The derivation of exact solutions for a partial differential equation modelling arterial deformation in large arteries is considered. Amongst other results, we show that, for any values of the parameters appearing in the equation, solutions in terms of the first Painlevé transcendent can be obtained. This is in spite of the non-integrability of the equation. We also establish a connection, via an approximation of the equation under study by the Korteweg-de Vries equation, with the second Painlevé equation. Our results thus serve to further demonstrate the wide applicability and importance of the Painlevé equations.  相似文献

Predicting the horizontal groundwater flow in unsaturated porous media is a challenge in many areas of science and engineering. The governing equation associated with this phenomenon is a nonlinear partial differential equation known as the Richards equation. However, the numerical results obtained using this equation can differ substantially from the experimental results. In order to overcome this difficulty, a new version of the Richards equation was proposed recently that considers a time derivative of fractional order. In this study, we present a numerical method for solving this fractional Richards equation. Our method comprises an adaptive time marching scheme that uses Picard iterations to solve the corresponding nonlinear equations. A computational code was implemented for the proposed method using the Scilab programming language. We performed numerical simulations of the anomalous diffusion of water in a white siliceous brick and showed that the numerical results were consistent with the available experimental data.  相似文献

The nonlinear partial differential equation in the title is typified mathematically as a viscous Hamilton–Jacobi equation. It arises in the study of the growth of surfaces, and in that context is known as the generalized deterministic KPZ equation. Considering the Cauchy problem with initial data that are merely supposed to be bounded and continuous, results on the temporal decay and large-time behaviour of solutions are presented. Many of the oscillation results for linear impulsive equations were justified by the following scheme. First, the equivalence of the oscillation of the impulsive equation and some specially constructed nonimpulsive equation was established; further, on the base of well-known results for the nonimpulsive case, the oscillation of the impulsive equation was analyzed. In the present paper, we prove the “oscillation equivalence” result for a linear impulsive equation with a distributed delay and discuss the possibility to expand this approach to the other properties of impulsive equations, for example, stability and asymptotic behavior. In addition, a linear impulsive equation of the second order is considered.  相似文献
