In our previous work we determined that five important characteristics affect the perception of visual complexity of a texture: regularity, roughness, directionality, density, and understandability. In this paper, a set of objective methods for measuring these characteristics is proposed: regularity is estimated by an autocorrelation function; roughness is computed based on local changes; directionality is measured by the maximum line-likeness of edges in different directions; and density is calculated from the edge density. Our analysis shows a significant correlation between the objective measures and subjective evaluations. In addition, for the estimation of understandability, a new approach is proposed. We asked the respondents to name each texture, and then we sorted all these names into different types, including names that were similar. We discovered that understandability is affected by two factors of a texture: the maximum number of similar names assigned to a specific type and the total number of types.  相似文献

The distribution of Chinese family names is investigated based on data of the fifth national census of China in 2000, including 7329 Chinese family names and 1.28 billion people. The cumulative distribution function (CDF) of family name in multiple scales is presented and the correlation between distribution and scale is discussed. The fitting results show that CDFs at the scales of country, province, city and county all follow stretched exponential truncated power law, while the fitting parameters vary greatly. A characteristic index is proposed to measure the extent the distribution is stretched-exponential-like. The index increases as the scale goes down, indicating that the distribution at lower scale is more stretched-exponential-like, and the distribution at higher scale is more power-law-like. Such correlation between distribution and scale is verified by investigating how the distribution changes as the scale is expanded county by county. Furthermore, the correlation is qualitatively explained by artificially constructing multiple scales with a partition process.  相似文献

We propose a coevolutionary version to investigate the naming game, a model recently introduced to describe how shared vocabulary can emerge and persist spontaneously in communication systems. We base our model on the fact that more popular names have more opportunities to be selected by agents and then spread in the population. A name’s popularity is concerned with its communication frequency, characterized by its weight coevolving with the name. A tunable parameter governs the influence of name weight. We implement this modified version on both scale-free networks and small-world networks, in which interactions proceed between paired agents by means of the reverse naming game. It is found that there exists an optimal value of the parameter that induces the fastest convergence of the population. This illustration indicates that a moderately strong influence of evolving name weight favors the rapid achievement of final consensus, but very strong influences inhibit the convergence process. The rank-distribution of the final accumulated weights of names qualitatively explains this nontrivial phenomenon. Investigations of some pertinent quantities are also provided, including the time evolution of the number of different names and the success rate, as well as the total memory of agents for different parameter values, which are helpful for better understanding the coevolutionary dynamics. Finally, we explore the scaling behavior in the convergence time and conclude a smaller scaling parameter compared to the previous naming game models.  相似文献

We present a statistical model for the distribution of Chinese names. Both family names and given names are studied on the same basis. With naive expectation, the distribution of family names can be very different from that of given names. One is affected mostly by genealogy, while the other can be dominated by cultural effects. However, we find that both distributions can be well described by the same model. Various scaling behaviors can be understood as a result of stochastic processes. The exponents of different power-law distributions are controlled by a single parameter. We also comment on the significance of full-name repetition in Chinese population.  相似文献

In this special issue, we delve into the subject of ultra-low-emittance storage ring light sources. While these go under various names, such as “diffraction-limited storage rings” and “ultimate storage rings,” perhaps the most universally applicable name is “fourth-generation storage rings” or 4GSRs. The face is a fundamental feature of our identity. In humans, the existence of specialized processing modules for faces is now widely accepted. However, identifying the processes involved for proper names is more problematic. The aim of the present study is to examine which of the two treatments is produced earlier and whether the social abilities are influent. We selected 100 university students divided into two groups: Spanish and USA students. They had to recognize famous faces or names by using a masked priming task. An analysis of variance about the reaction times (RT) was used to determine whether significant differences could be observed in word or face recognition and between the Spanish or USA group. Additionally, and to examine the role of outliers, the Gaussian distribution has been modified exponentially. Famous faces were recognized faster than names, and differences were observed between Spanish and North American participants, but not for unknown distracting faces. The current results suggest that response times to face processing might be faster than name recognition, which supports the idea of differences in processing nature.  相似文献

We clarify different definitions of the density matrix by proposing the use of different names, the full density matrix for a single-closed quantum system, the compressed density matrix for the averaged single molecule state from an ensemble of molecules, and the reduced density matrix for a part of an entangled quantum system, respectively. We show that ensembles with the same compressed density matrix can be physically distinguished by observing fluctuations of various observables. This is in contrast to a general belief that ensembles with the same compressed density matrix are identical. Explicit expression for the fluctuation of an observable in a specified ensemble is given. We have discussed the nature of nuclear magnetic resonance quantum computing. We show that the conclusion that there is no quantum entanglement in the current nuclear magnetic resonance quantum computing experiment is based on the unjustified belief that ensembles having the same compressed density matrix are identical physically. Related issues in quantum communication are also discussed.  相似文献

According to many phenomenological and theoretical studies the distribution of family name frequencies in a population can be asymptotically described by a power law. We show that the Galton-Watson process corresponding to the dynamics of a growing population can be represented in Hilbert space, and its time evolution may be analyzed by renormalization group techniques, thus explaining the origin of the power law and establishing the connection between its exponent and the ratio between the population growth and the name production rates.  相似文献

We report on pattern formation phenomena in the filamentary dielectric barrier discharge between plane glass electrodes. It is for the first time that a three-dimensional (3D) self-organized glow pattern was both observed in an actual experiment and directly calculated in a full 3D discharge simulation in a quantitative manner. Specifically, we investigate the genesis of periodic patterns during the first breakdowns. Despite our simple drift-diffusion discharge model, the correspondence of experimental and numerical findings is surprisingly good.  相似文献

利用近共振激光驻波场操纵中性原子实现纳米级条纹沉积技术是一种新型的研制纳米结构长度标准传递的方法.分析了Cr原子在椭圆型激光驻波场作用下的沉积特性,分别对不同椭圆激光驻波场功率下Cr原子的沉积条纹及不同y平面上沉积条纹特性进行了模拟和分析.同时针对椭圆激光驻波场作用下Cr原子发散角对沉积条纹特性的影响进行了模拟计算,比较了不同发散角条件下沉积条纹的对比度和半高宽. 关键词: 原子光刻 椭圆激光驻波场 Cr原子  相似文献

Arnold Sommerfeld (1868-1951) founded one of the most influential schools of twentieth-century theoretical physics. His favored specialty was atomic theory, and a world-wide community of physicists was introduced to this field by his legendary textbook, Atomic Structure and Spectral Lines. The names of his students read like a Who's Who of the pioneers in modern physics Peter Debye, Peter Paul Ewald, Wolfgang Pauli, Werner Heisenberg, Hans A. Bethe - to name only the most prominent. In retrospect, the success of Sommerfeld's school of modern theoretical physics tends to overshadow its less glorious beginnings. A century ago, theoretical physics was not yet considered as a distinct discipline. In this article I emphasize more the haphazard beginnings than the later achievements of Sommerfeld's school, which mirrored the state of theoretical physics before it became an independent discipline.  相似文献

Electron spin resonance (ESR) dating is an absolute dating method suitable for the Quaternary which can be applied to a wide range of materials. It is based on determining the natural radiation dose to which a sample has been exposed during its burial period. This paper outlines the basic concepts, and reviews recent studies on the methods and models of ESR dating.

Scope of this paper. This review paper is one of two in this volume providing an overview of recent developments in the field of electron spin resonance (ESR) dating. The paper focuses on studies investigating the fundamental concepts and methods employed in ESR dating, while the companion paper by Rink (this issue) focuses on applications of the method. Previous review articles have been published by Ikeya (1978) and Ikeya (1985), Hennig and Grün (1983), Nambi (1985) and Grün (1989b). Subsequently, papers by Grün (1991), Schwarcz (1994) and Ikeya (1994a); Ikeya (1994b) and Ikeya (1994c) have reviewed specific aspects of the field. There are three books on ESR dating by Ikeya (1986), in Japanese), Grün (1989a)Grün (1989b), in German) and Ikeya (1993), in English) respectively. In view of the coverage of previous reviews of the field, this paper concentrates on research undertaken since 1990.

The first part introduces and outlines the basic ideas of ESR and its application to dating. This is followed by an overview of recent studies concerned with the basic concepts of the field, its methods and models, as independently of specific materials as possible.  相似文献

This paper presents a new pattern recognition system for Chinese spirit identification by using the polymer quartz piezoelectric crystal sensor based e-nose. The sensors are designed based on quartz crystal microbalance(QCM) principle,and they could capture different vibration frequency signal values for Chinese spirit identification. For each sensor in an8-channel sensor array, seven characteristic values of the original vibration frequency signal values, i.e., average value(A),root-mean-square value(RMS), shape factor value(S_f), crest factor value(C_f), impulse factor value(I_f), clearance factor value(CL_f), kurtosis factor value(K_v) are first extracted. Then the dimension of the characteristic values is reduced by the principle components analysis(PCA) method. Finally the back propagation(BP) neutral network algorithm is used to recognize Chinese spirits. The experimental results show that the recognition rate of six kinds of Chinese spirits is 93.33% and our proposed new pattern recognition system can identify Chinese spirits effectively.  相似文献

The oil industry is now increasingly concentrating their efforts and activities in connection with developing fields in deeper waters, ranging typically from 500 m to 3000 m worldwide. However, the modeling of a full-depth system has become difficult presently; no tank facility is sufficiently large to perform the testing of a complete FPS with compliant mooring in 1000 m to 3000 m depth, within reasonable limits of model scale. Until recently, the most feasible procedure to meet this challenge seems to be the so-called “hybrid model testing technique”. To implement this technique, the first and important step is to design the equivalent water depth truncated mooring system. In this work, the optimization design of the equivalent water depth truncated mooring system in hybrid model testing for deep sea platforms is investigated. During the research, the similarity of static characteristics between the truncated and full depth system is mainly considered. The optimization mathematical model for the equivalent water depth truncated system design is set up by using the similarity in numerical value of the static characteristics between the truncated system and the full depth one as the objective function. The dynamic characteristic difference between the truncated and full depth mooring system can be minished by selecting proper design rule. To calculate the static characteristics of the mooring system, the fourth order Runge-Kutta method is used to solve the static equilibrium equation of the single mooring line. After the static characteristic of the single mooring line is calculated, the static characteristic of the whole mooring system is calculated with Lagrange numerical interpolation method. The mooring line material database is established and the standard material name and the diameter of the mooring line are selected as the primary key. The improved simulated annealing algorithm for continual & discrete variables and the improved complex algorithm for discrete variables are employed to perform the optimization calculation. The C++ programming language is used to develop the computer program according to the object-oriented programming idea. To perform the optimization calculation with the two algorithms mentioned above respectively and the better result is selected as the final one. To examine the developed program, an example of equivalent water depth truncated mooring system optimum design calculation on a 100,000-t, turret mooring FPSO in water depth of 320 m are performed to obtain the conformation parameters of the truncated mooring system, in which the truncated water depth is 160 m. The model test under some typical environment conditions are performed for both the truncated and the full depth system with model scale factor λ=80. After comparing the corresponding results from the test of the truncated system with those from the full depth system test, it’s found that the truncated mooring system design in this work is successful.
