A scheme for instantaneous frequency measurement(IFM)using two parallel I/Q modulators based on optical power monitoring is proposed.The amplitude comparison function(ACF)can be constructed to establish the relationship between the frequency of radio frequency(RF)signal and the power ratio of two optical signals output by two I/Q modulators.The frequency of RF signal can be derived by measuring the optical power of the optical signals output by two I/Q modulators.The measurement range and measurement error can be adjusted by controlling the delay amount of the electrical delay line.The feasibility of the scheme is verified,and the corresponding measurement range and measurement error of the system under different delay amounts of the electrical delay line are given.Compared with previous IFM schemes,the structure of this scheme is simple.Polarization devices,a photodetector and an electrical power meter are not used,which reduces the impact of the environmental disturbance on the system and the cost of the system.In simulation,the measurement range can reach 0 GHz-24.5 GHz by adjusting the delay amount of the electrical delay lineτ=20 ps.The measurement error of the scheme is better at low frequency,and the measurement error of low frequency 0 GHz-9.6 GHz can reach-0.1 GHz to+0.05 GHz.  相似文献

A novel and simple method to achieve wavelength shift keying (WSK) modulation is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The proposed WSK transmitter consists of a pair of Mach-Zehnder modulators (MZMs) that are biased appropriately to achieve complementary operation. When a non-return-to-zero data stream is applied to the two MZMs, thanks to the complementary operation of the MZMs, the WSK-modulated signal can be obtained by combining the two intensity-modulated optical signals. A tunable optical delay line (ODL) is applied to achieve synchronization between the two optical signals. The ODL can also be used to compensate for the dispersion-induced walk-off effect between the two optical carriers. The application of the proposed WSK transmitter in a passive optical network is demonstrated, in which the downstream WSK signal is reused as optical carrier for upstream intensity-modulated data transmission. The proposed approach is experimentally realized; experimental results verify the feasibility of the approach.  相似文献

腔调谐过程中同时对HeNe激光器进行光回馈,设定回馈镜驱动信号的周期远小于腔调谐信号的周期,此时便获得腔调谐过程中谐振腔中两垂直偏振光的回馈信号. 回馈的形式分为仅垂直光回馈、仅平行光回馈以及两光同时回馈三种情况. 当两光同时回馈时,两模式间的模竞争较弱,两光回馈曲线有一定的相位差,该相位差小于180°,两光总体波动幅度变化趋势相反. 当仅单偏振光回馈时,两模式间的模竞争较强,两光回馈曲线始终反相,而且两光波动幅度变化趋势相同,此时可以将两光强度信号相减以实现成倍提高回馈信号幅度,从而提高系统灵敏度. 尤其仅垂直光回馈时,两光各自光强波动幅值都较大,并且在较大的增益曲线范围内保持光强波动幅值无明显变化,该特性可用于提高回馈系统的抗干扰能力,减少因激光功率漂移而引起的错误计数. 关键词: 自混合干涉 光回馈 模竞争 位移测量  相似文献

为了降低电光相位编码器功率消耗和解决内部M Z调制器一致性要求高的问题,利用2个偏置M Z调制器构成了用于电光模数转换的2 bits电光相位编码器。理论分析了偏置M Z调制器实现2 bits电光相位编码的方法、特点和性能。仿真结果验证了采用偏置M Z调制器构成的2 bits相位编码方法可行性,并实现了对1 GHz模拟电信号的采样速率12 GSa/s模数转换。分析和仿真结果表明,采用该方法对调制器一致性要求低,对输入信号功率要求低于0.32 W。分析结果表明,调制器直流漂移不影响最低位量化结果,引起最高位量化结果的判决模糊低于3.8%。  相似文献

A collinear optical heterodyne system with twin ultrasonic light modulators (ULM) is considered within the Raman-Nath regime. The zeroth order beam of light emerging from the first ULM enters the second ULM and splits into the diffraction spectrum with the frequencies shifted by integral multiples of the driving sound frequency. For the purpose of photomixing, the positive or negative first order beam in this spectrum can be superposed on the first order beam of light from the first ULM which passes through the second ULM without deflection, and comes to the same location as the other. Experimental verification is successfully carried out by producing a beat signal of light with a difference frequency between two sound frequencies. It is demonstrated analytically that a convolution or correlation function between two time varying signals can be obtained, according to whether the beat signal of light has the sum or difference frequency of the two driving sound frequencies. The sum or difference frequency can be generated as one of the sound waves proceeds in the same or reverse direction as the other.  相似文献

The paper experimentally demonstrated the optical frequency quadrupling microwave signal generation, a 4 GHz radio frequency (RF) signals up-conversion to 16 GHz in a radio over fiber (ROF) link, using twice optical carrier suppression modulation. The RF signal was mixed with 1.25 Gbps NRZ-OOK data firstly and then modulated by two cascaded single-electrode optical intensity modulators. The obtained 1.25 Gbps/16 GHz ROF signal was transmitted and characterized in the optical fiber link. At BER of 10?9, low power penalty of 1.0 and 1.4 dB were obtained over a fiber link with a transmission distance of 25 and 50 km.  相似文献

The optical carrier suppression in optical quadruple frequency modulation by cascaded external modulators is investigated theoretically and experimentally. Theoretical analysis demonstrates that the optical carrier suppression ratio is related with not only the initial phase difference of electrical signals applied on the two modulators, but also the optical phase shift between the two modulators. The maximum suppression ratio can be achieved when the total phase difference is equal to nπ+π/2 (n = 1, 2,…), which is verified by experiments. By properly controlling the total phase shift, 40-GHz millimeter-wave is generated by using a 10-GHz radio frequency (RF) source and the modulators.  相似文献

We propose and demonstrate a directed optical decoder that can perform the decoding function from a two-bit electrical signal to a four-bit optical signal based on two cascaded microring resonators. We use two electrical signals regarded as a two-bit electrical signal to modulate the two microring resonators through the thermo-optic effect and four optical signals regarded as a four-bit optical signal appear at the output ports, respectively. In this paper a “hybrid” system is introduced, which consists of an incoherent optical system and an electronic system, In the optical processor the temporal as well as the spatial frequencies of the input image are manipulated. A CTV camera transposes the light distribution at the output of the optical system into three electrical signals. These electrical signals are modulated and combined to one signal, which will be fed into a visual display, showing a fringe pattern, whose brightness is proportional to the magnitude of the desired (complex) image.  相似文献

Advanced optical modulation formats are a key technology to increase the capacity of optical communication networks. Mach-Zehnder modulators are typically used to generate various modulation formats. Here, we report the first experimental demonstration of quadrature phase-shift keying (QPSK) modulation using compact microring modulators. Generation of 20 Gb/s QPSK signals is demonstrated with 30 μm radius silicon ring modulators with drive voltages of ~6 V. These compact QPSK modulators may be used in miniature optical transponders for high-capacity optical data links.  相似文献

A novel method of a filterless optical millimeter-wave (MMW) signal generation with frequency octupling using four nested Mach–Zehnder modulators (MZMs) is proposed for Radio-over-fiber systems. By symmetrically biasing the MZMs and using two RF driving signals with 90 deg phase delay, a cost-effective, high-quality and filterless optical millimeter-wave at 80 GHz with an optical harmonic distortion suppression ratio exceeding 40 dB is obtained. The proposed system is insensitive to the MZM bias drift, which demonstrates a relatively higher stability. So it is a viable solution for the future ultra-high frequency MMW applications.  相似文献

基于两个级联偏振调制器,提出了一种高频谱纯度、稳定的六倍频微波信号产生方法。该方法通过适当调整偏振片的偏振方向、射频驱动信号电压和相位,实现无光滤波器条件下、任何波段六倍频微波信号的产生。利用Optisystem平台搭建的仿真系统,以S波段4 GHz信号为例,验证了该设计系统产生的六倍频信号质量,并分析了非理想射频驱动电压和相位对六倍频信号质量的影响,结果表明:该设计系统能产生最大光边带抑制比、射频无杂散抑制比分别为21.3,15.2 dB的六倍频微波信号;且非理想驱动电压和相位差的偏离应控制在理想值5%的范围之内。  相似文献

Large signal analysis of Mach-Zehnder electro-optic modulators excited by three tone signals is presented. The special case of two equal-amplitude sinusoids plus a difference-frequency injection is considered in detail. The results show that even under large signal conditions it is possible, at least in theory, to totally eliminate the third-order intermodulation when the amplitudes of the equal-amplitudes input sinusoids and the difference-frequency injection are equal. This would be a promising technique for achieving highly linear Mach-Zehnder electro-optic modulators.  相似文献

A millimeter-wave signal with sextuple-frequency multiplication of a microwave source is obtained with two cascaded optical modulators, which are driven by the same microwave source with phase deviation of pi/2 introduced by an electrical phase shifter. Without any optical filter, a wideband continuously tunable millimeter-wave signal is easily generated.  相似文献

The parameters of a slot-type electromagnetic system that can be used in ultrahigh-frequency wide-band optical modulators are studied. Analytical expressions for the bandwidth of the device are obtained, and this parameter in prototypes is estimated. Experiments on optical radiation modulation by microwave signals show that these electromagnetic systems are promising for volume optical modulators.  相似文献

We propose and demonstrate an integrated optical isolator in InP using two phase modulators in series. The phase modulators are driven with a single-frequency signal in quadrature. Theoretically there is no effect on the forward signal, and the carrier of the backward signal can be eliminated, the energy distributed to other frequencies. We achieve a carrier isolation of 11?dB and an excess insertion loss of 2.3?dB. Such an isolator can be monolithically integrated with a laser without extra materials or magnetic fields.  相似文献

We propose and experimentally demonstrate a photonic approach to the measurement of the time-difference-of-arrival (TDOA) and the angle-of-arrival (AOA) of a microwave signal. In the proposed system, the TDOA and the AOA are equivalently converted into a phase shift between two replicas of a microwave signal received at two cascaded modulators. The light wave from a CW laser is externally modulated by the microwave signal at the first modulator, which is biased to suppress the optical carrier, leading to the generation of two first-order sidebands, which are further modulated by the phase-delayed microwave signal at the second modulator. Two optical components at the carrier wavelength are generated. The total power at the carrier wavelength is a function of the phase shift due to the coherent interference between the two components. Thus, by measuring the optical power, the phase shift is estimated. The AOA is calculated from the measured phase shifts. In our experiment, the phase shift of a microwave signal at 18 GHz from -160° to 40° is measured with measurement errors of less than ±2.5°.  相似文献

This paper employs dual-output Mach–Zehnder Modulator (MZM) for optical access networks without optical filters. Light waves generated from multiple laser sources are multiplexed and fed into dual-output MZM. Biasing the dual-output MZM at null point generates central carriers in one output port and first-order sidebands in another output port. Reflective semiconductor optical amplifier modulates both the central carriers and sidebands with wired and wireless data, respectively. The modulated optical signals are combined by polarization beam splitter and transmitted through 25-km single-mode fiber. The performance of the proposed scheme is proved by clear eye-diagrams and great bit error rate (BER) curves. Moreover, the power penalty at the BER of 10-9 is less than 1 dB for both wired and wireless signals. Therefore, the proposed system simultaneously transmits wired and wireless signals.  相似文献
