Abstract:It is presented a model expansion method that is used to calculate the coherent synchrotron radiation emitted by the radio-frequency (RF) modulating ultrashort pulse electron beam in the rectangular waveguide. The model expansion coefficient determines the radiation power into the TEon modes. Taking the short pulse as an ideal delta function on time scale,we find that the radiation field pattern is just of the “pure”waveguide modes if the resonance frequency equals the integral times of the radio frequency. Finally, the design parameters and the power evaluation of Shanghai RF farinfrared waveguide free electron laser (FEL) are performed.
