In this paper, a mathematical model for Love wave propagation in a porous elastic layer under a rigid boundary resting over a poro-elastic half-space has been developed. The study shows that such a medium transmits two types of Love waves. The first front depends on the change in volume fraction of the pores whereas the second front depends upon the modulus of rigidity of the elastic matrix of the medium and is the same as the Love wave in an elastic layer over an elastic half-space. It is observed that the first front is many times faster than the shear wave in the medium with void pores due to the change in the volume fraction of the pores and is significant.  相似文献

The paper presents the effect of a rigid boundary on the propagation of torsional surface waves in a porous elastic layer over a porous elastic half-space using the mechanics of the medium derived by Cowin and Nunziato (Cowin, S. C. and Nunziato, J. W. Linear elastic materials with voids. Journal of Elasticity, 13(2), 125–147 (1983)). The velocity equation is derived, and the results are discussed. It is observed that there may be two torsional surface wave fronts in the medium whereas three wave fronts of torsional surface waves in the absence of the rigid boundary plane given by Dey et al. (Dey, S., Gupta, S., Gupta, A. K., Kar, S. K., and De, P. K. Propagation of torsional surface waves in an elastic layer with void pores over an elastic half-space with void pores. Tamkang Journal of Science and Engineering, 6(4), 241–249 (2003)). The results also reveal that in the porous layer, the Love wave is also available along with the torsional surface waves. It is remarkable that the phase speed of the Love wave in a porous layer with a rigid surface is different from that in a porous layer with a free surface. The torsional waves are observed to be dispersive in nature, and the velocity decreases as the oscillation frequency increases.  相似文献

Two problems on plane decaying surface waves in an inhomogeneous medium are under consideration: the problem where the waves similar to Rayleigh waves propagate in an isotropic elastic half-space that borders with a layer of an ideal incompressible fluid and the problem where the waves similar to Love waves propagate in a semi-infinite saturated porous medium that borders with a layer of an isotropic elastic medium.  相似文献

Based on the poroelasticity theory, this article investigates the reflection and transmission characteristics of an incident plane transverse wave at a plane interface between an isotropic elastic half-space and an unsaturated poroelastic solid half-space. For this purpose, the effect of the saturation degree and frequency on the properties of the four bulk waves in unsaturated porous medium, i.e., three longitudinal waves and one transverse wave, are discussed at first. Two general cases of mode conversion are considered: (i) The initial transverse wave is incident from an unsaturated poroelastic half-space to the interface, and (ii) the initial transverse wave is incident from an elastic solid half-space to the interface. The expressions for the partition of energy at the interface during transmission and reflection process of waves are presented in explicit forms. At last, numerical computations are performed for these two cases and the results obtained are depicted, respectively. The variation of the amplitude ratios and energy ratios with the saturation degree and incident angle is illustrated in detail. It is also verified that, at the interface, the sum of energy ratios is approximately equal to unity as expected.  相似文献

The propagation of elastic waves is studied in a porous solid saturated with two immiscible viscous fluids. The propagation of three longitudinal waves is represented through three scalar potential functions. The lone transverse wave is presented by a vector potential function. The displacements of particles in different phases of the aggregate are defined in terms of these potential functions. It is shown that there exist three longitudinal waves and one transverse wave. The phenomena of reflection and refraction due to longitudinal and transverse waves at a plane interface between an elastic solid half-space and a porous solid half-space saturated with two immiscible viscous fluids are investigated. For the presence of viscosity in pore-fluids,the waves refracted to the porous medium attenuate in the direction normal to the interface. The ratios of the amplitudes of the reflected and refracted waves to that of the incident wave are calculated as a nonsingular system of linear algebraic equations. These amplitude ratios are used to further calculate the shares of different scattered waves in the energy of the incident wave. The modulus of the amplitude and the energy ratios with the angle of incidence are computed for a particular numerical model. The conservation of the energy across the interface is verified. The effects of variations in non-wet saturation of pores and frequencies on the energy partition are depicted graphically and discussed.  相似文献

The theory of Tuncay and Corapcioglu (Transp Porous Media 23:237–258, 1996a) has been employed to investigate the possibility of plane wave propagation in a fractured porous medium containing two immiscible fluids. Solid phase of the porous medium is assumed to be linearly elastic, isotropic and the fractures are assumed to be distributed isotropically throughout the medium. It has been shown that there can exist four compressional waves and one rotational wave. The phase speeds of these waves are found to be affected by the presence of fractures, in general. Of the four compressional waves, one arises due to the presence of fractures in the medium and the remaining three are those encountered by Tuncay and Corapcioglu (J Appl Mech 64:313–319, 1997). Reflection and transmission phenomena at a plane interface between a uniform elastic half-space and a fractured porous half-space containing two immiscible fluids, are analyzed due to incidence of plane longitudinal/transverse wave from uniform elastic half-space. Variation of modulus of amplitude and energy ratios with the angle of incidence are computed numerically by taking the elastic half-space as granite and the fractured porous half-space as sandstone material containing non-viscous wetting and non-wetting fluid phases. The results obtained in case of porous half-space with fractures, are compared graphically with those in case of porous half-space without fractures. It is found that the presence of fractures in the porous half-space do affect the reflection/transmission of waves, which is responsible for raising the reflection and lowering the transmission coefficients.  相似文献

The paper deals with the plane problem of steady-state time harmonic vibrations of an infinite elastic plate resting on a water-saturated porous solid. The displacements of the plate are described by means of the linear theory of small elastic oscillations. The motion of the two-phase medium is studied within the framework of Biot's linear theory of consolidation. The main interest is focused on the investigation of properties of the Rayleigh-type waves propagating alongside of the contact surface between the plate and the porous half-space. In particular, the dependence of the phase velocity and attenuation of the waves on the plate stiffness, mass coupling coefficient, and degree of saturation of the medium is studied. Besides, for the limiting case of an infinitely thin plate, the comparison of the wave characteristics is carried out with those of the pure Rayleigh waves.  相似文献

The paper investigates the existence of Love wave propagation in an initially stressed homogeneous layer over a porous half-space with irregular boundary surfaces. The method of separation of variables has been adopted to get an analytical solution for the dispersion equation and thus dispersion equations have been obtained in several particular cases. Propagation of Love wave is influenced by initial stress parameters, corrugation parameter and porosity of half-space. Velocity of Love waves have been plotted in several figures to study the effect of various parameters and found that the velocity of wave decreases with increases of non-dimensional wave number. It has been observed that the phase velocity decreases with increase of initial stress parameters and porosity of half-space.  相似文献

The paper studies the propagation of Love waves in a non-homogeneous substratum over an initially stressed heterogeneous half-space. The dispersion equation of phase velocity is derived. The velocities of Love waves are calculated numerically as a function of kH and presented in a number of graphs, where k is the wave number, and H is the thickness of the layer. The case of Gibson’s half-space is also considered. It is observed that the speed of Love waves is finite in the vicinity of the surface of the half-space and vanishes as the depth increases for a particular wave number. It is also observed that an increase in compressive initial stresses causes decreases of Love waves velocity for the same frequency, and the tensile initial stress of small magnitude in the half-space causes increase of the velocity.  相似文献

The behavior of Rayleigh surface waves and the first mode of the Love waves in isotropic media with positive and negative Poisson’s ratio is compared. It is shown that the Rayleigh wave velocity increases with decreasing Poisson’s ratio, and it increases especially rapidly for negative Poisson’s ratios less than ?0.75. It is demonstrated that, for positive Poisson’s ratios, the vertical component of the Rayleigh wave displacements decays with depth after some initial increase, while for negative Poisson’s ratios, there is a monotone decrease. The Rayleigh waves are characterized by elliptic trajectories of the particle motion with the change of the rotation direction at critical depths and by the linear vertical polarization at these depths. It is found that the elliptic orbits are less elongated and the critical depths are greater for negative Poisson’s ratios. It is shown that the stress distribution in the Rayleighwaves varies nonmonotonically with the dimensionless depth as (positive or negative) Poisson’s ratio varies. The stresses increase strongly only as Poisson’s ratio tends to?1. It is shown that, in the case of an incompressible thin covering layer, the velocity of the first mode of the Love waves strongly increases for negative Poisson’s ratios of the half-space material. If the thickness of the incompressible layer is large, then the wave very weakly penetrates into the halfspace for any value of its Poisson’s ratio. For negative Poisson’s ratios, the Love wave in a layer and a half-space is mainly localized in the covering layer for any values of its thickness and weakly penetrates into the half-space. For the first mode of the Love waves, it was discovered that there is a strong increase in the maximum of one of the shear stresses on the interface between the covering layer and the half-space as Poisson’s ratios of both materials decrease. For the other shear stress, there is a stress jump on the interface and a more complicated dependence of the stress on Poisson’s ratio on both sides of the interface.  相似文献

The present paper framed to study the impact of heterogeneity on propagation of Love wave in a heterogeneous micropolar layer over an elastic inhomogeneous stratum, when both rigidity and density are assumed to vary linearly with depth. The equations of motion have been formulated separately for layer and half-space under suitable boundary conditions. Analytical solution for the dispersion equation has been obtained using method of separation of variables by means of the Airy function and Whittaker function. Some particular cases have also been investigated. Further, as a special case the velocity equation for isotropic layer over a homogeneous half-space coincides with the standard result of Love wave. Numerical calculations of frequency relation have been performed and depicted by means of graphs to exhibit the substantial impact of heterogeneity, micropolar parameters and wave number on the phase velocity of Love wave. The wave velocity is strongly influenced by these parameters.  相似文献

Wave propagation in a porous elastic medium saturated by two immiscible fluids is investigated. It is shown that there exist three dilatational waves and one transverse wave propagating with different velocities. It is found that the velocities of all the three longitudinal waves are influenced by the capillary pressure, while the velocity of transverse wave does not at all. The problem of reflection and refraction phenomena due to longitudinal and transverse wave incident obliquely at a plane interface between uniform elastic solid half-space and porous elastic half-space saturated by two immiscible fluids has been analyzed. The amplitude ratios of various reflected and refracted waves are found to be continuous functions of the angle of incidence. Expression of energy ratios of various reflected and refracted waves are derived in closed form. The amplitude ratios and energy ratios have been computed numerically for a particular model and the results obtained are depicted graphically. It is verified that during transmission there is no dissipation of energy at the interface. Some particular cases have also been reduced from the present formulation.  相似文献

Time harmonic waves in a swelling porous elastic medium of infinite extent and consisting of solid, liquid and gas phases have been studied. Employing Eringen’s theory of swelling porous media, it has been shown that there exist three dilatational and two shear waves propagating with distinct velocities. The velocities of these waves are found to be frequency dependent and complex valued, showing that the waves are attenuating in nature. Here, the appearance of an additional shear wave is new and arises due to swelling phenomena of the medium, which disappears in the absence of swelling. The reflection phenomenon of an incident dilatational wave from a stress-free plane boundary of a porous elastic half-space has been investigated for two types of boundary surfaces: (i) surface having open pores and (ii) surface having sealed pores. Using appropriate boundary conditions for these boundary surfaces, the equations giving the reflection coefficients corresponding to various reflected waves are presented. Numerical computations are performed for a specific model consisting of sandstone, water and carbon dioxide as solid, liquid and gas phases, respectively, of the porous medium. The variations of phase speeds and their corresponding attenuation coefficients are depicted against frequency parameter for all the existing waves. The variations of reflection coefficients and corresponding energy ratios against the angle of incidence are also computed and depicted graphically. It has been shown that in a limiting case, Eringen’s theory of swelling porous media reduces to Tuncay and Corapcioglu theory of porous media containing two immiscible fluids. The various numerical results under these two theories have been compared graphically.  相似文献

An analytical theory is presented for the low-frequency behavior of dilatational waves propagating through a homogeneous elastic porous medium containing two immiscible fluids. The theory is based on the Berryman–Thigpen–Chin (BTC) model, in which capillary pressure effects are neglected. We show that the BTC model equations in the frequency domain can be transformed, at sufficiently low frequencies, into a dissipative wave equation (telegraph equation) and a propagating wave equation in the time domain. These partial differential equations describe two independent modes of dilatational wave motion that are analogous to the Biot fast and slow compressional waves in a single-fluid system. The equations can be solved analytically under a variety of initial and boundary conditions. The stipulation of “low frequency” underlying the derivation of our equations in the time domain is shown to require that the excitation frequency of wave motions be much smaller than a critical frequency. This frequency is shown to be the inverse of an intrinsic time scale that depends on an effective kinematic shear viscosity of the interstitial fluids and the intrinsic permeability of the porous medium. Numerical calculations indicate that the critical frequency in both unconsolidated and consolidated materials containing water and a nonaqueous phase liquid ranges typically from kHz to MHz. Thus engineering problems involving the dynamic response of an unsaturated porous medium to low excitation frequencies (e.g., seismic wave stimulation) should be accurately modeled by our equations after suitable initial and boundary conditions are imposed.  相似文献

Love waves are dispersive interfacial waves that are a mode of response for anti-plane motions of an elastic layer bonded to an elastic half-space. Similarly, Stoneley waves are interfacial waves in bonded contact of dissimilar elastic half-spaces, when the displacements are in the plane of the solids. It is shown that in slow sliding, long-wavelength Love and Stoneley waves are destabilized by friction. Friction is assumed to have a positive instantaneous logarithmic dependence on slip rate and a logarithmic rate weakening behavior at steady-state.Long-wavelength instabilities occur generically in sliding with rate- and state-dependent friction, even when an interfacial wave does not exist. For slip at low rates, such instabilities are quasi-static in nature, i.e., the phase velocity is negligibly small in comparison to a shear wave speed. The existence of an interfacial wave in bonded contact permits an instability to propagate with a speed of the order of a shear wave speed even in slow sliding, indicating that the quasi-static approximation is not valid in such problems.  相似文献

This research addresses the investigation of an elastic wave field in a homogeneous and isotropic porous medium which is fully saturated by a Newtonian viscous fluid. A new methodology is developed for describing the wave field in the medium excited by multiple energy sources. To quantify the relative displacements between the fluid and solid of the medium, the governing equations of the elastic wave propagation are derived in the form of displacements specially. The velocities and attenuation of the waves are considered as functions of viscosity and frequency. Making use of the Hankel function and the moving-coordinate method, a model of the wave motion with multiple cylindrical wave sources is built. Making use of the model established in this research, the relative displacement between the fluid and the solid can be quantified, and the wave field in the porous media can then be determined with the given energy sources. Numerical simulations of cylindrical waves from multiple energy sources propagating in the porous medium saturated by viscous fluid are performed for demonstrating the practicability of the model developed.  相似文献

The dispersive behavior of finite-amplitude time-harmonic Love waves propagating in a pre-stressed compressible elastic half-space overlaid with two compressible elastic surface layers of finite thickness is investigated. The half-space and layers are made of different pre-stressed compressible neo-Hookean materials. The dispersion relation which relates wave speed and wavenumber is obtained in explicit form. Results for the energy density and energy flux of the waves are also presented. The special case where the interfaces between the layers and the half-space are principal planes of the left Cauchy–Green deformation tensor is also investigated. Numerical results are presented showing the variation of the Love wave speed with the pre-stress and the propagation angle.  相似文献
