We investigate the characteristics of intensity tuning in a single mode microchip Nd:YAG laser with an external cavity. The undulation of laser intensity in a period of A/2 change of the internal cavity length is observed. Two different optical feedback cases are performed. One is an external cavity reflector perfectly aligned and the other is an external cavity reflector tilted. However, the fluctuation frequency of laser intensity in a period of A/2 change of the internal cavity length in these two cases is found to be determined by the ratio of external cavity length to internal cavity length. Meanwhile, for the tilted external cavity, the fluctuation frequency is also related to multiple feedbacks in the tilted external cavity.  相似文献

This paper investigates the intensity tuning characteristics of a double longitudinal modes He--Ne laser subjected to optical feedback. The intensity undulations of the total light and the two modes are observed for different external cavity length. Two modulations of the internal cavity length are performed. One is only for the internal cavity length being modulated and the other is for both the internal and the external cavity length being modulated. The undulation frequency of the total light is found to be determined by the ratio of external cavity length to internal cavity length in both modulations. When the external cavity length is integral times of the internal cavity length, the fringe frequency of the total light could be seven or even more times of that in conventional optical feedback. A simple theoretical analysis is presented, which is in good agreement with the experimental results. The potential use of the experimental results is also discussed.  相似文献

This paper proposes a theoretical analysis for the characteristics of an external cavity Nd:YAG laser with feedback of multiple-beam interference, which is induced by the multi-reentrance of the light from the external Fabry--Perot cavity. The theoretical model considers the multiple beam interference of the external Fabry--Perot cavity. It is found that the optical feedback signals are distorted to pulse waveforms instead of the sinusoidal ones in conventional feedback. The experimental results are in good agreement with the theoretical analysis. The obtained theoretical and experimental results can advance the development of a laser feedback interferometer.  相似文献

The mode hopping phenomenon induced by optical feedback in single-mode microchip Nd:YAG lasers is presented. With optical feedback, mode hopping strongly depends on two factors: the ratio of external cavity length to intra-cavity length, and initial gains of the two hopping modes, When external cavity length equals an integral multiple of intracavity length, there is almost no mode hopping. However, if the external cavity length does not equal an integral multiple of intra-cavity length, mode hopping occurs. The ratio of external cavity length to intra-cavity length determines the position of two-mode hopping, The initial gains of the two hopping modes determine the corresponding peak values and oscillating periods of them in the intensity modulation curves.  相似文献

The utility of a passive fourth-harmonic cavity plays a key role in suppressing longitudinal beam instabilities in the electron storage ring and lengthens the bunch by a factor of 2.6 for the phase Ⅱ project of the Hefei Light Source (HLS Ⅱ ). Meanwhile, instabilities driven by higher-order modes (HOM) may limit the performance of the higher-harmonic cavity. In this paper, the parasitic coupled-bunch instability, which is driven by narrow band parasitic modes, and the microwave instability, which is driven by broadband HOM, are both modeled analytically. The analytic modeling results are in good agreement with those of our previous simulation study and indicate that the passive fourth-harmonic cavity suppresses parasitic coupled-bunch instabilities and microwave instability. The modeling suggests that a fourth-harmonic cavity may be successfully used at the HLS Ⅱ .  相似文献

We study the properties of the atoms and cavity field in the Tavis-Cummings Model where the two atoms interact each other and also are driven by an external classical field.We consider the special case that the cavity is initially in a coherent state.After work out the atomic inversion, the average photons number and the Mandel parameter in the driven Tavis-Cummings Model, we do numerical analysis of them, and pay special attention to the dynamical behavior of the atoms and the cavity field modified by the external field.  相似文献

We investigate the modulation instability of quasi-plane-wave optical beams in biased photorefractive-photovoltaic crystals by globally treating the space-charge field. The modulation instability growth rate is obtained, which depends on the external bias field, on the bulk photovoltaic effect, and on the ratio of the optical beam's intensity to that of the dark irradiance. Our analysis indicates that this modulation instability growth rate is identical to the modulation instability growth rate studied previously in biased photorefractive-nonphotovoltaic crystals when the bulk photovoltaic effect is negligible for shorted circuits, and predicts the modulation instability growth rate in open- and closed-circuit photorefractive-photovoltaic crystals when the external bias field is absent.  相似文献

A broadband external cavity tunable laser is realized by using a broad-emitting spectral InAs/GaAs quantum dot (QD) gain device. A tuning range of 69 nm with a central wavelength of 1056 nm, is achieved at a bias of 1.25 kA/cm2 only by utilizing the light emission from the ground state of QDs. This large tunable range only covers the QD ground-state emission and is related to the inhomogeneous size distribution of QDs. No excited state contributes to the tuning bandwidth. The application of the QD gain device to the external cavity tunable laser shows its immense potential in broadening the tuning bandwidth. By the external cavity feedback, the threshold current density can be reduced remarkably compared with the free-running QD gain device.  相似文献

In the present paper, we investigate the instability, adiabaticity, and controlling effects of external fields for a dark state in a homonuclear atom-tetramer conversion that is implemented by a generalized stimulated Raman adiabatic passage. We analytically obtain the regions for the appearance of dynamical instability and study the adiabatic evolution by a newly defined adiabatic fidelity. Moreover, the effects of the external field parameters and the spontaneous emissions on the conversion efficiency are also investigated.  相似文献

We consider a rate equation model describing broad area vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers subject to injection and to time-delayed optical feedback. We show that the inclusion of an external cavity affects dramatically the space-time behavior of this system by modifying the instability threshold as well as the wavelength of the Turing instability. We show also that the delayed feedback is responsible for the appearance of traveling wave instability. Finally, we demonstrate that a single cavity soliton exhibits a spontaneous motion with a constant velocity. Without delayed feedback transition to the moving cavity soliton does not exist.  相似文献

The motion of a fluid in a rotating spherical cavity with a free light spherical body under the perturbing effect of an external force field perpendicular to the rotation axis is investigated experimentally. It is shown that the external field excites the lagging differential rotation of the core occupying the central position in the cavity under the action of a centrifugal force. The regularities of the averaged rotation of the body and the motion of fluid shaped as the Taylor-Proudman column are investigated. The sequential threshold manifestation of various instability types of the Taylor-Proudman column with an increase in the velocity of the differential body rotation is found. Initially a new type of instability manifests itself, and a two-dimensional system of vortexes elongated along the rotation axis is formed inside the column. Then the development of azimuthal two-dimensional waves at the column boundary is observed. It is shown that the Reynolds number calculated through the velocity of the differential body rotation determines the threshold transitions. A map of motion modes of a fluid in a spherical layer on a plane of dimensionless parameters is plotted.  相似文献

We study the regimes of complex field dynamics upon modulation instability in distributed nonlinear resonators under external harmonic driving. Two regimes are considered: the regime of a nonlinear ring cavity, described by nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) with a delayed boundary condition, and the regime of a one-dimensional Fabri-Perot cavity, described by a system of coupled NLS for the forward and backward waves. Theoretical stability analysis of stationary forced oscillations is carried out. The results of numerical simulation of transition to chaos with increasing input intensity are presented.  相似文献

We consider nonlinear optical processes in a cavity maintained far from thermal equilibrium by external pumping. In second harmonic generation we predict a hard mode instability at a critical pump strength indicating the existence of undamped spiking similar to that in strongly pumped lasers. In subharmonic generation above the soft mode transition noted by Graham we predict the appearance of sidebands in the subharmonic spectrum.  相似文献

Self-pulsing instability in the ytterbium-doped fiber (YDF) laser is investigated with the pump-bypassed cavity configuration. The residual pump light acts as a probe of the intracavity dynamics, and the temporal behavior of the light shows correlations with the self-mode locking instability in the original cavity and the sustained self-pulsing instability in the modified cavity of the YDF laser. The results suggest that the interactions among stimulated emission, pump absorption and/or reabsorption could account for self-pulsing instability in the YDF laser. The pump-bypassed laser cavity configuration can be used to investigate the instabilities of various kinds of fiber lasers.  相似文献

为了提高自混合干涉仪的位移测量精度,提出将正弦相位调制技术引入自混合干涉中。相位调制由置于自混合干涉仪外腔中的电光晶体实现,相位解调由傅里叶分析的方法得到。对位移测量过程中各种可能的误差来源如电光晶体调制不稳定性、光在外腔中的二次反馈效应等对测量精度的影响进行了模拟分析,从理论上得到了这种新的信号处理方法可以达到纳米级的测量精度。实验上,用高精度的商用压电陶瓷标定的结果验证了这种正弦相位调制自混合干涉仪在普通实验室噪声环境中可以达到纳米级的位移测量精度。  相似文献

Strong coupling of the internal and external degrees of freedom of a cold atom to each other and to the spatially periodic field of the standing light wave in a high-finesse cavity is responsible for the dynamic instability of the atomic center-of-mass motion. Due to a weak interaction of the internal nonlinear resonances in the standard model of cavity QED, a stochastic layer appears, whose width in the semiclassical approximation is estimated in terms of the main parameters of the system: atomic recoil frequency, mean number of excitations, and detuning from the resonance. As a result, the atomic motion in the absolutely regular potential has the fractal character, with long Lévy flights alternating with small chaotic oscillations in potential wells.  相似文献

The maximum tolerable amplitude backreflection coefficient r(ext,c) into a fiber distributed-feedback laser before the onset of instability has been investigated. r(ext,c) was found to decrease with increasing external cavity lengths up to ~320 m and to be proportional to the relative linewidth of the relaxation oscillation resonance. The tolerable length of Rayleigh backscattering standard telecom fiber was found to be 135-200 m. An observed degradation in the laser stability and slope efficiency at low pump powers is believed to be due to UV-induced saturable absorbers.  相似文献

The laser frequency could be linked to an radio frequency through an external cavity by the combination of Pound-Drever-Hall and Devoe-Brewer locking techniques. A stable and tunable optical frequency at wavelength of 1.5 μm obtained by a cavity with high finesse of 96000 and a fiber laser has been demonstrated, calibrated by a commercial optical frequency comb. The locking performances have been analyzed by in-loop and out-loop noises, indicating that the absolute frequency instability could be down to 50 kHz over 1 s and keep to less than 110 kHz over 2.5 h. Then, the application of this stabilized laser to the direct absorption spectroscopy has been performed. With the help of balanced detection, the detection sensitivity, in terms of optical density, can reach to 9.4×10-6.  相似文献

实验利用双反馈半导体激光器获得了关联维数为3.8的高维混沌光.同时对比分析了双反馈与单反馈两种不同模式产生混沌的区别.结果表明:在反馈强度均为-26 dB时,双反馈产生混沌的关联维数高于单反馈产生混沌的关联维数2.6;双反馈可获得带宽为11 GHz的混沌光,为单反馈产生混沌带宽5.5 GHz的两倍.当双反馈的两个外腔长度不相等时,混沌的自相关曲线能很好的隐藏外腔长度信息,可提高混沌通信的保密性. 关键词: 双反馈 半导体激光器 混沌 带宽  相似文献
