The paper investigates the existence of Love wave propagation in an initially stressed homogeneous layer over a porous half-space with irregular boundary surfaces. The method of separation of variables has been adopted to get an analytical solution for the dispersion equation and thus dispersion equations have been obtained in several particular cases. Propagation of Love wave is influenced by initial stress parameters, corrugation parameter and porosity of half-space. Velocity of Love waves have been plotted in several figures to study the effect of various parameters and found that the velocity of wave decreases with increases of non-dimensional wave number. It has been observed that the phase velocity decreases with increase of initial stress parameters and porosity of half-space.  相似文献

The present paper studies the propagation of shear waves (SH-type waves) in an homogeneous isotropic medium sandwiched between two semi infinite media. The upper half-space is considered as orthotropic medium under initial stress and lower half-space considered as heterogeneous medium. We have obtained the dispersion equation of phase velocity for SH-type waves. The propagation of SH-type waves are influenced by inhomogeneity parameters and initial stress parameter. The velocity of SH-type wave has been computed for different cases. We have also obtained the dispersion equation of phase velocity in homogeneous media in the absence of initial stress. The velocities of SH-type waves are calculated numerically as a function of kH (non-dimensional wave number) and presented in a number of graphs. To study the effect of inhomogeneity parameters and initial stress parameter we have plotted the velocity of SH-type wave in several figure. We have observed that the velocity of wave increases with the increase inhomogeneity parameters. We found that in both homogeneous and inhomogeneous media the velocity of SH-type wave increases with the increase of initial stress parameter. The results may be useful for the study of seismic waves propagation during any earthquake and artificial explosions.  相似文献

In the present paper we study the effect of rigid boundary on the propagation of torsional waves in a homogeneous layer over a semi-infinite heterogeneous half-space, where the heterogeneity is both in rigidity and density. The present study demonstrates that torsional waves can propagate in the layer. The velocities of torsional waves have been calculated numerically as a functions of KH, (where K is the wave number and H is the thickness of the layer) and are presented in a number of graphs. It is also observed that, for a layer over a homogeneous half-space, the velocity of torsional waves does not coincide with that of Love waves in the presence of the rigid boundary whereas it does at the free boundary.  相似文献

The paper presents the effect of a rigid boundary on the propagation of torsional surface waves in a porous elastic layer over a porous elastic half-space using the mechanics of the medium derived by Cowin and Nunziato (Cowin, S. C. and Nunziato, J. W. Linear elastic materials with voids. Journal of Elasticity, 13(2), 125–147 (1983)). The velocity equation is derived, and the results are discussed. It is observed that there may be two torsional surface wave fronts in the medium whereas three wave fronts of torsional surface waves in the absence of the rigid boundary plane given by Dey et al. (Dey, S., Gupta, S., Gupta, A. K., Kar, S. K., and De, P. K. Propagation of torsional surface waves in an elastic layer with void pores over an elastic half-space with void pores. Tamkang Journal of Science and Engineering, 6(4), 241–249 (2003)). The results also reveal that in the porous layer, the Love wave is also available along with the torsional surface waves. It is remarkable that the phase speed of the Love wave in a porous layer with a rigid surface is different from that in a porous layer with a free surface. The torsional waves are observed to be dispersive in nature, and the velocity decreases as the oscillation frequency increases.  相似文献

The behavior of Rayleigh surface waves and the first mode of the Love waves in isotropic media with positive and negative Poisson’s ratio is compared. It is shown that the Rayleigh wave velocity increases with decreasing Poisson’s ratio, and it increases especially rapidly for negative Poisson’s ratios less than ?0.75. It is demonstrated that, for positive Poisson’s ratios, the vertical component of the Rayleigh wave displacements decays with depth after some initial increase, while for negative Poisson’s ratios, there is a monotone decrease. The Rayleigh waves are characterized by elliptic trajectories of the particle motion with the change of the rotation direction at critical depths and by the linear vertical polarization at these depths. It is found that the elliptic orbits are less elongated and the critical depths are greater for negative Poisson’s ratios. It is shown that the stress distribution in the Rayleighwaves varies nonmonotonically with the dimensionless depth as (positive or negative) Poisson’s ratio varies. The stresses increase strongly only as Poisson’s ratio tends to?1. It is shown that, in the case of an incompressible thin covering layer, the velocity of the first mode of the Love waves strongly increases for negative Poisson’s ratios of the half-space material. If the thickness of the incompressible layer is large, then the wave very weakly penetrates into the halfspace for any value of its Poisson’s ratio. For negative Poisson’s ratios, the Love wave in a layer and a half-space is mainly localized in the covering layer for any values of its thickness and weakly penetrates into the half-space. For the first mode of the Love waves, it was discovered that there is a strong increase in the maximum of one of the shear stresses on the interface between the covering layer and the half-space as Poisson’s ratios of both materials decrease. For the other shear stress, there is a stress jump on the interface and a more complicated dependence of the stress on Poisson’s ratio on both sides of the interface.  相似文献

The propagation behavior of Love waves in a functionally graded material layered non-piezoelectric half-space with initial stress is taken into account. The Wentzel–Kramers–Brillouin (WKB) technique is adopted for the theoretical derivations. The analytical solutions are obtained for the dispersion relations and the distributions of the mechanical displacement and stress along the thickness direction in the layered structure. First, these solutions are used to study the effects of the initial stress on the dispersion relations and the group and phase velocities, then the influences of the initial stress on the distributions of the mechanical displacement and shear stresses along the thickness direction are discussed in detail. Numerical results obtained indicate that the phase velocity of the Love waves increases with the increase in the magnitude of the initial tensile stress, while decreases with the increase in the magnitude of the initial compression stress. The effects on the dispersion relations of the Love wave propagation are negligible as the magnitudes of the initial stress are less than 100 MPa. Some other results are obtained for the distributions of field quantities along thickness direction. The results obtained are not only meaningful for the design of functionally graded structures with high performance but also effective for the evaluation of residual stress distribution in the layered structures.  相似文献

The propagation behavior of Love waves in a layered piezoelectric structure with an initial stress is investigated in this article. It involves a thin piezoelectric layer bonded perfectly to an elastic substrate. Solutions of the mechanical displacement and electrical potential function are obtained for the piezoelectric layer and elastic substrate by solving the coupled electromechanical field equations. The phase velocity equations of the Love wave propagation and the stress fields in the layered piezoelectric structure are obtained for electrical open and short cases on the free surface, respectively. The effect of the initial stress on the phase velocity, the stress fields and the coupled electromechanical factor are discussed, respectively. Three sets of piezoelectric layer–elastic substrate systems are considered, i.e. BaTiO3 ceramic layer–borosilicate glass substrate, PZT-5H ceramic layer–borosilicate glass substrate, and PZT-5H ceramic layer–SiO2 glass substrate. It is seen that the phase velocity of the Love wave propagation decreases with the increase of the magnitude of the initial stress. The coupled electromechanical factor increases remarkably, as the magnitude of the initial the stress is greater than 100 MPa. This is useful for the design of acoustic surface wave devices.  相似文献

In this paper, a mathematical model for Love wave propagation in a porous elastic layer under a rigid boundary resting over a poro-elastic half-space has been developed. The study shows that such a medium transmits two types of Love waves. The first front depends on the change in volume fraction of the pores whereas the second front depends upon the modulus of rigidity of the elastic matrix of the medium and is the same as the Love wave in an elastic layer over an elastic half-space. It is observed that the first front is many times faster than the shear wave in the medium with void pores due to the change in the volume fraction of the pores and is significant.  相似文献

The propagation of surface acoustic waves in a layered half-space is investigated in this paper, where a thin cubic Ge film is perfectly bonded to an isotropic elastic Si half-space. Application of the transfer matrix and by solving the coupled field equations, solutions to the mechanical displacements are obtained for the film and elastic substrate, respectively. The phase velocity equations for surface acoustic waves are obtained. Effects of the homogeneous initial stresses induced by the mismatch of the film and substrate are discussed in detail. The results are useful for the design of acoustic surface wave devices.  相似文献

The present paper framed to study the impact of heterogeneity on propagation of Love wave in a heterogeneous micropolar layer over an elastic inhomogeneous stratum, when both rigidity and density are assumed to vary linearly with depth. The equations of motion have been formulated separately for layer and half-space under suitable boundary conditions. Analytical solution for the dispersion equation has been obtained using method of separation of variables by means of the Airy function and Whittaker function. Some particular cases have also been investigated. Further, as a special case the velocity equation for isotropic layer over a homogeneous half-space coincides with the standard result of Love wave. Numerical calculations of frequency relation have been performed and depicted by means of graphs to exhibit the substantial impact of heterogeneity, micropolar parameters and wave number on the phase velocity of Love wave. The wave velocity is strongly influenced by these parameters.  相似文献

The present paper is concerned with the propagation of torsional surface waves in a heterogeneous anisotropic half-space under the initial compressive stress. The heterogeneity in the half-space is caused by the linear variation in rigidity, initial compressive stress and density. The solution part of the problem involves the use of Whittaker function. The dispersion equation has been obtained in a closed form, which shows the variation of phase velocity with corresponding wave number. Effects of anisotropy and initial stress have been shown by the means of graphs for different anisotropic materials. It has found that the phase velocity of torsional waves decreases with increment in initial stress and inhomogeneity. Obtained phase velocity of torsional surface wave is found to be less than the shear wave velocity, which agrees with the standard result.  相似文献

The mixture theory is employed to the analysis of surface-wave propagation in a porous medium saturated by two compressible and viscous fluids (liquid and gas). A linear isothermal dynamic model is implemented which takes into account the interaction between the pore fluids and the solid phase of the porous material through viscous dissipation. In such unsaturated cases, the dispersion equations of Rayleigh and Love waves are derived respectively. Two situations for the Love waves are discussed in detail: (a) an elastic layer lying over an unsaturated porous half-space and (b) an unsaturated porous layer lying over an elastic half-space. The wave analysis indicates that, to the three compressional waves discovered in the unsaturated porous medium, there also correspond three Rayleigh wave modes (R1, R2, and R3 waves) propagating along its free surface. The numerical results demonstrate a significant dependence of wave velocities and attenuation coefficients of the Rayleigh and Love waves on the saturation degree, excitation frequency and intrinsic permeability. The cut-off frequency of the high order mode of Love waves is also found to be dependent on the saturation degree.  相似文献

By introducing the equivalent stiffness of an elastic half-space interacting with a Timoshenko beam, the displacement solution of the beam resting on an elastic half-space subjected to a moving load is presented. Based on the relative relation of wave velocities of the half-space and the beam, four cases with the combination of different parameters of the half-space and the beam, the system of soft beam and hard half-space, the system of sub-soft beam and hard half-space, the system of sub-hard beam and soft half-space, and the system of hard beam and soft half-space are considered. The critical velocities of the moving load are studied using dispersion curves. It is found that critical velocities of the moving load on the Timoshenko beam depend on the relative relation of wave velocities of the half-space and the beam. The Rayleigh wave velocity in the half-space is always a critical velocity and the response of the system will be infinite when the load velocity reaches it. For the system of soft beam and hard half-space, wave velocities of the beam are also critical velocities. Besides the shear wave velocity of the beam, there is an additional minimum critical velocity for the system of sub-soft beam and hard half-space. While for systems of (sub-) hard beams and soft half-space, wave velocities of the beam are no longer critical ones. Comparison with the Euler-Bernoulli beam shows that the critical velocities and response of the two types of beams are much different for the system of (sub-) soft beam and hard half-space but are similar to each other for the system of (sub-) hard beam and soft half space. The largest displacement of the beam is almost at the location of the load and the displacement along the beam is almost symmetrical if the load velocity is smaller than the minimum critical velocity (the shear wave velocity of the beam for the system of soft beam and hard half-space). The largest displacement of the beam shifts behind the load and the asymmetry of the displacement along the beam increases with the increase of the load velocity due to the damping and wave radiation. The displacement of the beam at the front of the load is very small if the load velocity is larger than the largest wave velocity of the beam and the half space. The results of the present study provide attractive theoretical and practical references for the analysis of ground vibration induced by the high-speed train.  相似文献

Love waves are dispersive interfacial waves that are a mode of response for anti-plane motions of an elastic layer bonded to an elastic half-space. Similarly, Stoneley waves are interfacial waves in bonded contact of dissimilar elastic half-spaces, when the displacements are in the plane of the solids. It is shown that in slow sliding, long-wavelength Love and Stoneley waves are destabilized by friction. Friction is assumed to have a positive instantaneous logarithmic dependence on slip rate and a logarithmic rate weakening behavior at steady-state.Long-wavelength instabilities occur generically in sliding with rate- and state-dependent friction, even when an interfacial wave does not exist. For slip at low rates, such instabilities are quasi-static in nature, i.e., the phase velocity is negligibly small in comparison to a shear wave speed. The existence of an interfacial wave in bonded contact permits an instability to propagate with a speed of the order of a shear wave speed even in slow sliding, indicating that the quasi-static approximation is not valid in such problems.  相似文献

We theoretically study the existence conditions for Love waves in a layer with arbitrary thickness and arbitrary physical and mechanical properties on a regularly laminated half-space. Also we analyze the behavior of the dispersion curves depending on the physical and geometrical properties of the layer and the mechanical properties of the upper layer of the half-space. It is demonstrated that the behavior of the spectrum and the ranges of surface waves can efficiently be controlled by varying the thickness of the layer.Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika, Vol. 40, No. 9, pp. 131–136, September 2004.  相似文献

The effect of gravity, heterogeneity and internal friction on propagation of SH-waves (horizontally polarised shear waves) in viscoelastic layer over a half-space has been studied. Using the method of separation of variables, dispersion equation has been obtained and used to recover the damped velocity of SH-waves. Both the real and imaginary parts of dispersion equation are in well agreement with the classical Love wave equation. It has been observed that heterogeneity of the medium affects the velocity profile of SH-wave significantly. Some other peculiarities have been observed and discussed in our study.  相似文献

Propagation of electro-elastic surface Love waves in a structure consisting of a piezoelectric half-space substrate of crystal class 6, 4, 6 mm or 4 mm and two layers, one of which (adjacent to the substrate) is a conducting material and the second is either a conducting or a dielectric material, is considered. The mathematical model obtained includes all the above crystal classes i.e. the surface wave problems related to all these classes are presented in a single mathematical model. The dispersion equation for the existence of Love surface waves with respect to phase velocity is obtained. Numerical calculations are carried out for three different layered structures. The effect of the second layer on the propagation behaviour of the surface Love wave in the structure is revealed.  相似文献

The dispersive behavior of finite-amplitude time-harmonic Love waves propagating in a pre-stressed compressible elastic half-space overlaid with two compressible elastic surface layers of finite thickness is investigated. The half-space and layers are made of different pre-stressed compressible neo-Hookean materials. The dispersion relation which relates wave speed and wavenumber is obtained in explicit form. Results for the energy density and energy flux of the waves are also presented. The special case where the interfaces between the layers and the half-space are principal planes of the left Cauchy–Green deformation tensor is also investigated. Numerical results are presented showing the variation of the Love wave speed with the pre-stress and the propagation angle.  相似文献

The propagation of Love waves is investigated involving a triple superficial layer on a half-space, the entire system being elastic and highly stressed in two horizontal directions. The non-linear problem is illustrated numerically. A graph displays the phase velocity dependence on the wave length.  相似文献
