We consider a panel data semiparametric partially linear regression model with an unknown parameter vector for the linear parametric component, an unknown nonparametric function for the nonlinear component, and a one-way error component structure which allows unequal error variances (referred to as heteroscedasticity). We develop procedures to detect heteroscedasticity and one-way error component structure, and propose a weighted semiparametric least squares estimator (WSLSE) of the parametric component in the presence of heteroscedasticity and/or one-way error component structure. This WSLSE is asymptotically more efficient than the usual semiparametric least squares estimator considered in the literature. The asymptotic properties of the WSLSE are derived. The nonparametric component of the model is estimated by the local polynomial method. Some simulations are conducted to demonstrate the finite sample performances of the proposed testing and estimation procedures. An example of application on a set of panel data of medical expenditures in Australia is also illustrated.  相似文献

The asymptotic distribution for the local linear estimator in nonparametric regression models is established under a general parametric error covariance with dependent and heterogeneously distributed regressors. A two-step estimation procedure that incorporates the parametric information in the error covariance matrix is proposed. Sufficient conditions for its asymptotic normality are given and its efficiency relative to the local linear estimator is established. We give examples of how our results are useful in some recently studied regression models. A Monte Carlo study confirms the asymptotic theory predictions and compares our estimator with some recently proposed alternative estimation procedures.  相似文献

Semiparametric linear transformation models have received much attention due to their high flexibility in modeling survival data. A useful estimating equation procedure was recently proposed by Chen et al. (2002) [21] for linear transformation models to jointly estimate parametric and nonparametric terms. They showed that this procedure can yield a consistent and robust estimator. However, the problem of variable selection for linear transformation models has been less studied, partially because a convenient loss function is not readily available under this context. In this paper, we propose a simple yet powerful approach to achieve both sparse and consistent estimation for linear transformation models. The main idea is to derive a profiled score from the estimating equation of Chen et al. [21], construct a loss function based on the profile scored and its variance, and then minimize the loss subject to some shrinkage penalty. Under regularity conditions, we have shown that the resulting estimator is consistent for both model estimation and variable selection. Furthermore, the estimated parametric terms are asymptotically normal and can achieve a higher efficiency than that yielded from the estimation equations. For computation, we suggest a one-step approximation algorithm which can take advantage of the LARS and build the entire solution path efficiently. Performance of the new procedure is illustrated through numerous simulations and real examples including one microarray data.  相似文献

Partially linear regression models with fixed effects are useful tools for making econometric analyses and normalizing microarray data. Baltagi and Li (2002) [7] proposed a computation friendly difference-based series estimation (DSE) for them. We show that the DSE is not asymptotically efficient in most cases and further propose a weighted difference-based series estimation (WDSE). The weights in it do not involve any unknown parameters. The asymptotic properties of the resulting estimators are established for both balanced and unbalanced cases, and it is shown that they achieve a semiparametric efficient boundary. Additionally, we propose a variable selection procedure for identifying significant covariates in the parametric part of the semiparametric fixed-effects regression model. The method is based on a combination of the nonconcave penalization (Fan and Li, 2001 [13]) and weighted difference-based series estimation techniques. The resulting estimators have the oracle property; that is, they can correctly identify the true model as if the true model (the subset of variables with nonvanishing coefficients) were known in advance. Simulation studies are conducted and an application is given to demonstrate the finite sample performance of the proposed procedures.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the estimating problem of the partially linear regression models where the linear covariates are measured with additive errors. A difference based estimation is proposed to estimate the parametric component. We show that the resulting estimator is asymptotically unbiased and achieves the semiparametric efficiency bound if the order of the difference tends to infinity. The asymptotic normality of the resulting estimator is established as well. Compared with the corrected profile least squares estimation, the proposed procedure avoids the bandwidth selection. In addition, the difference based estimation of the error variance is also considered. For the nonparametric component, the local polynomial technique is implemented. The finite sample properties of the developed methodology is investigated through simulation studies. An example of application is also illustrated.  相似文献

Model checking in errors-in-variables regression   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This paper discusses a class of minimum distance tests for fitting a parametric regression model to a class of regression functions in the errors-in-variables model. These tests are based on certain minimized distances between a nonparametric regression function estimator and a deconvolution kernel estimator of the conditional expectation of the parametric model being fitted. The paper establishes the asymptotic normality of the proposed test statistics under the null hypothesis and that of the corresponding minimum distance estimators. We also prove the consistency of the proposed tests against a fixed alternative and obtain the asymptotic distributions for general local alternatives. Simulation studies show that the testing procedures are quite satisfactory in the preservation of the finite sample level and in terms of a power comparison.  相似文献

We consider the problem of estimation in semiparametric varying coefficient models where the covariate modifying the varying coefficients is functional and is modeled nonparametrically. We develop a kernel-based estimator of the nonparametric component and a profiling estimator of the parametric component of the model and derive their asymptotic properties. Specifically, we show the consistency of the nonparametric functional estimates and derive the asymptotic expansion of the estimates of the parametric component. We illustrate the performance of our methodology using a simulation study and a real data application.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop a fully nonparametric approach for the estimation of the cumulative incidence function with Missing At Random right-censored competing risks data. We obtain results on the pointwise asymptotic normality as well as the uniform convergence rate of the proposed nonparametric estimator. A simulation study that serves two purposes is provided. First, it illustrates in detail how to implement our proposed nonparametric estimator. Second, it facilitates a comparison of the nonparametric estimator to a parametric counterpart based on the estimator of Lu and Liang (2008). The simulation results are generally very encouraging.

This paper concerns with the estimation of a fixed effects panel data partially linear regression model with the idiosyncratic errors being an autoregressive process. For fixed effects short time series panel data, the commonly used autoregressive error structure fitting method will not result in a consistent estimator of the autoregressive coefficients. Here we propose an alternative estimation and show that the resulting estimator of the autoregressive coefficients is consistent and this method is workable for any order autoregressive error structure. Moreover, combining the B-spline approximation, profile least squares dummy variable (PLSDV) technique and consistently estimated the autoregressive error structure, we develop a weighted PLSDV estimator for the parametric component and a weighted B-spline series (BS) estimator for the nonparametric component. The weighted PLSDV estimator is shown to be asymptotically normal and more asymptotically efficient than the one which ignores the error autoregressive structure. In addition, this paper derives the asymptotic bias of the weighted BS estimator and establish its asymptotic normality as well. Simulation studies and an example of application are conducted to illustrate the finite sample performance of the proposed procedures.

This paper proposes a technique [termed censored average derivative estimation (CADE)] for studying estimation of the unknown regression function in nonparametric censored regression models with randomly censored samples. The CADE procedure involves three stages: firstly-transform the censored data into synthetic data or pseudo-responses using the inverse probability censoring weighted (IPCW) technique, secondly estimate the average derivatives of the regression function, and finally approximate the unknown regression function by an estimator of univariate regression using techniques for one-dimensional nonparametric censored regression. The CADE provides an easily implemented methodology for modelling the association between the response and a set of predictor variables when data are randomly censored. It also provides a technique for “dimension reduction” in nonparametric censored regression models. The average derivative estimator is shown to be root-n consistent and asymptotically normal. The estimator of the unknown regression function is a local linear kernel regression estimator and is shown to converge at the optimal one-dimensional nonparametric rate. Monte Carlo experiments show that the proposed estimators work quite well.  相似文献

This article is concerned with the estimating problem of semiparametric varyingcoefficient partially linear regression models. By combining the local polynomial and least squares procedures Fan and Huang (2005) proposed a profile least squares estimator for the parametric component and established its asymptotic normality. We further show that the profile least squares estimator can achieve the law of iterated logarithm. Moreover, we study the estimators of the functions characterizing the non-linear part as well as the error variance. The strong convergence rate and the law of iterated logarithm are derived for them, respectively.  相似文献

Consider a varying-coefficient single-index model which consists of two parts: the linear part with varying coefficients and the nonlinear part with a single-index structure, and are hence termed as varying-coefficient single-index models. This model includes many important regression models such as single-index models, partially linear single-index models, varying-coefficient model and varying-coefficient partially linear models as special examples. In this paper, we mainly study estimating problems of the varying-coefficient vector, the nonparametric link function and the unknown parametric vector describing the single-index in the model. A stepwise approach is developed to obtain asymptotic normality estimators of the varying-coefficient vector and the parametric vector, and estimators of the nonparametric link function with a convergence rate. The consistent estimator of the structural error variance is also obtained. In addition, asymptotic pointwise confidence intervals and confidence regions are constructed for the varying coefficients and the parametric vector. The bandwidth selection problem is also considered. A simulation study is conducted to evaluate the proposed methods, and real data analysis is also used to illustrate our methods.  相似文献

Copula as an effective way of modeling dependence has become more or less a standard tool in risk management, and a wide range of applications of copula models appear in the literature of economics, econometrics, insurance, finance, etc. How to estimate and test a copula plays an important role in practice, and both parametric and nonparametric methods have been studied in the literature. In this paper, we focus on interval estimation and propose an empirical likelihood based confidence interval for a copula. A simulation study and a real data analysis are conducted to compare the finite sample behavior of the proposed empirical likelihood method with the bootstrap method based on either the empirical copula estimator or the kernel smoothing copula estimator.  相似文献

Functional semiparametric partially linear model with autoregressive errors   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this paper, we introduce a functional semiparametric model, where a real-valued random variable is explained by the sum of a unknown linear combination of the components of a multivariate random variable and an unknown transformation of a functional random variable. The errors can be autocorrelated. We focus here on the parametric estimation of the coefficients in the linear combination. First, we use a nonparametric kernel method to remove the effect of the functional explanatory variable. Then, we use generalized least squares approach to obtain an estimator of these coefficients. Under some technical assumptions, we prove consistency and asymptotic normality of our estimator. Finally, we present Monte Carlo simulations that illustrate these characteristics.  相似文献

We consider the second order asymptotic properties of an efficient frequency domain regression coefficient estimator proposed by Hannan [Regression for time series, Proc. Sympos. Time Series Analysis (Brown Univ., 1962), Wiley, New York, 1963, pp. 17-37]. This estimator is a semiparametric estimator based on nonparametric spectral estimators. We derive the second order Edgeworth expansion of the distribution of . Then it is shown that the second order asymptotic properties are independent of the bandwidth choice for residual spectral estimator, which implies that has the same rate of convergence as in regular parametric estimation. This is a sharp contrast with the general semiparametric estimation theory. We also examine the second order Gaussian efficiency of . Numerical studies are given to confirm the theoretical results.  相似文献

We study the distributions of the LASSO, SCAD, and thresholding estimators, in finite samples and in the large-sample limit. The asymptotic distributions are derived for both the case where the estimators are tuned to perform consistent model selection and for the case where the estimators are tuned to perform conservative model selection. Our findings complement those of Knight and Fu [K. Knight, W. Fu, Asymptotics for lasso-type estimators, Annals of Statistics 28 (2000) 1356–1378] and Fan and Li [J. Fan, R. Li, Variable selection via non-concave penalized likelihood and its oracle properties, Journal of the American Statistical Association 96 (2001) 1348–1360]. We show that the distributions are typically highly non-normal regardless of how the estimator is tuned, and that this property persists in large samples. The uniform convergence rate of these estimators is also obtained, and is shown to be slower than n−1/2 in case the estimator is tuned to perform consistent model selection. An impossibility result regarding estimation of the estimators’ distribution function is also provided.  相似文献
