Although machine scheduling problems with learning and deteriorating effects consideration have received increasing attention in the recent years, most studies have seldom considered the two phenomena simultaneously. However, learning and deteriorating effects might co-exist in many realistic scheduling situations. Thus, in this article, a model which takes the effects of time-dependent learning and deterioration simultaneously is proposed and applied into some scheduling problems. Under the proposed model, the processing time of a job is determined by a function of its corresponding starting time and positional sequence in each machine. We show that some single machine and flowshop scheduling problems are polynomially solvable with the certain performance measures such as makespan, total completion time, and weighted completion time.  相似文献

In this paper we consider single-machine group scheduling problems with effects of learning and deterioration at the same time. By effects of learning and deterioration, we mean that the group setup times are general linear functions of their starting times and the jobs in the same group have general position-dependent and time-dependent learning effects. The objective of scheduling problems is to minimize the makespan and the sum of completion times, respectively. We show that the problems remain solvable in polynomial time under the proposed model.  相似文献

In this paper parallel identical machines scheduling problems with deteriorating jobs and learning effects are considered. In this model, job processing times are defined by functions of their starting times and positions in the sequence. We concentrate on two goals separately, namely, minimizing a cost function containing total completion time and total absolute differences in completion times; minimizing a cost function containing total waiting time and total absolute differences in waiting times. We show that the problems remain polynomially solvable under the proposed model.  相似文献

In a recent paper, Lee and Wu [W.-C. Lee, C.-C. Wu, A note on single-machine group scheduling problems with position-based learning effect, Appl. Math. Model. 33 (2009) 2159–2163] proposed a new group scheduling learning model where the learning effect not only depends on the job position, but also depends on the group position. They investigate the makespan and the total completion time minimization problems on a single-machine. As for the total completion time minimization problem, they assumed that the numbers of jobs in each group are the same and the group normal setup and the job normal processing times are agreeable. Under the assumption conditions, they showed that the total completion time minimization problem can be optimally solved in polynomial time solution. However, the assumption conditions for the total completion time minimization problem do not reflect actual practice in many manufacturing processes. Hence, in this note, we propose other agreeable conditions and show that the total completion time minimization problem remains polynomially solvable under the agreeable conditions.  相似文献

In many realistic scheduling settings a job processed later consumes more time than when it is processed earlier – this phenomenon is known as scheduling with deteriorating jobs. In the literature on deteriorating job scheduling problems, majority of the research assumed that the actual job processing time of a job is a function of its starting time. In this paper we consider a new deterioration model where the actual job processing time of a job is a function of the processing times of the jobs already processed. We show that the single-machine scheduling problems to minimize the makespan and total completion time remain polynomially solvable under the proposed model. In addition, we prove that the problems to minimize the total weighted completion time, maximum lateness, and maximum tardiness are polynomially solvable under certain agreeable conditions.  相似文献

In this paper we introduce a new model of joint start-time dependent learning and position dependent aging effects into single-machine scheduling problems. The machine may need maintenance to improve its production efficiency. The objectives are to find jointly the optimal maintenance position and the optimal sequence such that the makespan, the total completion time, and the total absolute deviation of completion times (TADC) are minimized. We also aim to determine jointly the optimal maintenance position, the optimal due-window size and location, and the optimal sequence to minimize the sum of earliness, tardiness and due-window related costs function. We show that all the studied problems can be optimally solved by polynomial time algorithms.  相似文献

Scheduling with learning effects has received growing attention nowadays. A well-known learning model is called ‘position-based learning’ in which the actual processing time of a job is a non-increasing function of its position to be processed. However, the actual processing time of a given job drops to zero precipitously as the number of jobs increases. Motivated by this observation, we propose two truncated learning models in single-machine scheduling problems and two-machine flowshop scheduling problems with ordered job processing times, respectively, where the actual processing time of a job is a function of its position and a control parameter. Under the proposed learning models, we show that some scheduling problems can be solved in polynomial time. In addition, we further analyse the worst-case error bounds for the problems to minimize the total weighted completion time, discounted total weighted completion time and maximum lateness.  相似文献

In this paper we consider several single-machine scheduling problems with general learning effects. By general learning effects, we mean that the processing time of a job depends not only on its scheduled position, but also on the total normal processing time of the jobs already processed. We show that the scheduling problems of minimization of the makespan, the total completion time and the sum of the θ  th (θ?0θ?0) power of job completion times can be solved in polynomial time under the proposed models. We also prove that some special cases of the total weighted completion time minimization problem and the maximum lateness minimization problem can be solved in polynomial time.  相似文献

In studies on scheduling problems, generally setup times and removal times of jobs have been neglected or by including those into processing times. However, in some production systems, setup times and removal times are very important such that they should be considered independent from processing times. Since, in general jobs are done according to automatic machine processes in production systems processing times do not differ according to process sequence. But, since human factor becomes influential when setup times and removal times are taken into consideration, setup times will be decreasing by repeating setup processes frequently. This fact is defined with learning effect in scheduling literature. In this study, a bicriteria m-identical parallel machines scheduling problem with a learning effect of setup times and removal times is considered. The objective function of the problem is minimization of the weighted sum of total completion time and total tardiness. A mathematical programming model is developed for the problem which belongs to NP-hard class. Results of computational tests show that the proposed model is effective in solving problems with up to 15 jobs and five machines. We also proposed three heuristic approaches for solving large jobs problems. According to the best of our knowledge, no work exists on the minimization of the weighted sum of total completion time and total tardiness with a learning effect of setup times and removal times.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the flow shop scheduling problems with the effects of learning and deterioration. In this model the processing times of a job is defined as a function of its starting time and position in a sequence. The scheduling objective functions are makespan and total completion time. We prove that even with the introduction of learning effect and deteriorating jobs to job processing times, some special flow shop scheduling problems remain polynomially solvable.  相似文献

In many situations, the skills of workers continuously improve when repeating the same or similar tasks. This phenomenon is known as the “learning effect” in the literature. In most studies, the learning phenomenon is implemented by assuming the actual job processing time is a function of its scheduled position [D. Biskup, Single-machine scheduling with learning considerations, Eur. J. Oper. Res. 115 (1999) 173–178]. Recently, a new model is proposed where the actual job processing time depends on the sum of the processing times of jobs already processed [C. Koulamas, G.J. Kyparisis, Single-machine and two-machine flowshop scheduling with general learning functions, Eur. J. Oper. Res. 178 (2007) 402–407]. In this paper, we extend their models in which the actual job processing time not only depends on its scheduled position, but also depends on the sum of the processing times of jobs already processed. We then show that the single-machine makespan and the total completion time problems remain polynomially solvable under the proposed model. In addition, we show that the total weighted completion time has a polynomial optimal solution under certain agreeable solutions.  相似文献

In many situations, a worker’s ability improves as a result of repeating the same or similar tasks; this phenomenon is known as the learning effect. In this paper the learning effect is considered in a two-machine flowshop. The objective is to find a sequence that minimizes a weighted sum of total completion time and makespan. Total completion time and makespan are widely used performance measures in scheduling literature. To solve this scheduling problem, an integer programming model with n2 + 6n variables and 7n constraints where n is the number of jobs is formulated. Because of the lengthy computing time and high computing complexity of the integer programming model, the problem with up to 30 jobs can be solved. A heuristic algorithm and a tabu search based heuristic algorithm are presented to solve large size problems. Experimental results show that the proposed heuristic methods can solve this problem with up to 300 jobs rapidly. According to the best of our knowledge, no work exists on the bicriteria flowshop with a learning effect.  相似文献

This paper investigates scheduling problems with simultaneous considerations of deterioration effects and deteriorating multi-maintenance activities on unrelated parallel machines. We examine two models of scheduling with the deterioration effect, namely the job-dependent and position-dependent deterioration model and the time-dependent deterioration model. We assume that each machine may be subject to several maintenance activities over the scheduling horizon, and the duration of maintenance on a machine depends on its running time. Moreover, due to the restriction of the budget of maintenance, the upper bound of the total maintenance frequencies on all the machines is assumed to be known in advance. The objective is to find jointly the optimal maintenance frequencies, the optimal maintenance positions, and the optimal job sequences such that the total completion time is minimized. If the number of machines is fixed, we introduce polynomial time solutions for all the versions of the problem under study.  相似文献

This paper studies the single machine scheduling problems with learning effect and deteriorating jobs simultaneously. In this model, the processing times of jobs are defined as functions of their starting times and positions in a sequence. It is shown that even with the introduction of learning effect and deteriorating jobs to job processing times, the makespan, the total completion time and the sum of the kkth power of completion times minimization problems remain polynomially solvable, respectively. But for the following objective functions: the total weighted completion time and the maximum lateness, this paper proves that the shortest weighted processing time first (WSPT) rule and the earliest due-date first (EDD) rule can construct the optimal sequence under some special cases, respectively.  相似文献

A real industrial production phenomenon, referred to as learning effects, has drawn increasing attention. However, most research on this issue considers only single machine problems. Motivated by this limitation, this paper considers flow shop scheduling problems with a general position-dependent learning effects. By the general position-dependent learning effects, we mean that the actual processing time of a job is defined by a general non-increasing function of its scheduled position. The objective is to minimize one of the five regular performance criteria, namely, the total completion time, the makespan, the total weighted completion time, the total weighted discounted completion time, and the sum of the quadratic job completion times. We present heuristic algorithms by using the optimal permutations for the corresponding single machine scheduling problems. We also analyze the worst-case bound of our heuristic algorithms.  相似文献

The purpose of this study is to explore the single-machine scheduling with the effects of exponential learning and general deterioration. By the effects of exponential learning and general deterioration, we meant that job processing time is decided by the functions of their starting time and positions in the sequence. Results showed that with the introduction of learning effect and deteriorating jobs to job processing time, single-machine makespan, and sum of completion time (square) minimization problems remained polynomially solvable, respectively. But for the following objective functions: the weighted sum of completion time and the maximum lateness, this paper proved that the weighted smallest basic processing time first (WSPT) rule and the earliest due date first (EDD) rule constructed the optimal sequence under some special cases, respectively.
