncture in the prebuckling analysis, and release of the rotation compatibility condition in the bifurcation (eigenvalue) analysis.  相似文献

Within a framework of the three-dimensional (3D) piezoelectricity, we present asymptotic formulations of functionally graded (FG) piezoelectric cylindrical shells under cylindrical bending type of electromechanical loads using the method of perturbation. Without loss of generality, the material properties are regarded to be heterogeneous through the thickness coordinate. Afterwards, they are further specified to be constants in single-layer homogeneous shells and to obey an identical exponent-law in FG shells. The transverse normal load and normal electric displacement (or electric potential) are, respectively, applied on the lateral surfaces of the shells. The cylindrical shells are considered to be fully simple supports at the edges in the circumferential direction and with a large value of length in the axial direction. The present asymptotic formulations are applied to several benchmark problems. The coupled electro-elastic effect on the structural behavior of FG piezoelectric shells is evaluated. The influence of the material property gradient index on the variables of electric and mechanical fields is studied.  相似文献

The delamination growth may occur in delaminated cylindrical shells subjected to external dynamic load and it will further cause structural failure. Based on the variational principle of moving boundary and considering the contact effect between delamination regions, in this paper, the nonlinear governing equations for the delaminated cylindrical shells under the action of circumferential concentrated dynamic load are derived, and the corresponding boundary and matching conditions are given. At the same time, according to the Griffith criterion, the formulas of energy release rate along the delamination front are obtained and the delamination growth is studied. In the numerical calculation, the delamination growth of axisymmetrical laminated cylindrical shells is analyzed, and the effects of the delamination sizes and depths, the geometrical parameters, the material properties and the laminate stacking sequences on delamination growth are discussed.  相似文献

Based on the nonlinear large deflection theory of cylindrical shells, this paper deals with the nonlinear buckling problem of functionally graded cylindrical shells under torsion load by using the energy method and the nonlinear strain–displacement relations of large deformation. The material properties of the functionally graded shells vary smoothly through the shell thickness according to a power law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituent materials. Meanwhile, on the base of taking the temperature-dependent material properties into account, various effects of external thermal environment on the critical state of the shell are also investigated. Numerical results show various effects of the inhomogeneous parameter, the dimensional parameters and external thermal environment on nonlinear buckling of functionally graded cylindrical shells under torsion. The present theoretical results are verified by those in literature.  相似文献

Here, the nonlinear thermo-elastic buckling/post-buckling characteristics of laminated circular conical–cylindrical/conical–cylindrical–conical joined shells subjected to uniform temperature rise are studied employing semi-analytical finite element approach. The nonlinear governing equations, considering geometric nonlinearity based on von Karman’s assumption for moderately large deformation, are solved using Newton–Raphson iteration procedure coupled with displacement control method to trace the pre-buckling/post-buckling equilibrium path. The presence of asymmetric perturbation in the form of small magnitude load spatially proportional to the linear buckling mode shape is assumed to initiate the bifurcation of the shell deformation. The study is carried out to highlight the influences of semi-cone angle, material properties and number of circumferential waves on the nonlinear thermo-elastic response of the different joined shell systems.  相似文献

The aim of the present study is to investigate the nonlinear free vibration of spinning cylindrical shells under spinning and arbitrary boundary conditions. Artificial springs are used to simulate arbitrary boundary conditions. Sanders' shell theory is employed, and von Kármán nonlinear terms are considered in the theoretical modeling. By using Chebyshev polynomials as admissible functions, motion equations are derived with the Ritz method. Then, a direct iteration method is used to obtain the nonlinear vibration frequencies. The effects of the circumferential wave number, the boundary spring stiffness, and the spinning speed on the nonlinear vibration characteristics of the shells are highlighted. It is found that there exist sensitive intervals for the boundary spring stiffness, which makes the variation of the nonlinear frequency ratio more evident. The decline of the frequency ratio caused by the spinning speed is more significant for the higher vibration amplitude and the smaller boundary spring stiffness.  相似文献

Based on Donnell shallow shell equations, the nonlinear vibrations and dynamic instability of axially loaded circular cylindrical shells under both static and harmonic forces is theoretically analyzed. First the problem is reduced to a finite degree-of-freedom one by using the Galerkin method; then the resulting set of coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations of motion are solved by the Runge–Kutta method. To study the nonlinear behavior of the shell, several numerical strategies were used to obtain Poincaré maps, Lyapunov exponents, stable and unstable fixed points, bifurcation diagrams, and basins of attraction. Particular attention is paid to two dynamic instability phenomena that may arise under these loading conditions: parametric excitation of flexural modes and escape from the pre-buckling potential well. Calculations are carried out for the principal and secondary instability regions associated with the lowest natural frequency of the shell. Special attention is given to the determination of the instability boundaries in control space and the identification of the bifurcational events connected with these boundaries. The results clarify the importance of modal coupling in the post-buckling solution and the strong role of nonlinearities on the dynamics of cylindrical shells.  相似文献

Summary A finite element formulation is derived for the thermoelastic analysis of functionally graded (FG) plates and shells. The power-law distribution model is assumed for the composition of the constitutent materials in the thickness direction. The procedure adopted to derive the finite element formulation contains the analytical through-the-thickness integration inherently. Such formulation accounts for the large gradient of the material properties of FG plates and shells through the thickness without using the Gauss points in the thickness direction. The explicit through-the-thickness integration becomes possible due to the proper decomposition of the material properties into the product of a scalar variable and a constant matrix through the thickness. The nonlinear heat-transfer equation is solved for thermal distribution through the thickness by the Rayleigh-Ritz method. According to the results, the formulation accounts for the nonlinear variation in the stress components through the thickness especially for regions with a variation in martial propperties near the free surfaces.  相似文献

The nonlinear vibration of the inextensional beam on the elastic foundation under parametric resonance and two-to-one internal resonance is investigated. Considering the inextensional condition and the second-order moment of the subgrade reaction, the extended Hamilton principle is applied to derive the motion equation of the beam on elastic foundation. Then the multimodal discretization and the method of multiple scales are used to obtain the modulation equations. The nonlinear response is examined by means of the frequency- and force–response curves. It is shown that the two-mode solution is born when the single-mode solution undergoes the pitchfork bifurcation. The shooting method and numerical simulations are applied to investigate the dynamic solutions. Particular attention is placed on the effects of the cut-off frequency on the nonlinear response.  相似文献

In this study, the torsional vibration and stability problems of functionally graded (FG) orthotropic cylindrical shells in the elastic medium, using the Galerkin method was investigated. Pasternak model is used to describe the reaction of the elastic medium on the cylindrical shell. Mixed boundary conditions are considered. The material properties and density of the orthotropic cylindrical shell are assumed to vary exponentially in the thickness direction. The basic equations of the FG orthotropic cylindrical shell under the torsional load resting on the Pasternak-type elastic foundation are derived. The expressions for the critical torsional load and dimensionless torsional frequency parameter of the FG orthotropic cylindrical shell resting on elastic foundations are obtained. The effects of variations of shell parameters, the exponential factor characterizing the degree of material gradient, orthotropy, foundation stiffness and shear subgrade modulus of the foundation on the critical torsional load and dimensionless torsional frequency parameter are examined.  相似文献

A theoretical model for geometrically nonlinear vibration analysis of thermo-piezoelectrically actuated circular plates made of functionally grade material (FGM) is presented based on Kirchhoff’s–Love hypothesis with von-Karman type geometrical large nonlinear deformations. The material properties of the FG core plate are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction according to the power-law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. Dynamic equations and boundary conditions including thermal, elastic and piezoelectric couplings are formulated and solutions are derived. An exact series expansion method combined with perturbation approach is used to model the nonlinear thermo-electro-mechanical vibration behavior of the structure. Control of the FG plate’s nonlinear deflections and natural frequencies using high control voltages is studied and their nonlinear effects are evaluated. Numerical results for FG plates with various mixtures of ceramic and metal are presented in dimensionless forms. A parametric study is also undertaken to highlight the effects of the thermal environment, applied actuator voltage and material composition of the FG core plate on the nonlinear vibration characteristics of the composite structure.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the transient deformation of functionally graded (FG) shallow spherical shells subjected to time-dependent thermomechanical load. Based on Timoshenko- Mindlin hypothesis and yon Karman nonlinear theory, a set of nonlinear governing equations of motion for FG shallow spherical shells in regard to transverse shear deformation and all the inertia terms are established using Hamilton's principle. The collocation point method and Newmark- beta scheme in conjunction with the finite difference method are adopted to solve the governing equations of motion and the unsteady heat conduction equation numerically. In the numerical examples, the transient deflection and stresses of FG shallow spherical shells with various material properties under different loading conditions are presented.  相似文献
