Waveguides with inner dielectric cylinder(s) for Cerenkov free electron laser are presented. An analysis on the dispersion relations and the distributions of the axial electric field components of the waveguide modes, which are important to determine the operating frequency and gain, has been carried out. The results show that the waveguides can be employed to generate radiations at lower millimeter wavelength with higher gain and larger power output.  相似文献

When a free electron laser (FEL) interaction occurs inside a waveguide, there are two possible operating frequencies at the two intersections of the beam line with the waveguide dispersion curve. Using a one-dimensional model valid for a low-gain oscillator, the mode competition between the high- and low-frequency waves is studied. It is found that the low-frequency wave can be nonlinearly suppressed, even when its linear growth rate is positive. When the frequency ratio is two, phase locking occurs and the nonlinear gain of the low-frequency wave can exceed its linear growth rate  相似文献

The modification of the transverse wave profile by the free electron laser (FEL) interaction in the collective Raman regime is considered. The gain is calculated and the transverse wave profile is found by solving for the eigenvalues and the actual eigenmodes of the system. When a waveguide is employed, a strong FEL interaction is shown to couple various vacuum waveguide modes, as was demonstrated by A. Bhattacharjee et al. (1988). When no waveguide or cavity is present, a coupling parameter which measures the strength of the interaction is identified. Expressions are derived for the gain for large and small values of the coupling parameter, corresponding to a strong optical guiding and large diffraction, respectively. Comparing the present results for the Raman regime with previous results for the strong pump regime, it is shown that the gain scales differently in each case, depending on both the regime of operation and on the beam geometry. The linear analysis is valid when the signal is small, and is useful mainly when the gain is high prior to saturation  相似文献

Linearized Vlasov-Maxwell equations are solved to obtain the growth rate of free electron laser instability from a tenuous relativistic electron beam propagating in a partially dielectric loaded waveguide immersed in combined axial and longitudinal wiggler magnetic fields. The instability appears via cyclotron resonance interactions for wave perturbations very close to w-kVz-wc=nk 0VZ where n is the general harmonic number. For n=0, the gain is similar to a slow wave cyclotron amplifier. 在硅波导上添加反向偏压的PIN结构,当波导产生受激喇曼散射时,可以将波导中双光子吸收(TPA)产生的光生自由载流子扫出波导,降低了波导的非线性损失,极大地提高了硅波导中泵浦光对信号光的喇曼增益。为了应用已经非常成熟的硅工艺,并且应用硅波导使器件小型化,根据法布里-帕罗(F-P)腔和行波放大器理论,在硅波导两端的解理面蒸镀增透膜,应用这种波导的喇曼效应设计了一种光放大器,即基于硅波导的喇曼光放大器。建立了计算放大器增益的方程,给出了不同波导长度和输入功率情况下的放大器增益,得出适当增加波导长度和泵浦光功率可以得到较高喇曼增益的结论。基于硅的光放大器有较高的饱和功率且没有泵浦源的限制,通过调整泵浦激光的波长可以放大不同波长的信号光。  相似文献

激光等离子体加速器能够在cm尺度内产生GeV量级的高品质电子束,为研制台式化自由电子激光提供驱动源。但是受限于激光等离子体加速中的难点和现有技术发展,电子束的品质难以达到自由电子激光的需求,尤其在稳定性、发散角和能散等方面,阻碍了台式化自由电子激光的研制。介绍了基于激光等离子体加速器的自由电子激光的最新进展,整理了目前高增益自由电子激光实验过程中存在的主要挑战和对应的解决方案与实验进展,并展望未来的发展方向。最近的研究结果证明,通过控制和优化激光等离子体加速器的注入和加速过程产生的高品质电子束可以在指数增益区域实现自发辐射放大,产生高增益的辐射,这也推动基于激光等离子体加速器的自由电子激光研究进入了一个新的阶段。  相似文献

A method proposed recently is used for the evaluation of the small signal gain in various free electron laser configurations. The theory is applied to (a) the wigglerfree free electron laser with a uniform axial guide magnetic field and arbitrary direction of propagation of the amplified radiation and (b) the free electron laser with the axially modulated guide field (lowbitron). It is demonstrated that the new approach simplifies the gain calculation significantly in comparison with the traditional method.  相似文献

We discuss the gain measurements made on the Orsay storage ring free electron laser, and show that the peak measured gain is identical to that predicted by a modified theory which takes into account the electron trajectory distortions. This is the first free electron laser experiment in which the quality of the data is sufficiently good to permit a detailed verification of the Madey theorem.  相似文献

 提出了用波导本征模展开的方法计算射频调制的短脉冲电子束在矩形波导中的自发辐射。模展开系数决定了辐射进入TE0n模的功率。将短脉冲理想化为时间上的d函数,可以发现当辐射频率正好等于用来调制电子束的射频的整数倍时,辐射模式表现为“纯”的波导本征模,此时辐射功率最强。用此方法估算了设计中的上海远红外波导自由电子激光器的辐射功率。  相似文献

One important issue in waveguide free electron lasers (FELs) involves an interaction of the electron beam with one waveguide mode at two different resonant frequencies. Since the low-frequency mode often has a higher pain, the usually preferred high-frequency mode is suppressed as a result of mode competition. In this paper, possible control of this mode competition is considered using a nonstandard wiggler magnet consisting of two cascaded wiggler sections with different periods and field strengths. It is demonstrated that with an appropriate differentiation between the two wiggler sections the high-frequency mode may be amplified preferentially. This mode-selective amplification may be used to suppress the low-frequency mode. A small signal gain formulation is developed for a waveguide FEL with such a two-sectioned wiggler arrangement and numerical examples are used to demonstrate its applicability to mode control in waveguide FELs. Effects of wiggler field errors and electron energy spread are also considered. It is shown that the requirement for wiggler field errors and electron energy spread in the two-sectioned wiggler arrangement is similar to that in the usual straight wiggler configuration  相似文献

A novel method to produce a flat-topped laser beam by using a double-clad rectangular waveguide laser with high-index inner cladding is presented. The waveguide dispersion equation for cosine mode was deduced, the condition for the flattened mode was given out, relative gains for guided modes were calculated numerically and analyzed. Results indicate that a gain advantage for the flattened mode is clear, a flat-topped laser beam can be achieved when the optical confinement factor, the gain intensity and the output coupler are chosen suitably.  相似文献

We introduce a low refractive index layer between the metal and the gain medium in metal-coated laser resonators and demonstrate that it can significantly reduce the dissipation losses. Analysis of a gain medium waveguide shows that for a given waveguide radius, the low index layer has an optimal thickness for which the lasing threshold gain is minimal. The waveguide analysis is used for the design of a novel three-dimensional cylindrical resonator that is smaller than the vacuum wavelength in all three dimensions and exhibits a low enough threshold gain to lase at room temperature.  相似文献
