Summary. Two block monotone iterative schemes for a nonlinear algebraic system, which is a finite difference approximation of a nonlinear elliptic boundary-value problem, are presented and are shown to converge monotonically either from above or from below to a solution of the system. This monotone convergence result yields a computational algorithm for numerical solutions as well as an existence-comparison theorem of the system, including a sufficient condition for the uniqueness of the solution. An advantage of the block iterative schemes is that the Thomas algorithm can be used to compute numerical solutions of the sequence of iterations in the same fashion as for one-dimensional problems. The block iterative schemes are compared with the point monotone iterative schemes of Picard, Jacobi and Gauss-Seidel, and various theoretical comparison results among these monotone iterative schemes are given. These comparison results demonstrate that the sequence of iterations from the block iterative schemes converges faster than the corresponding sequence given by the point iterative schemes. Application of the iterative schemes is given to a logistic model problem in ecology and numerical ressults for a test problem with known analytical solution are given. An expression for the coefficients of a linear iterative equation in terms of the parameters of the source equation is given both for equations in standard form and for equations in reduced normal form. The operator that generates an iterative equation of a general order in reduced normal form is also obtained and some other properties of iterative equations are established. An expression for the parameters of the source equation of the transformed equation under equivalence transformations is obtained, and this gives rise to the derivation of important symmetry properties for iterative equations. The transformation mapping a given iterative equation to the canonical form is obtained in terms of the simplest determining equation, and several examples of application are discussed.  相似文献

The aim of the present paper is to introduce and investigate new ninth and seventh order convergent Newton-type iterative methods for solving nonlinear equations. The ninth order convergent Newton-type iterative method is made derivative free to obtain seventh-order convergent Newton-type iterative method. These new with and without derivative methods have efficiency indices 1.5518 and 1.6266, respectively. The error equations are used to establish the order of convergence of these proposed iterative methods. Finally, various numerical comparisons are implemented by MATLAB to demonstrate the performance of the developed methods.  相似文献

Conjugate-gradient acceleration provides a powerful tool for speeding up the convergence of a symmetrizable basic iterative method for solving a large system of linear algebraic equations with a sparse matrix. The object of this paper is to describe three generalizations of conjugate-gradient acceleration which are designed to speed up the convergence of basic iterative methods which are not necessarily symmetrizable. This paper concerns with the statistical methods for solving general linear systems. After a brief review of Bayesian perspective for inverse problems,a new and efficient iterative method for general linear systems from a Bayesian perspective is proposed.The convergence of this iterative method is proved,and the corresponding error analysis is studied.Finally, numerical experiments are given to support the efficiency of this iterative method,and some conclusions are obtained.  相似文献

There is increasing motivation for solving time-dependent differential equations with iterative splitting schemes. While Magnus expansion has been intensively studied and widely applied for solving explicitly time-dependent problems, the combination with iterative splitting schemes can open up new areas. The main problems with the Magnus expansion are the exponential character and the difficulty of deriving practical higher order algorithms. An alternative method is based on iterative splitting methods that take into account a temporally inhomogeneous equation. In this work, we show that the ideas derived from the iterative splitting methods can be used to solve time-dependent problems. Examples are discussed.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a new one-step iterative method for solving nonlinear equations, which inherits the advantages of both Newton’s and Steffensen’s methods. Moreover, two two-step methods of second-order are proposed by combining it with the regula falsi method. These new two-step methods present attractive features such as being independent of the initial values in the iterative interval, or being adaptive for the iterative formulas. The convergence of the iterative sequences is deduced. Finally, numerical experiments verify their merits.  相似文献

This paper deals with discrete monotone iterative algorithms for solving a nonlinear singularly perturbed convection–diffusion problem. A block monotone domain decomposition algorithm based on a Schwarz alternating method and on block iterative scheme is constructed. This monotone algorithm solves only linear discrete systems at each iterative step of the iterative process and converges monotonically to the exact solution of the nonlinear problem. The rate of convergence of the block monotone domain decomposition algorithm is estimated. Numerical experiments are presented.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the iterative method for estimating the optimum overrelaxation parameter. The improved power method (IP method) with the greatest rate of convergence is derived and compared with the Chebyshev polynomial iterative method (CP method) and the other iterative methods. 二级迭代法亦称内外迭代法. 多级迭代法由多个二级迭代嵌套而成.这些方法特别适合于并行计算,同时可以理解为古典迭代法的延伸或共轭梯度法的预处理子.本文讨论了对称正定Toeplitz线性方程组多级迭代法. 首先,基于Toeplitz矩阵的结构, 我们给出了多级块Jacobi分裂,然后证明了每一级分裂均为P-正则分裂, 并证明了当每一级内迭代次数均为偶数时,迭代法的收敛性. 最后通过数值实例验证了此方法的有效性.  相似文献

Some iterative methods are considered for the numerical solution of convection diffusion problems. The first class of iterative methods is Chebyshev accelerated iterations. The issues of parameter selection and convergence rates are considered. Secondly, we consider convection—diffusion type iterations where the iterations are of Peaceman-Rachford type. Here, a conjecture is given concerning a related problem in functional analysis. Finally, we consider flow-directed iterative schemes. We describe some schemes of this class for an upwind difference method, and also for a nonlinear hyperbolic equation. We emphasize work that remains to be done on these methods.  相似文献
